Hope that Art gets to come home today.

Ave good to see you posting and know that you have some time to relax from the jobs.

Looking forward to seeing Rosemary and Rich this weekend. Everyone have a great day. Mike

Posting from our new laptop! Dell was offering a $750 coupon and Steve took advantage of it! This is NICE! Dell Inspiron, 17" wide screen, bright screen....Steve is a High-Tech Red-Neck, so it has ALL the bells and whistles! I asked if it was cable ready. I would get rid of the TV in the kitchen and put this in it's place. Then I would have the PC/TV all in one place! LOVIN' the wireless too! Well, we are having an overnight guest tonight, so I have chores to do and no time to play! Oh, we are also going to be gone over the weekend. We rented a house in the WV Mountains (Timberline Ski Resort) and Steve's Mom, Dad, Aunt, Brother and family are going to be joining us. Six bedrooms and 4 bathrooms should be big enough for everyone! If I don't get to post tomorrow, ya'll have a great weekend and we'll see you Wednesday! :wave2:

Great news...just got off of the phone with Art and he sounds really good and is just waiting to be discharged (which should take about 3 hours...lol..oh, I forgot, he's not at our hospital....lol!!) Just wanted to share the good news...Prayers and pixie dust worked!!!

Hi papa...good talking to you....couldn't hear the end of our conversation real well and I think that you said "I'll tell Rich and Rosemary hello for you" and I said yes, you too....I'm not totally out of it (ok maybe with the last couple of days of heat I am) but yes, please tell them hello and enjoy your dinner!!

Sam had a test on Monday and he got an 84!! Yeah!!! Mary Jo

So glad to hear that Art is well enough to be leaving the hospital. If someone can pm me his home address I would love to drop him a get well card.

I just reached a new milestone: I am no longer a parent to teenagers!!!!! :cheer2: The youngest of my 4 kids turned 20 today!! :cake:

Guess what? I won the Tour de France competition at our local Y. During my spinning class we learned all sorts of trivia regarding the TdeF and Lance Armstrong as we pretended we were cycling through the various stages. Well, today was our finale and we all received sparkling cider while still on our bikes along with a Live Strong bracelet. Then we took a written trivia test and I got the highest score! I won a copy of his second book which is nice since our Book Club already read the first one. I must have been predestined to win......I was the only one that showed up in a yellow T-shirt!

Michele: have a great trip with the family!
Sam: congrats on receiving such an excellent grade!

Good to hear that Art will return home - I guess AshLee can't wait to see him back home.

Congrats to Sam on the score he reached in his test.

Good job, Jeanne.
We also participated in a Tour de France game in our gym: Each year they hang a plan with all stages to a wall. Each time you do at least 30 minutes of cardio or an aerobic class you let a trainer sign a stage for you. For each stage you get a voucher for a discounted drink, for 7 stages during the TdF you participate in a lottery for same smaller prices and for at least 13 stages done you participate in a drawing for a full set of equipment from the Gerolsteiner Team, the second best German team.
We had a slight disadvantage as we were on vacation during the first week of the Tour, but nevertheless we managed to do 14 stages in the remaining 16 days and thus qualified for being elegible for the Grand Prize. Unfortunately our gym has about 80 branches nationwide so our chances to win are slim.
In spite of the excessive heat we did work out at least 6 days a week during the last three weeks, this week we even did 7 in a row, but tomorrow we will rest.
We had 37°C/99°F today and for tomorrow we expect temps of 40°C/104°F and once again heavy thunderstorms as the warm Mediterranean air we are enjoying now will collide with cold North Atlantic air tomorrow night. We have storm warnings out nationwide, the volunteer fire brigades called in all volunteers to stand by, and everybody is getting ready for it.

Eric: Is your gym air-conditioned? :sunny: I know it's not always a given in Europe. ;)

No,
only the two aerobic rooms and the spinning room have a/c. But the main training area is a hall with a height of about 12 meters/36 feet with remote controlled skylights in the roof and there is a ventilation system. This keeps the inside temp about 6°C/11°F below outside, which is exactly the maximum temperature gap recommended by physicians.

And yes, we Europeans aren't very fond of a/c in buildings. Although about 80% of the cars have it.

Holy,moly....that's a whole lot of sweat! Several weeks ago the A/C was out in the main work-out room and we were all DYING! My girlfriend and I used the aerobic machines, but when it came time to use any of the weight-machines we got grossed out because several inconsiderate people failed to wipe and we just couldn't bring ourselves to use them after seeing that. Do you have better etiquette in Germany?

MaryJo, Only 3 hours! Wow!

Glad to hear Art is going home. Hospital is no place for a sick person. :rotfl:

Eric, Manta Rays were a big surprise for us too. Mark has seen them before, but it was a first for me.

All this exercise talk is making me hungry. :mickeybar

Took the dog (Sandy) to the vet today. He is having some kind of eye infection. Got the bill. It was $262! :scared1: When I got home I took out the bill to review it. It was someone elses bill. Called and got it straightened out. My bill was $136. Not great, but much better.

Got to run. Take care everyone. :wave2:

Yes,
it is a houserule that the weight machines have to be covered with a towel while using them, and the cardio machines have to be wiped clean with a desinfectant after use. Additionally there's cleaning personnel thouroghly wiping down all machines at least once a day, if need arise more often.
And yes, we sweat a lot: Last week I ran 1:47 hours on the treadmill during the Formula One race and lost about 2 kilos (4.4lbs) in that time even though I drank about 1.5 litres during the workout. But that's what go there for ;)

Ave,
please tell the Manta Rays to show up next year September ;)
PixieDust to Sandy. I also got an injured eye: Yesterday I opened a small bottle of sparkling mineral water and due to the excessive heat there was topo much pressure in it. When I lifted the cap it shot up like a champagne cork and hit me right in the left eye pirate: even after cooling it I developed a nice swelling of the upper lid and left of the eye - and of course it hurt like hell. Now I have a black eye and it still hurts a bit.

Eric sorry about the eye. Hope that it gets better soon. I think that here in the local YMCA they have bottles of cleaner on each machine along with towels to wipe them down after every use. Most everyone is very good about cleaning them after use.

Getting ready to play tour guide for Rosemary and Rich tomorrow.

Sorry I havent posted in a long time but we were away on vacation to sunny florida(who visits florida in July?) to see mine and andys family.

Prayers and best wishes to Art - glad to see hes coming home soon.

Congratulations to Sam on the good grade.

Cant wait to see Eric in NY...

Next year if all vacation plans go as I hope we will be back in florida in may and october and myrtle beach in July(again - who goes to hotter temperature zones in the summer) for a family vacation. These are the tentative intentions but we know what happens to all good intentions.

Jeanne - we tried to get tickets to the odd couple but each time I tried to get some everything was already sold out. oh well...

YOWSA! 1:47 Hours? I get tired just thinking about it! :worship:

Welcome back Arlene. Are you watching Amazing Race on the Game Show Network?

Jeanne and Erik--- What cleaver idea with using the Tour de France to give out rewards for working out. I still have not ventured into any of the spinning classes at my gym. They are now free (used to be a small $2.50 charge). They did start a beginner spin class that is only 30 minutes. I was stuck in an excercise rut so have been trying to take some new classes, plus I am trying to lose my 5 summer pounds I collected. I do like the strength building class that I take twice a week. I tried a class that had step and kick boxing. I never liked step and the kick boxing nearly killed me. I was ok while it was a slow pace, but forget it when it speeded up. So am still hunting the perfect excercise class. Until then I using all cardio machines. Our gyms A/C was broke early summer and everyone complained until it was fixed. I guess we are all spoiled, plus there are no windows to open. Most people in my gym are curteous enough to wipe down the equipment after they use it.

Glad to hear that Art is doing well and going home.

Mike and Kathy hope you have a good visit with Rich and Rosemary.

MaryJo--- I read some interesting behind the scences things on AR2. Apparently the reason a lot of people don't like Blake and Paige is that their car broke down on the way to the 2 rd pit stop and he made a big stink about it until they gave him a new car and credit for the time they lost. The team that eventually got eliminated (Norm and Hope) had already arrived at the pit stop. So even though they thought they were safe they weren't. Apparently lawyers from the network were even contacted about what happened and how to handle the situation. So they had to shot again Norm and Hope arriving at the mat and being eliminated. From this came the new rule that if your vechicle breakdown you get a new vechicle but no time credit. I really dislike Will. Still don't have a favorite team.

Back to my real job.

Nancy

Eric: Sorry about the eye.......I can get you an appointment with a good ophthalmologist if you're willing to make the trip. ;)
Arlene: Were you near WDW last week?.....We could have gotten together! What I'd really like to see is "Lennon" but I know the opening keeps getting pushed back. I'm a big fan of Terrance Mann who is on the original soundtrack of Les Mis (Javert) but virtually unknown outside of the Broadway circuit. We've been able to catch most of his major roles and he will be one of the actors portraying John Lennon so we're really hoping to see that one. In fact, when Les Mis closed last year, they invited him back to take over the role of Javert for the final few weeks and we made a special trip just to catch one of the performances. I always tell John not to get me jewels or fancy clothes, just take me to Broadway! There's nothing I love more than theatre!.....except cruising with all of you guys!

Nancy: Where do you get all this interesting stuff on AR. I havent really watched the old AR shows since I already saw them. If there is nothing else on(which is rarely) then i will watch AR.Unfortunetely in my area the channel that AR is on has been moved to another cable channel and in order to watch it you have to have a certain package which I wont have till this sunday.

Jeanne: We did not go near orlando but stayed in Boynton Beach with my in laws and saw my brother in Boca Raton. My nephew who is in the nave and stationed in Hawaii flew into florida with his new bride and a party was held for them to celebrate them. Two of my other siblings and families all went down to see them. That is why we went to florida in july instead of the spring like we like to. No more going to see the inlaws after the cruise since it is too long to be away from home and the cat.

I agree I would prefer Broadway tickets anytime for a gift rather than anything else. Fortunetely we have the luxury of Broadway only being a train ride away. Tried to get wicked tickets but also difficult to get.Oh well....

Arlene: We also have not seen "Wicked"....I thought it would be easier to get tickets now that that Espinosa lady (Medina?) is no longer there. Do you know who took over her role?

No clue. I just heard on the news today that Julia Roberts is going to be on broadway next year. I like her but no real desire to see her on Broadway.
