10-Oct-2009 - Eastern Magic St. Croix

We are trying for brunch reservations as well. We are wanting to get a table for 4 with my sister and mom. We will be arriving at different times. Can whoever gets there first try to get the reservation for 4? Our reservations are linked and I am able to schedule excursions together. I figured it would not be a problem but just want to make sure.

I've been checking everyday since we booked to try and get Palo reservations. Sigh, no luck. Does anyone know if they (Rockin Bar D) have access to the Flounders schedule when I try to book Palo's in person?

DD2 and I watched the Cruzan Rum video's today, it sounds like a tasty trip!

What are the men planning on wearing to formal night (or historically what do they wear)? I'm trying to avoid having to pack a suit & the tux but if many men will be in tuxes I'll stick it in. Otherwise, just the suit & DH can wear it twice. If it's just for pictures we don't need them, just got married last year so we have recent formal pictures together.

FYI - just booked our one way car rentals for both ends of the trip. Oct 10 - still lots available adn most at a good rate (I looked around), but Oct 17 several sold out & prices somewhat more expensive so if you are thinking of doing it act quickly. I booked Avis.com going & through Orbitz on Budget coming home.

well i dont know from experience but i plan to wear a nice designer suit for the formal night and what not. they cant expect everyone to have or rent a tux, but if you want to rent one i believe they offer a rental service it was $80ish for the rental for the week and it will be waiting for you in your room

Hi. I'm new to disboards. I'm booked on the Oct 10 St Croix cruise. I wanted to say Hi to everybody. This will be my first cruise so I've been doing a lot of reading here at the DCL forum. I am going to be on deck 2.
At St Croix I am considering visiting the Whim Plantation Estate and maybe the nearby botanical garden. Would also like to see a picturesque beach. I decided against the Distillery because I've visited so many of the Bourbon distilleries here in Ky that another distillery isn't very exciting.
I'm quite excited about my first Disney cruise.

I don't know about Flouders. I think if you post this question in the main forum, someone will know the answer!! :thumbsup2

It does sound tasty. :woohoo:

Hi Kelly!
My DH will wear just a nice shirt and slacks to dinner those evenings. He's not a dress-up kind of guy and neither is my DS (15).

Hi and welcome!!!
I read good things about the Rainbow Beach in St. Croix on Trip Advisor over the weekend. In St. Thomas, we're going back to Maagen's Bay. It was nice, quiet and wonderful. But of course, no beach compares to Castaway Cay!!! :dance3::cheer2:

IMONABOAT--My son announced I have officially made that song uncool. All weekend long, I'd holler out, "I'm on a boat"! He is so annoyed by me. :rotfl:

My DH will likely wear a dress shirt and dress pants to the formal dinner. I'm not sure yet if he will bring a tie, he probably will.
For myself, I have not found a dress yet! Or shoes!

What about boys and tween girls for formal? My son is 7 (almost 8) and I have been debating if I should get him a sports coat. He told me he did not want to wear one of those funny black suits (tux). He has a tie with a button down. Is that good enough without a jacket?

Are nice cotton Easter dresses okay for the girls? I was planning on letting her get a really nice formal gown to make it more special but we have not had the chance and are thinking about not getting it now. She is happy just wearing the Easter dress.

My husband will wear a jacket and tie for both formal and semi-formal. He does not have an actual suit and it seems that most do not get a tux on Disney. He did rent one on RCCL.

I'm a huge tripadvisor.com fan. Have used it to plan several vactions.
Rainbow Beach has also been mentioned on cruisecritic.com too.
I've also decided on Magens Bay for St Thomas. We plan to go first thing in the morning when hopefully it's not as crowded.
I'm travelling with my Mom. I'm in my 30s, so its a mother/daughter vacation. She wanted to take a cruise and my father wouldn't go one one. We always vacationed at WDW so it seemed natural to choose DCL. Plus years ago I was a CM at a WDW resort and would send guests off to their DCL cruise and now I get to be one of those people.:yay:
I plan to spend my lunch hour this week working on door magnets. Handy that I work with Photoshop and Illustrator all day anyways.

Where did you work at WDW?

I haven't determined yet what my girls will wear on formal night. I don't know if I will be able to convince DD1 (6) to wear a dress at all, DD2 (4) and DD3 (18 months) will be in Easter-type dresses. I'm kinda leaning towards sending them to the kids club/Flounders for that evening if I can.

I worked at Port Orleans Riverside for 2.5 years. It was Dixie Landings when I started there.

I am still debating whether or not to get my DS (age 9) a suit or not. We have a wedding to go to the night we get back from the cruise so it might just work out for us to buy him one. They have cheap cute ones on ebay.

My DS (15) is wearing a nice dress shirt but we're not sure about the pants. No tie. My DD (5) is wearing a cute ankle length sun dress. With the airlines restricting baggage and charging me fees, I'm taking what we have and not worrying about the rest. We'll look nicer than we normally do but we're not going to be formal in the sense of black tie and evening gown. You will see all sorts in the dining rooms. Some people will still show up in jeans and a polo. I say wear what you are comfortable with. The kids probably won't wear it long enough to matter any way!

When we went to Maagen's Bay 2 years ago, we were off the ship around 9 and made our way to the beach. I think we were back on the ship before 2 pm. It is definitely a nice beach and we're looking forward to returning.

It's so nice that you and your mom will get to cruise together. You will love DCL, nothing compares, in my opinion. I tell people all the time you don't need to have kids to enjoy this cruise.

My DD was usually escorted to the club 1/4 of the way through every dinner meal. It didn't make sense to dress her up for dinner when she just wanted to go play in the club, any way. This is why I only got her a ankle length summer dress for formal night.

I've decided for this cruise I'm not going to torture myself trying to get the children to cooperate for photos. Our favorite ones from last cruise was us in casual clothing (jeans) with the white background. So, I've informed the family there will only be one night of photos and we won't have to get gussied up for it.

I think we are doing Rainbow Beach in St. Croix as well.
