10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

I have debated getting a Nook, but I worry I won't use it enough to get my money's worth out of it. I'm still really old-fashioned and love going to the library and checking out books. :confused3

Both Nooks and now Kindles have agreements with libraries where you can check out books, you should look into it if you're really wanting a e-reader. There are also a ton of classics out that are out of copyright that have been made available as e-books for free. Think Edgar Rice Burroughs, Jane Austen, etc.

I was a little bummed about missing Disney days, as well, but the closer the cruise gets, the more excited I am about trying something new. I have a feeling that once we're on the ship and all the activities are underway, our WDW woes will wash away. :thumbsup2

You guys are going to have such a great time! :woohoo:

We are in for the pirate pirate:picture, although we don't have lots of things to wear...so we will be halfway dressed up.

I will NOT buy anything else for FE....repeat...I will NOT buy anything else for FE... it is killing me...I have to stop shopping. :worship:

I still don't know how I'm going to pack what I already have. I have 7 more gifts to make for the girls and 11 to make for the rest of the families! Tomorrow is craft day and Friday is PACKING day! Saturday Fiddler's Convention and my Dad's birthday! Whoo...got to make a cake!

Next week is filled with Doctors appointment, pedicure (of course) and finish grading papers (I home school my son) AND the Biggy....CLEAN my house! :laundy:My house/dog sitter is going to croak when she sees my house.

I'm afraid I'll be sleeping the whole week on the cruise! :cloud9:

STRESSED OUT!

That's why I love that my husband got me a Kindle for Mother's day in 2010! I'm just bringing my "precious" with about 70 books on it. Now, I've read them all, note to self, get a new book today or tomorrow for the flight...

Do the kindles work at sea? i mean i know they work but can you shop for books while at sea? If not i need to add this to my to do list.

If kindles are anything like nook they require wifi access to purchase and or download books or you can on a computer if you are getting free books from project guitenburg or the library. But the computer would need Internet access.

Am getting more excited and do hope the wdw woes will go away!

Nope, there's no 3G or WiFi at sea. You'll want to get your books ahead of time. Great thing to do while you're waiting in port, you can still get them until we sail away so even if you forget until the very very last minute you should get some access.

I would but I'll be in DiscoveryCove that day, anyone else?

I didn't think they would-but a lot has changed since my last cruise so i figured I'd ask.

Another question for you... Tipping do i need to tip for the baby? i am assuming so, but if anyone thinks otherwise, please give me your opinion.

Yes, you do need to tip for the kiddo. Trust me, your servers will be entertaining her like crazy at dinner, and the stateroom host will be cleaning up after her too, so they'll earn every penny! And you guys will enjoy having someone to look after her a bit at meals. It helps that she's a total darling :cutie:

I MAY be near my computer around that time--so I can't promise, but I will try. (Once I figure out how to-LOL!!)

Anyone used cribs on the ship before? Just curious if I need to pack a bumper? She sleeps right up against the rails usually so I've kept the bumper on her crib here at home.

Also, Pirate night...is it usually cold at night? Natalie has a pirate skirt and I've got a cute iron on I'm going to put on a shirt. Just trying to figure if I should buy her a short sleeve or long sleeve.

Suggestion for another DISmeet and photo op - I would love to get a group photo on Pirate Night! pirate: Are many of us getting dressed up? I have a pirate hat and wench top. I packed a few extra pirate hats cause I couldn't decide which one to wear, they are cheap (dollar store) and they are light:rotfl2:

I am soooooo excited!

We are in for a Pirate meet and photo. Us girls will be very piratey and I am going to keep it simple for the boys with sashes and eye patches.

Getting so excited!

So we're down to less than 2 weeks to go, Renee still needs to surprise her kids (and will be bringing video for us, right? :cutie:), but what else does everyone have left to do? I have 1 week to finish up the FE gfts (Yeah, those aren't going to get mailed after all!) and get packed, can't forget the travel power strip and the laundry sheets with detergent and fabrc softener in them (can't remember the brand but I already have them, just need to pack a few for us). I also need to go through my magnets and see what we're taking, don't need the ones for Ryan or Scott, and print out my confirmations for Cozumel (scuba diving) and Grand Cayman (Capt. Marvin's for stingray city!)

I have started to pull clothing so my kids don't wear it again before we leave. 1/2 done with pirate costumes, dressy dresses need some alterations, need to get some dress shoes for the girls, figure out magnets, haven't booked excursions, agggghhhhh. Starting to feel freaked out.

Of course, being freaked out about an upcoming Disney Cruise is a very good freak out indeed :cool1:

Will there be any extra bands if someone wants one?

We did not get in on the bands but I bought some lime green bands at the dollar store for the kids so they will sort of be recognizable and if I spot three more lime ones I plan to get those for us as well. Maybe you could do the same? Even though they won't be a great souvenir, they will act as a DIS identifier.

I wouldnt...Just ask your stateroom host for an extra blanket or sheets.
It has been getting a little chilly here at night do you have a small jacket that you might have to use more then one night.

K this reminds me (and I am aging myself)

Aaahh Freak out!

I have to remind myself that our cruise is a vacation to have fun!!

I think they are pack and plays? But I am not sure, I like to pack my own sheet and blanket for the lil one. I thought i saw a pic somewhere of the crib and it was a graco PNP but who knows if they have changed them to port a cribs.
