10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

We have fallen again. Geez this board is busy.

Guess I can tell you about me - I am a Director of Operations for a software company. Some travel to do consulting, some support, some accounting but I will say no programming - I just can't do that. And when I am not working - just keeping up with those boys is all this body can handle. LOVE Disney, favorite is cruising (of course) but WDW is pretty high on the list. Our first cruise was in 2000 (back when they had problems filling the ships, what a deal we got) and have cruised each year since - all on DCL except the year we went to Alaska on Princess. DH's family has a reunion in the odd years (hence the Thanksgiving Wonder trip) and we went to Hawaii in '99 and it has been DCL (Magic once and the Wonder the rest of the time) since.

OK - I will save DH for the next installment. Have a great evening!

Hi All.

We're back from Australia. Had a good time. Weather was great. Spent most of our time at the pool keeping cool.

The kids are back at school this week.

Thanks for posting the back-to-back procedure Lois. We have the same room but I don't think we'll get the same servers either. My parents and brother are joining us on this cruise so our table size will be different anyway.

Hi Everyone:

I'm back from West Virginia. Had a great time with my two grandchildren who live there. Too much fun and too little time with them.

Tania, it doesn't hurt to ask/request the same servers, if you want the same servers. We did that once 2 years ago, and they moved our requested server to our dining rotation and we had him all week.

As you can tell, Dave and I have cruised DCL several times. On the Wonder 9/14/08 cruise, it'll be me sharing a stateroom with my DD's m-i-l, my daughter, husband and 2 kids and another daughter, husband and 2 kids. Can't wait! Dave will not be cruising at that time, as our 10/4/07 cruise was first booked and he doesn't get much vacation time. By the way, the 9/14 cruise is booked through DVC.

Beautiful weather here in mid-Michigan. I love the fall weather.

Sounds like several of us have been in travel mode. We just now got home from my mom's house in North Carolina. My DH decided to take the scenic route through the mountains. This would have been beautiful to see except it meant being in the van for an extra hour with my four dear sweet angelic boys. ;)

Waking up in the morning and heading to Dollywood. Hoping that a Wednesday won't be too crowded.

A little about the Powell's: My DH and I have been married for 14 years. He is a supervisor with UPS and I teach 7th grade math here in Chattanooga. Our children are: Ben, who just turned 12 on Sunday, and he plays soccer, video games and enjoys creating comic books. Jake, 10, is my resident diva. He has a different girlfriend every week, and earning a cell phone is his biggest goal at the present time. My third son Nathan will be 8 on Oct. 30th and wants to do anything and everything that his older brothers do. My baby Matthew is 6, and when he isn't destroying everything in his path, is one of the sweetest, most loving children I know.

I told my DH this weekend that I had booked the cruise, and he said, "You know we can't go, you know we've got debt to pay off, " so I was a little discouraged, but then on the way home, he said, "I need to pick my vacation for next year, so let me know when our cruise is". I almost kissed him right there. I can see me explaining to the officer, "I know he was driving in heavy traffic, but I HAD to kiss him, he's taking me on a DISNEY CRUISE!", lol. Fortunately, he had a wonderful time on our first cruise back in 05.

Gotta go, my DH wants me to look up a hotel room in Ashville for tomorrow night.

Later everyone!

My DH does that, too! He was so totally against a cruise because of the money. I didn't tell him I was going ahead with the planning until I was ready to put down a deposit. I only told him then so he could help me decide between this cruise or land/sea, and which room cat to pick. For someone concerned about money... he picked the 7-day in a verandah room! I just kept talking about it like it was a definite, and eventually he caved! Had to do our week-long WDW trips the same way.

OK, a little about us:

By the time of this cruise, Dave will be 60, I'll be 57! You're probably thinking that we are older than your own parents. Us boomers like to cruise too! And, we love cruising DCL as you can tell by my signature. Dave and I have been married 23 years. We have three children, his and mine.

I have a paralegal degree and work as a legal secretary in East Lansing, MI. Dave works at Ford Motor in the Detroit area.

My son, Jeff, is 36, married with 2 kids, Paul (5.5) and Anna (2.5). They live in Morgantown, WV and he is employed at West Virginia University as a network engineer/programmer/etc. He and his DW met while undergrads at the University of Michigan. Jeff was a teaching assistant at Rutgers and earned his masters there. My d-i-l was born in Vietnam and arrived in the US when she was 15.

My daughter, Lisa, is 34, married with 2 kids, Sean (3.5) and Samie (16 months). She and her DH met while undergrads at Western Michigan University. They live in Kalamazoo, MI. Lisa is a CPA and works out of her home. Her DH is a chemist.

Dave's daughter, Kim, is 34, married with 2 kids, Haley (5.0) and Bella (3.5). She and her DH met in middle school. Kim earned her degree at Saginaw Valley State Univ and is an occupational therapist and DH is an accountant. They live in Wyandotte, MI, a suburb of Detroit.

Enough about us. Have a great day everyone.

WOW! That's a lot of kids in a few years! The ages are great... I know they have a ball when you get together.

It's been great reading about everyones family. I can't wait to get to meet each of you next year. Hoping this post moves us up to Page one. Lois

Hey, I don't know if any of you have seen this or not, but my friend sent it to me and it's hilarious. I'm going to put it on the community board if noone else has, but I wanted to share it here first.

For someone concerned about money... he picked the 7-day in a verandah room!

That's funny. He probably knew it was going to happen anyway, so he just picked the best, lol. I think my DH is just giving in b/c he knows that I have wanted to go back since the day we walked off the ship. (Actually, I think he's ready for a vacation that doesn't involve watching our children 24/7. We went to Dollywood today and the crowds were HUGE. Was a little stressful trying to keep up with four boys wanting to go in four different directions.)

My DH is giving in to the cruise because his other choice was to go back to WDW for a week. We did that the last 2 years, and he wants to wait a few years before going back. he said he wanted me to find something different... so here we are!

I have never been to Dollywood... one of those places I want to see one day. We are planning to do a 3-day trip to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg this spring.

If you go, the Christmas season is a great time to go. They put up the decorations, I believe, starting Nov. 10 or so. It is so pretty and homey. We went last year right before Christmas with my MIL/FIL, as well as DH's sisters, their spouses, and their kids. It was so nice watching the shows, seeing the lights, and ending the day in the bakery with a cup of hot chocolate and a choc. chip cookie.

Good moring, everyone!

I just wanted to jump in and say that we are booked on this cruise as well. DH and I sailed with some friends on the Magic last week after a week at the WDW parks which is why I'm still tired!

Anyway, we booked this cruise on points and are taking our Ds's, Eric - 27, Blake - 23, DDIL - Miranda 22, DGS - Nate 1 1/2, DS - Austin - 20, me - Denise - 46 and DH - Steve - 50. All ages are at the time of sailing.

We're taking everyone because this will be our 25th wedding anniversary. Yeah Eric's age doesn't compute, huh? He's my DH's son from his first marriage and is the HAPPIEST about this cruise! I knew one of my kiddos had to love Disney as much as I do!

Anyway, we're so glad to join you and look forward to meeting you all.

Have a Disney day everyone!

Denise, Welcome to the club! What a great way to celebrate a 25th anniversary.

It's a BEAUTIFUL day here in CHattanooga, it's sunny and the high is going to be around 68.

I'm on fall break and hoping to get a little house work done before going back. I emptied the freezer to defrost it, and my dear 7.5 year old decided to help by dumping a big container full of water into the freezer. The drain is evidently clogged b/c now I have a freezer with about 2 inches of water in the bottom. Aren't children so helpful?

Welcome Denise and Family!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

I've added you and your family to post #1.

On our 9/14/08 Wonder cruise, we'll be cruising with 2 daughters and families. Love those grandkids.

To all my fellow Buccaneers:

I'll be on the Wonder beginning 10/21. If anyone wants me to pick up a souvenir or take pictures of a certain something/someone on the ship, or ask guest services about something, please let me know. I'd be happy to do that.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Jan

Jan, just take lots of pics to share here. We need a DCL fix to hold us over until we get there. :)

I hope you have a wonderful time and great weather.

Lori P. :)

Hello, everyone! We, too, just got off the Magic last week and are hoping to be joining you all on the 10-4-08 Western. I fully intended to only do the re-booking onboard thing as a place holder for a 2009 cruise, but we just had such a wonderful time that it's hard to imagine not keeping this reservation.

We do currently have a DVC vacation booked for WDW in July. Ugh! Hate to go at one of the hottest, most crowded times of the year, but we'll have to do that if DD makes the school basketball team. I think they'll have tryouts in May, and if she makes it, we'll stick with July in the parks. If not, we'll be all in for October on the Magic.

It'll be myself, Alicia (43), DH John (43), DS Eric (14), DD Kristen (12), DD Anna Kate (6)

I look forward to getting to know you guys better while we wait to sail. :goodvibes

momm2four, our tablemates last week were Powells from Tennessee too. They were from the other side of the state (Memphis) from you though. We really enjoyed their company. I thought it was cool that we were paired with fellow Tennesseans.

Hi Alicia! I hope you keep your 2008 reservations. Never can be too many Tennesseans on board, lol. I'll be heading your way next month for the TN Jr. Beta Club Convention. We will be staying at the Opryland Hotel for two nights (Nov. 18th/19th).

Is Eric 14 now, or will that be his age at the time of sailing? My oldest DS will be turning 13 on the ship that week (as old as that makes me feel). I'm hoping that as the cruise gets closer, we can start some kind of communication between everyone's kids.

Alright, time for bed for me. Goodnight everyone, talk to you later,
Lori P.:)
