10 Days in October: Argle-Bargle or Foofarah? UPDATED: POSTS #984 & 995!!!

 I got chills reading this! Nothing worse than a cranky Grimace! :scared1: Thanks for your review of the food and wine pairing at Restaurant Marrakesh... I don't think we'll be trying this one. In fact, I have to admit, we've never eaten at Marrakesh. Don't plan to either. Not my cup o' tea.

Actually...angry Grimace is worse than cranky Grimace....:scared1:

Marrakesh isn't my cup o' tea either...too spicy. I knew that going in to the pairing, but Jon and Jason really wanted to go there so I took one for the team. ;)

Anyway, love the Minnie & Mickey outfits! ...and Jay wasn't even drunk when this picture was taken? So, Grimace & Jon went to MNSSHP too? I'm dying to know what their costumes were... ;)

Jay's mom really did a nice job on our costumes, didn't she? Especially mine...(I think she was feeling a little sorry for me at the time what with the surgeries and the drugs and all that crap that we'd be dealing with all year).

And I have only seen my husband drunk once in the entire time that I have known him...I'm the one who can't hold her liquor. :rotfl2:

I'll give you a hint...Grimace didn't wear a costume. ;)

Good luck getting ready for your thing on Monday. It's good you have a positive attitude about it. "Always look at the bright side of your life..." :rolleyes1

(In my best Jack impression :cool2: ) After all, what if this is as good as it gets? :goodvibes

-Michelle

Thanks Michelle - even though I've done this several times before I always dread the "prep" the day before.

Thanks for reading and for the good thoughts.

Thanks again for the great information! I'll see what DH wants to do. Wish we were going to be there the 19th, but we're there from the 7th to the 12th. But I'll be there in spirit, so be sure to have a drink for me!;)

We'll have a drink for you as long as you have a drink for us! :thumbsup2

Oooh, we'll go! We'll go!

Excellent - we'll be looking for you. :goodvibes

Actually, I'm in the unique situation. I can possibly do LeCellier with "the Other Lori" and you, but not during the same week. ;) I'm going to try to book two weeks in a row, since my trip overlaps two Fridays.

Two pairings at Le Cellier...Lori's living large! Is Le Cellier really that good? We've never been so I'm curious to know what you think. And whether or not the menu gets changed around from week to week.

So, I don't know how this happened, but I just had to catch up with like three installments... reading those three installments at once was like eating a nice chocolate eclair... :)

Hi Lamagique - nice to see you! Mmmmmmm....chocolate eclair. Thanks!

Anyway, I am so glad that the Grimace is back! Hahaha... she did look content in that one picture, but that's it. I loved your caption/title for that photo: "I Blame You For Everything." Once again, I was :rotfl:

If my mother knew just how popular she's become on the DIS...I'm not sure if she'd be flattered or appalled. :rotfl2: I'm glad you enjoyed the latest updates - it always makes me feel good to know that I was able to get a laugh out of a reader. I mean, the whole thing is supposed to be funny, but I never know when I post something if my sense of humor is going to "come through" or not.

But man, your photos and descriptions really make me want to go to Epcot during the F&W Festival... it sounds like so much fun. Can't wait for the next installment and more corny jokes. :thumbsup2 Oh! And of course, more of you guys in your costumes... adorable. I think I love you. Hahhaa.

I will tell you what I've been telling everyone for years - The Food & Wine Festival is awesome and you simply must go!! Thanks for reading and I promise to finish up MNSSHP today.

Considering your appreciation for all things booze'n'tasty, adoration of The Simpsons, and disdain for pants I vaguely recall a drinking game (from a college party way back when) called Peter Pantsless and I suspect it's something you might have enjoyed :rotfl2:

Bwwwahahahahahahahaaaaaaa.....:rotfl2: I was terrible at those games so I think I would have just had to have shown up to the party pantsless to begin with. ;)

Now that I got out my sillies, I have to say those were some impressive costumes you two had for MNSSHP and I do so enjoy your vivid description of Grimace's arrival in Morocco. I'm pretty sure I felt the chill just reading it. Always a good time, keep it coming!

We're going to be seeing Jay's mom today for Mother's Day and I think I'm going to pass along everyone's costume kudos to her. She just recently had surgery on her knee and I think a nice little compliment on her sewing might cheer her up a little. Although, if it were me, a nice little pain pill would cheer me up. ;)

Thanks for continuing to read and for your kind comments. I asked Jay if I was going over the top too much on the Grimace arrival scene and he just laughed and said, "Are you kidding? It took me an hour to thaw out from that and I'm the human furnace." :rotfl2:

You guys sure eat a lot. ;)

Sounds like fun. :thumbsup2

We're pigs, it's true. But we're well-mannered pigs. ;)

I came over from your food TR and I haven't finished catching up yet which is why this reply is going to be really out of place, but I had to say it:

I OWN a Yakoose head!!! I got it several years ago and treasure it to this day. (It holds my pens on my desk at home.) Its a shame they are no long selling them. I'm glad I bought into "Club Yakoose" when I did. ;) :rotfl: The AC is one of my must dos every trip. "It's now time for the parade from the unisex bathroom." :lmao:

Woot!!! Another new reader...or a delurked reader...either way thank you for reading and for posting! Like so many others on this board I am a response junkie....I'm not proud of this insatiable need to know what others think about our adventures and whether or not the telling of it measures up to the mysterious DIS yardstick of quality that I've heard of but never seen.

Anyway back to the subject at hand...You have a Yakoose!!!!! That's one ugly mug. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I was so bummed when I found out that they weren't selling them any longer. As for the AC - we're hooked and can't wait to go again later this month. :thumbsup2

Anyway, great report. I love hearing about the F&W fest and all the events. I have always wanted to go to this. For someone who loves food and wine (and beer) as much as I do, I'm surprised I haven't been yet. Hmm...maybe soon...

Thanks for such a terrific report! :thumbsup2 popcorn::

Thanks so much for reading! And yes, as I have said to so many others...you must get to the F&W Festival. It's a moral imperative!!!

**Anyone know what movie I just quoted there? I love that movie...so silly!**

*GASP*! I'm very disappointed in you young lady! ON PAGE TWO?!?! Shame, shame, shame. Stop creating new boozey drinks, or packing for your shrubbery trip, or watching Simpsons/Monty Python and come and give us more, more, more!

Unless you're ill. Or suffering from a flesh wound. In that case, take your time and feel better soon! ;)

Twingle, thanks for the bump. :flower3:

I've been kind of scarce the last few days - just terriblly terribly busy outside of the house. Sadly said busy-ness did not involve shrubberies (although Jason did make some purchases at the nursery yesterday) or any good humorous cartoons or movies.

My job was making me mentally ill...does that count? ;)

Look for a MNSSHP update today. :thumbsup2

Thanks again for reading and posting. If there are any lurkers out there, I'd love to hear from you. Join in the fun...I won't bite, I promise. :goodvibes

::yes:: Totally familiar with the mentally ill inducing job - that's why you take mental health days!

Glad you're doing okay and just a busy, busy, gal. Take your time in updating - I'll still be here!popcorn::

OK, I have caught up after a wonderful trip to WDW and our first cruise!:cheer2:

Some thoughts:

On our way to Orlando, the flight attendant had the nerve to demand that my kids wear headphones to watch the Simpsons. Um...how can all three of us hear then? It's the Simpsons! Everyone wants to hear!

I saw 3 different women who reminded me of Grimmie on my cruise. Two of them were at various alcohol tastings (how can you be unhappy tasting likker?) and another was at the adult pool. They were Grim. Grim Grimmies.

Also, I saw that you used the word 'wang' in a part of your pantsless escapades. Wang and no pants. In a DIS~friendly manner. I believe that earns you 8 million points.:thumbsup2

Tuesday, October 24th - It's So Cold I Can't Think of a Cliche to Describe How Cold It Is.

**Author's note - Sadly I am not enjoying a tasty adult beverage this evening while I finish this installment, which probably should have been subtitled The Longest Day. Considering the medical procedures which are looming on the horizon too much alcohol would have been a bad thing tonight. If you find that this episode is lacking a certain sparkle or flair, it may be due to one or both of the following:

1) You now know the horrible truth: non-drinking Brenda is dull and boring with even less personality, if possible, than a sheet of plywood. If you are disappointed by this discovery, please see point # 2;

2) Perhaps you should consider drinking and reading...you may actually find me much more amusing this way (recent studies have shown that 9 out of 10 readers actually think this report is more amusing after at least one cocktail).

Thank you for your attention - we now return you to the mindless dribble**

Finally! After three years of begging and pleading Jason and I were going to attend Mickey's Halloween party in costume! As I previously mentioned, Jason's mom was kind enough to make both of our costumes, which we modified a bit based on our weather expectations (derived from four straight years of Octobering in Florida). Said modifications included Jason's substitution of red workout shorts for long pants and my decision to forgo tights. Before we left St. Louis we expected that this evening at the MK would be warm and humid, especially in costume, and we wanted to keep things as light and comfortable as possible.

Here's Jay and me all dressed up, because if I do say so myself, I think we look pretty cute.
DSC01443.jpg

Well, we kept things light, but Mother Nature had the last laugh by sending a blast of Arctic air all the way down to Orlando...if this hadn't been a hard ticketed event you can bet that Grimace would have snuggled up in bed early to watch Game 3 of the World Series. Not that she's a baseball fan, because she isn't.

Grimace didn't wear a costume. She really didn't need to, did she?

Jon, however, decided to get in on the fun and dressed up as...himself!!
DSC01444.jpg

We decided to get to the MK before 7PM, which is the official start time of the party. At the gate we were all awarded a piece of Disney flare for the evening: a colored plastic wristband similar to the kind that a hospital uses to identify its patients shortly before losing them. Upon returning to the villa later in the evening we would discover that something almost as powerful as the jaws of life is required to cut through the plastic.

We took a few pictures before the party started, but for some reason our camera doesn't take very good nighttime pictures (operator error, no doubt) so we didn't even try.

I just love these illuminated Mickey ghosts!

I don't really care for the new manner in which Disney decided to handle admittance to the party this year. In years past the park closed at 6PM on nights when it was hosting MNSSHP and then it re-opened at 7PM for those guests with tickets. If guests were already in the park who held tickets for that evening's party they could go to designated areas, or holding pens, within the park until the party officially started.

In 2006 someone decided to leave the park open and make periodic announcements to guests that they would have to leave by 7PM if they didn't have a ticket for the evening's event. That worked really well.

We saw people in the park well after 7PM who weren't wearing wristbands and who were still trying to get on rides. We got behind one family where the mother was arguing with the CM..."We didn't know there was something special going on this evening."

CM: "I'm sorry about that, but the park is closed to everyone who doesn't have a wristband at this point. Announcements were made throughout the park beginning at 6PM. I can't allow you on the ride."

Mom: "This will be the last ride we go on and then we'll leave...look at my kids, Buzz Lightyear is their favorite ride..."

Tough spot for that CM to be in and I felt for her. On the one hand you've got a manipulative guest who's trying to get around the "rules" for the evening and on the other hand you've got a queue full of people who paid $40 per person for the "privilege" of attending this party and participating in all the special events that went along with it.

That CM stuck to her guns and got a huge round of applause for the effort.

And I called that guest manipulative because we saw her later trying to get her kids in one of the treat-or-treat lines in Tomorrowland before being turned away.

Anyway, would you like to see how our Buzz Lightyear photo turned out?

Isn't this picture great? I suck at rides like this - I can't see the targets very well and my aim is terrible. But I am determined to kill something - look at the way I'm gritting my teeth. And then look at the smug superiority on Jay's face. He seems to be thinking, "I could spot her 100,000 points and still beat her with one hand tied behind my back."

A few more pics of the evening and then I've got to cut it short.

1703.jpg

We did a lot of trick-or-treating because surprisingly enough that's what Grimace wanted to do. As we went through the lines for candy, many of the CMs referred to Jay and I as "The Boss and The First Lady." We thought that was really cute. :goodvibes

There was one CM, however, who rather sarcastically told us that we lacked imagination. And while he might have been on to something there, I think he failed to notice the mulitudes of other guests who were all dressed like pirates.

We stayed through Hallowishes and then went back to the villa to thaw out - it was just too cold a night to last at the MK any longer. Even Jay was cold and when the human furnace gets chilly you know that it's frosty outside.

Back in the room we were excited to see that the Cardinals were beating the Tigers in Game 3, and Plankton was excited about all the candy we received.

Mine, It's All Mine!

Snuggling inside my jacket for the night - even power-mad mascots get cold sometimes.

Woot! Blackmail photo reposted!

Grimace didn't wear a costume. She really didn't need to, did she?

A Chernabog costume might have been nice. :rolleyes1

Jon, however, decided to get in on the fun and dressed up as...himself!!

 The Dilbert tie! He looks like a mad scientist, and Plankton was a result. ;)

Yes, I went to the party in 2005, and I was able to enter the park on my hard ticket after 4pm. I went in the park early, got a bite to eat, and I was in a "holding pen" in Adventureland before the party opened.

Gee, that sounds ineffective.

Oh, the Entitlement Family! Those who feel the rules don't apply to them! I'm glad that CM stuck to her guns. :)

Anyway, would you like to see how our Buzz Lightyear photo turned out?

Classic. I believe I may have to call you Grimace Jr.

There was one CM, however, who rather sarcastically told us that we lacked imagination. And while he might have been on to something there, I think he failed to notice the mulitudes of other guests who were all dressed like pirates.

LOL no kidding! I do have a friend from VMK who went last year as Waldo (just like the Where's Waldo? book), and I heard that the cast members just LOVED her costume.)

Mine, It's All Mine!

You know, some pictures are just made perfect with his pose. Anything he can plunder...take a pic. It works well for him. ;)

Another fun installment. popcorn::

That is one determined look on your face Brenda. So, who really did win?

I also know where the "Entitlement Family" lives. Right here in Wisconsin! I ran into them this morning at breakfast. This time they were trying to talk the manager into letting the kids eat free because they were all under 10 and not very hungry anyway. We sat next to them and watched the kids devour more food than the 4 lumberjacks sitting next to us on the other side.:confused3

Thanks for the laughs Brenda. You never cease to entertain me.

(Good luck tomorrow, I'm thinking about you:hug: )

Hey! Where did the picture go??

Loved this installment... as I have loved all the others. My favorite part (besides the Buzz Lightyear pic):

DSC01445.jpg

There's a custodial! Right in the middle of the pic! Ah, be still my heart!

No, I really enjoyed this and your costumes and Plankton looks so cute with the candy! Can't wait for more!

I get soooooooooooooooo competitive on this ride i WONT EVEN LET MY 6 YEAR OLD WIN:lmao: :lmao:

I AM a super space ranger;)

There's never a dull moment with you Brenda! Another great installment and I love that Jon dressed up - holding Plankton really gave him that edge to go from scientist to mad scientist. All the best with whatever medical hurdles are on the track ahead.

Oh, and I tried a kiwi mojito (or three) last night, couldn't help but think of you :upsidedow

I sat down today to catch up on reading, and I don't know how it happened, but I was ELEVEN pages behind!

Hee hee hee... pants!

Also:

There was one CM, however, who rather sarcastically told us that we lacked imagination. And while he might have been on to something there, I think he failed to notice the mulitudes of other guests who were all dressed like pirates.

...:sad1:

Also also: Did you know that you get to go to Disney World very soon?

I was so excited to see an update when I logged on this morning! DH was snoring so much, I've been up since, 5 a.m., and sorely needed something to cheer me up! Love your pics of MNSSHP; we're going for the first time this year and I'm trying to decide on a good "costume theme" for me, DH and DD6. Don't worry abou the rude CM (maybe he needed a little drinkypoo for the evening!:rotfl2: ). Your costumes were classic!!

Hope everything goes well with the medical stuff today!:flower3:

Thanks for another fun installment, Brenda! (Even though you weren't drinking when you wrote it, and I wasn't drinking when I read it, it was still fabulously enjoyable;) )

I'll have to remember to plan on maybe a cold day or two on our October trip, as that's something I wouldn't have thought of. I keep telling my mother how HOT it's going to be (she's not a big fan of 90 degree weather) and at the same time reminding her I gave her the option of going in December instead. I'm really looking forward to our first Halloween Party. It looks like a lot of fun.

Good luck today, Brenda!

Yay - loved your description of MNSSHP! Pictures were great as usual. I definately need to make sure we get some of the "Disney" pictures. We've never purchased those, and they're very fun!

Good luck and pixie dust to you todaypixiedust: (really, and every day. Who couldn't use extra pixie dust?pixiedust: )

Love the pics, Brenda! Looks like y'all had a great time, even though it was frosty.:goodvibes

You could never be dull Brenda!!! Your costumes look great and that was so thoughtful of your mother-in-law to do that for you. Sorry it was so cold for you at the Party - you can never count on the weather in Florida unless it's summer! Can't wait for more.:)

Hope you're feeling better and that the tests went well. When you're feeling up to it, we can't wait to hear some more!!!

Denise
