10-Oct-2009 - Eastern Magic St. Croix

You're just down the hall from me. I'm in room 2606. I like Deck 2 and the porthole is HUGE!!

Still waiting on our upgrade, but its good to know deck 2 is where the PARTAAAY will be!! :banana:We're just down from ya too Jac, in cabin 2142!!

Hello, just joining in here. We booked this cruise a few weeks ago and just got our welcome package! I've been reading endlessly on the DIS since I found it. This will be our first family Disney experience and our first cruise, needless to say I am beyond excited.
There are 5 of us travelling, myself, DH and our 3 girls (age 1, 4 and 6) - we're from the southwest coast of Canada. We're flying in late on the Friday night and staying at the Hyatt (need to figure out how to pick up our liquor before we get to the ship as we've booked the disney transport). We leave Florida the same day as we get back to port, but not until 6 pm so I am also trying to figure out what we will do once we are off the ship.
I wish I could say that we're joining you on some excursions, but I am still at the overwhelmed by choices point and haven't booked a single thing. Although this rum distillery sounds right up my alley!

Welcome to Anj and all the other new faces!!!

It will be here so quick! This week I was asked to go on a business trip during the cruise...and I had to say...I love my job but...NO WAY.

My 9 year old made a count down sheet today and taped it to her door.

There sure is a lot to get done though between now and departure huh.

I see facebook discussions going on. Anyone part of the DIS Mafia Wars group?

Welcome!!! Getting your alcohol before the ship will be a task, for sure. When we cruised in 2007, we flew in the day before and got a limo to Cape Canaveral. On the way there, we stopped and got some things at the grocery. But alcohol is not sold in the grocery stores, you had to go to the liquor store. Fortunately for us, the liquor store was next door. What kind of alcohol are you hoping to get for the ship? And one of your DD's is my DD's age. My DD will turn 6 the Thursday we're "on the boat"!

We have a count down going, as well. On the Creative Board one of the talented DISers posted count down strips. They're super cute and it's so neat to see the chain grow smaller day by day! And you're right, there is a LOT to be done before we sail. My DH will be doing business trips the 2 weeks before our trip and immediately after. So..he won't be much help!

Okay easy question..........and I should know ths but I don't.....How do you get an upgrade?:confused3

From what I'm reading on the boards, upgrades are happening 1 of 4 ways. 1) Pixie Dust, 2) DCL calls and offers you a paid upgrade, 3) Upgrade at port if the "boat" isn't full, and 4) You book a GTY and they upgrade you for a higher level than you booked (ex., you book a GTY 12 but they put you in a 9).

Good to know that alcohol isn't sold in the grocery stores, we thought that was standard in the USA (up here it's only sold in liquor stores). So, my plan (prior to reading this) was that one of us would head out in a taxi in the morning to do a quick stop for alcohol.

I was thinking of a pack of ciders for me and maybe some beer for DH, although I was reading about the refillable beer mugs today... I mentioned to DH this morning about whether we would bring a vodka or rum bottle and he suggested we buy some on one of the stops. He's also talking about bring some wine. But I'm not sure if we'll ever be in our room to sit and enjoy that, so now I am going to look up the prices of those wine kits they sell on the cruise. Or maybe I just pay by the glass at dinner, I like to have a glass or two with my dinner. We have inside connecting staterooms (deck 2), I plan to be in there to sleep only since we won't have a view.

Gah, see how much more research I need to do!

I'm glad to read that there will be at least one other 6 yr old on the ship. Will they recognize her bday on the ship?

That's funny..we are planning to bring on board a bottle of vodka and a bottle of rum, small bottles to tide us over until St. Croix where we plan to buy more rum. Can't run out of rum! pirate:

There should be a liquor store somewhat close to the airport/hotel you're staying. You can do a Google search or post in the main forum for feedback, the DISers know all! I think you can buy some alcohol in the grocery store but the harder stuff, like vodka, you cannot. At least we couldn't at the grocery store we stopped at near the airport.

We get in on Thursday, before the cruise, and plan to hit up the stores on Friday for bottled water and our alcohol. If you decide you'd like me to pick you up something, I'd be happy to. We can just meet up on the ship on Saturday to exchange. Up to you!

I don't know if they will or not. I'm going to call DCL and have our reservation noted that she's celebrating her actual birthday. I know I'm taking along some decorations to decorate our room with on her birthday. DH is making her a t-shirt that announces it's her birthday. One way or another, I'm sure the entire ship will know the day belongs to her. :rolleyes1

I've been wondering about the water, do you get a flat of it and carry it on? I read your TR from your last cruise (loved it!) and saw that you got water last time and have wondered since then. We drink a lot of water in our family and wanted to use that tip to buy water beforehand. But wondering if I will be able to manage with wrangling my little ones, plus carry-ons, plus the water....

Thank you for your offer to pick up our alcohol, that is very kind. I will keep that in mind, but I don't want to burden you with packing the extra bottles etc. I'm sure that there has to be something nearby MCO, I will post on the main board for suggestions.

For the bottled water, we just bought a flat of it and put it in a duffel bag and used one of our DCL luggage tags. The duffel bag, with the water, made it to our stateroom with no problem. You will definitely want the water on the cruise. We drank all of it.

Thanks for the compliment on my TR! It was so much fun!!!

Let me know what you figure out with the alcohol. The pirate in me just can't let someone start their cruise without spirits! pirate:
