10/15/2011 - Taking the West by Magic!

Hi, I'm new here.. First time posting. This will be our first cruise as well. There will be myself, DH, DS (13), DS (10) and DD (8). Will be finally booking our flights tonight. Wheww.. Just car rental to go.

:wave2: Hi and :welcome: Becker5. Just let us know if you have any questions. There are many here that have the answer :cutie:

So FE group, I've found that I can't attach to a PM, so if everyone doesn't mind, would you PM me your e-mail addresses and I'll send it out to you?

Just as a summary, we've got 14 cabins, with 22 adults, 6 boys and 6 girls (I don't have people counts for TheBrowns yet, if you guys will post that I'll add it to the roll call as soon as I can), one more week before it's closed out, so it looks like we'll have a nice exchange group! :woohoo:

Thanks for keeping up Jennifer :flower3:, because I lost track a few mesg's ago :lmao:

Welcome to all the newbies - please fill free to post any questions you may have.

Hi again :goodvibes Thanks to all who have sent their welcome wishes...we are super excited about this trip!!!

Oh, and since you guys are open for questions, I do have a couple: Can we use the logos on FE gifts? I have something in mind, but I don't know if I need permission from the artist or if it is for public use. Also, do we have a closing date for the FE exchange?

Thanks :)

Welcome aboard Becker5!!! I'll add your crew to the roll call, there are a few other kiddos who are in the 10 - 13 range as well so they'll have someone to talk to. Let me know if you want to add in your names to the listing and I'll add them.

You got the closing date, and ivet was awesome and contacted Jordak for the DISigns, so yes, you are able to use them in the FE gifts. :cutie:

Sorry for the delayed reply! Our count in each cabin is 2 adults and 2 kids (2 boys/2 girls). Let me know if there's anything else you need. My husband mentioned that a few are trying to arrange a Palo meet? We're all thinking of the brunch. So, keep us in mind if you decide on a brunch. We can't try to book until August 1st (fingers crossed if we can).

Forgot to ask...

Since I'm still trying to navigate myself around the DISboard, I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've been looking for some info on the baby nursery club. ANyone use it on the Magic? Have experience with it? Tips? Good/bad? I went in the FAQ but didn't see anything. My daughter is 2yrs old. Thanks!

I haven't used it, but have heard good things about it. Basically, once you're PIF, then you can book time in the nursery, I think you have 8 hours to start with, and then can book more time if it's available depending on how many other people book. I don't know what the charge is per hour, probably Disney would have to answer that.

We're still wavering on whether to book a brunch or a dinner, I would also lean towards a brunch, that way the folks who are celebrating anniversaries and honeymoons can have that special dinner with their SO rather than deciding between a special romantic dinner and consorting with us hooligans! :lmao:

As for the FE, can you get me the ages of the kiddos in the cabins and sexes, if you don't want to post names, that's OK (although we'll all just call you "The Browns" everywhere!) but for the FE group it would be helpful to have ages.

Sure, no problem!

The Brown family-
Jim (Hubby), Terra (Wife), Nathan (5yrs), Natalie (2 yrs)

In the other cabin is our best friends.
The Kebede Family-
Bobby (Hubby), Amy (Wife), Anissa (7yrs), Aidan (5 yrs)

I will keep checking on the nursery. I didn't know about the 8 hrs to start with! That's a bonus! :thumbsup2

Looks like we reached the minimum! I will have to give Disney a call and see what needs to be done to get the "big room." I wonder if we still have to wait for August 1?

Probably yes, you can certainly ask, but I bet they won't actually book any reservations until the PIF date and everyone is paid in full.

I got you added to the roll call and the FE list. Don't quote me on the 8 hours, it could be more, could be less I think depending on how many kiddos are on the cruise although based on our meet thread, it's not going to be a ton!

Let me know if you need a reservation number to get us all booked together. I have a brunch one if you need it. I dont know how many more reservation numbers they may need. Thanks for checking on this

Hi guys,

So, we are planning on snorkeling in CC, taking a snorkel excursion in Cozumel, and probably just going to a public/snorkeling beach in GC...we have our own masks and snorkels, but we don't have our own fins (yet). We have always borrowed them from friends, but they aren't available this time.

Is it possible to just "rent" the fins from CC and from the excursion we go on? Does anyone know how much they will cost? Will we miss having them if we go somewhere on our own to snorkel in GC?

Also, do they have smaller sizes to fit the kids? DS is 8, so he would probably wear an adult small size (which we figured out, but he would need one of those dive socks to keep it on for now, giving plenty of growing room) but DD is only 5 with a small foot and might need those kiddie fins.

What do you think? We first thought about purchasing them because we will probably be needing them in the next few years (we are planning a trip to Hawaii), but we could also wait and get them new for that trip. We were planning on driving down down (from Alabama), but now we will have to fly from Utah and it seems like carrying the fins will be a hassle factor.

Has anyone else dealt with this before?

TIA!

Funny you should ask, up until this trip, that's what we've done. You can absolutely rent just the fins on CC, actually, usually when I ask (I don't worry about reservations) they just give me the fins, I have my own mask and snorkel. They have lots of kids sizes on CC so that's no problem.

For the snorkel excursion in Cozumel they'll also have equipment, so if all you need is fins, you can just get fins. They'll probably also have fins for your DS, for sure, I don't know about your DD. As for GC, I don't know if there is anywhere to rent fins on the beaches, you can snorkel without them, but it's a lot more work.

This time around we're bringing our fins, along with wetsuits and my husband's scuba gear so I think we'll need a large suitcase just for that stuff!

HAHA, no worries. I won't hold ya to it! Where do I go about finding out that info, though? Woudl you or anyone know? I looked on the DCL site and it states hourly rates but never mentions anything about getting hours off the bat.

Sorry, totally forgot our names. Ok, so I'm Lisa, DH is Larry, DS 13 is Alex, DS 10 is Aaron and DD 8 is Alyssa or all other wise know as the tripleAclub. I'm think we might be interested in the FE exchange.. Just need to catch up on the emails to figure out what's all involved.

Well, I am not absolutely clear after getting off the phone, but this is how I understand it:

We need to fax a written request (I have the # and will PM it to anyone who wants it) with:
  • Palo reservation #
  • Sail date
  • Reservation # for each party *
  • Reason for get together
  • Contact name, phone, e-mail for party

* This is where I had confusion after I hung up thinking that we ALL had to get Palo reservations, but I think it may have just referred to cruise reservations.

Do you think that whomever's Palo reservation is used needs to be the contact, or are we ok to have me the contact still? I am not trying to be in charge, I just don't want to dump this responsibility on someone after getting it started.

In any case, we will all have to PM our cruise reservation # to the leader, the leader, wherever they may go. It is safe to share this info, I hope?

Yes, PMing cruise reservations is fine. The most that someone could do with this is link to you and book excursions for you! :scared1: :lmao:

I'll get you my reservation info tonight, thanks so much for taking this on! :lovestruc

I saw it posted here on the boards by other users. You should be able to call DCL and verify how many hours you can book before the cruise. So what that means (just so I'm sure I'm phrasing this right) is that you can reserve a certain number of hours before your cruise if you know when you want to book, like a Palo reservation, excursion, or special dinner for formal night or something. Then, if they're not booked up, you can book other times too.
