After doing quite a bit of research, we are leaning towards doing the Rays, Reef, and Rum Point tour offered by Native Way Watersports. They get rave reviews here on the DISBoards and on Cruise Critic. This is a 5-hour tour from 9-2:15. You go to Stingray City, then snorkel the barrier reef, and finish off with lunch and playtime at Rum Point. They pick you up at the tender dock and guarantee that they will have you back to the dock before the last tender to the ship.

The cost is $62.50 per adult and $50 for children under 10. If we get a group of 10 or more, the cost is reduced $5 per person. They don't actually charge your credit card until the day of the tour and if the ship doesn't go to GC due to weather, etc, they won't charge you for the tour.

Is anyone else interested in doing this? I'd be happy to coordinate this if we can get a group of 10+ together. Click here for further details on the tour.

We have done this tour and I highly recommend it - AWESOME experience. We just did the city and stingray last time and that was not as impressive. Native Way is a great group of people. You will all have an awesome time.

Sounds good, but my DD10, is a real beginner snorkeler, though we are gonna be working hard this summer to get her up to speed. What do you think?
TY

My DD's have only snorkeled in the bathtub :rotfl2:

According to the reviews that I read, they have life vests available to help stabilize you while you snorkel. Plus, the crew is very helpful with the kids.

Finally booked the Dolphin Encounter - nothing like waiting til the last minute to get that discount!! Had no problems - we are also booked for the 1:00 p.m. slot. Can't wait to see all the Double Dippers there!!

Sorry I haven't been on here much lately - started our soccer season (yes, I play soccer!) and I have discovered the Twilight books and now I'm getting absolutely nothing done....

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Cheers,
Lisa

GOOD Morning!

My husband went to Stingray City and Snorkle with Native Way - He loved it and highly recommends them! It was also less expensive than the Disney excursion.

I think this year, he's going to do the zip line thing in Cozumel instead. He really doesn't like to leave me to do things on his own, even though I wish he would do a little bit more.

:rotfl:Good idea, we have a whirlpool tub and that can simulate waves. My DD is so thrilled with the idea:scared:

Your DDs are much older but just FYI, my DD(6) has also snorkeled in the bath tub. When we went to Hawaii in April, we took her snorkeling - she did great - no problems with the equipment, etc. - until the moment she saw a fish close up - she FREAKED out and had to be "rushed" back to shore.

I thought mousemom was Joking, I never thought about using the tub. Thanks.

That must have been something when she saw the fish.
I must admit, they scare me at times too!!

:lmao: My DDs have been snorkeling in the bathtub for years. Granted, at their size they can't do much more than stick their faces in the water and slosh around a bit, but I figured it at least makes them comfortable with having their faces in the water and breathing through a snorkel.

Both DH & I are scuba divers. My favorite scary fish story is when I came up over the top of a rock wall and came face-to-face with a barracuda. Who knew that screams could travel so far underwater? :rotfl2: I have a huge, heavy dive light that I use in the murky Pacific NW waters, and I readied it to whack the barracuda should he get frisky with me. Much to my relief, he was totally uninterested and swam right by me.

Wow, good for you except the barracuda:eek:.

We were gonna do scuba lessons before the double dip, but :sad1:,we got hit with unexpected bills.

It must be so different in the Pacific NW ocean, compared to us northeast coasters.(I Don't think thats a word)

We've only travelled to the San Diego area and loved swimming and boogie boarding there.

we are staying at the Raddison the night before the cruise. but would like to stay in Down Town Disney that Saturday we get off the ship.
anyone know of any good places to stay in Down Town?

Seriously...what's up with that? Page 2 is shamefull... Does anyone know when SWA is opening up November?:surfweb:

June 23rd, a date that will live in infamy. :lmao: Seriously, though, I do have it marked on my calendar.

Hey Guys,
Be sure to check your credit card statements. Booked my encounter on Sunday and they charged my card twice on Monday. They are working on fixing the situation.

Have a great day!!

I checked mine and one charge, thankfully. Weird though, they charged me an ISA fee? of $ 1.94 in addition to the admission and it was not on the reciept.

Not a lot of money, but I don't care for being charged without notice.

Then again, it was prob in the fine print and my eyes are just not the same anymore:upsidedow

Heads up cruisers. Dolphin Discovery is having a HUGE sale. The Swim Adventure is $49.90 (regular $99) and the Royal Swim is $74.90 (regular $149) per person. It was such a good deal that I cancelled our original Royal Swim reservations and made new ones with the lower price.

Be aware of the following:

  • I incurred a 10% penalty to cancel my old reservation. Even with this penalty, I saved $217 over the original price. Warning - they charged my credit card immediately for the new reservation. The credit for my old reservation will take about 3 weeks to process. I'm not thrilled with that, but will accept it because the savings are so good.
  • The sale reservation is NON-CANCELLABLE and NON-REFUNDABLE for ANY reason. Including weather, ship not making port, etc.

They have only made a certain number of these reservations available. The last I looked there were about 980 of the adventure swim and 1106 of the Royal Swim left. BTW, I did NOT mention that I am with Disney (and they did not ask). From what I have seen on other threads, there is some conflict about Disney cruise guests booking directly with them because they have a contract with Disney.
