10-Oct-2009 - Eastern Magic St. Croix

I never tried the chocolate chip cookie dough soft serve on Castaway Cay, now I must try it!! Love those Mickey Bars!!

Actually the only other time my DH and I were at Castaway Cay I spent most of the time relaxing in a hammock as it was a work vacation. This time no work!!!:cool1: I am so happy I don't have to combine work with vacation this time around!! I can really enjoy myself at WDW and on the Cruise. My DH and Best Friends will be happy that I won't have to go back to the room and work this time around!!!:grouphug:

Did you see your pic on my ptr? :rolleyes1 Had to do it....just couldn't help myself:cutie:
Why yes I did; I just checked them out. Love them!! They turned out really well!!!

Let's see, I have the fabric and ribbon for ours, but I am afraid nothing is done on them yet. I need to get cracking and complete it otherwise we will miss out on the fun. :fish:

i would say the song had a bit to do with the name. when we decided to book the cruise the song for some reason popped in my head and has been stuck there since!

I've never heard the song before but the video was funny. I even posted it on my Facebook!

Looks like there will be a bunch of us at the rum factory! That's my #1 choice of excursion for St Thomas & St. Croix. I think DH & I may try to get a morning of Scuba in and then head to the rum factory. Any one else thinking of any scuba at either stop? We may also scuba at St. Thomas and just do the island at St. Croix (more time for rum, but then may be hurting for scuba teh next day).

We fly in early Sat AM (I think 6am land from Los Angeles) and since I want to stop for water & alcohol (definitely rum & probably vodka & still not sure if we will by the wine package or not; if not probably will get a couple bottles of vino and just pay corkage- maybe?) we will probably rent a car one way. Anyone else doing a one way car rental from MCO to port? Prices? Will a shuttle that lets us stop be cheaper? We have the same transport problem going home; flight doesn't leave until 6pm so we were thinking of anotehr 1 way car rental & driving to Cape Cannaveral - anyone been there before?

Hoping for lots of Disney gift cards as my bday is this week!!!

I'm doing the same debating as you Kelly. I found out that there is a liquor store 3 miles away from MCO, as well as stores to buy water. We fly in at 10 pm on the friday night and are using the DCL transport to the port. I'm hoping to send DH out in a cab after we arrive or in the morning to get our alcohol and water. Our flight home is at 6 pm on the saturday and I am trying to figure out transport to Magic Kingdom, as we already paid for the DCP transfers back to MCO. I'm going to call the TA this week to see if they can help me.

I tried scuba diving in Mexico and determined it's not for me!

Does anyone know if there are specific times for tours at the Rum Factory? If we am going on my own do I need to make reservations or can we just show up? I looked online and it the times I saw were confusing. It looks like there are tour times but it also had some other times listed. Anyone know how long the tour takes? We would like to see more of the island as well.

Thanks,

Meredith

2 years ago, we used a limo service to take us from MCO to a hotel at the port. It cost about $200 one way and allowed us a 30 minute grocery/liquor store stop. I think you can get a car rental for cheaper than that. Look at MouseSavers.com for rental car codes. I'm using Budget for our car rental but we need it 2 day before the cruise.

It's hard to get a lot of information about St Croix since the ship hasn't been there very much. Trip Advisor has some reviews about the rum distillery in St. Croix. It looks like there is a $4 or $5 fee to tour but I'm reading the "samples" are full sized drinks.

well if thats the case then i look forward to a few "samples" myself..rum has always been a favorite of mine :P

33 days!!!!!!

on a non-alcoholic note...

is anyone planning on doing the stingray excursion at castaway? we are trying to figure out the best time to do it

I haven't booked the stingray excursion yet, but my DH reminded me today to do so, as he already plans to watch DD3 (DD1 and DD2 want to do it). I hadn't booked yet because I'm not sure how I will explain to DD2 that she can't do it, as she's 4. If I do it, I'll probably try to book for the 10 to 11 am timeslot.

Does anyone know the brunch times for Palo? I want to be prepared when I run over to get ressies.

Palo Brunch is only sea days so that would be Sunday, Monday and Thursday. Our Palo Brunch ressies are for Sunday at 11 am. The last time I logged in to our Reservation, I think Brunch ressies were still available. Did you check online?

Nothing there when I checked, just want to get prepared, LOL

Okay, if the "samples" are full sized drinks, maybe we should get a cab. We were thinking about renting a car on St. Croix. Unless underage kids can drive on St. Croix to get their parents back to the ship! :rotfl2:

Just get to the ship early and hit Rockin' Bar D first thing when you board. I doubt you'll have a problem getting a ressie.

Yeah... from the couple of reviews I read, the drinks are great and strong. And it sounds like you can get a killer deal on purchasing bottles there. I'd like to bring home home some rum.
