I try to do the conversions so that the Americans will understand the measurements although I'll admit that Eric does the conversions much better than I do. Metric came to Canada when I was in grade 7 and we had classes in metric -- one class a week, boy was it boring. For some things I 'think' in metric and for others I 'convert' automatically. Our grocery stores here still show meat prices in per kg and per lb! Our measuring cups have both measurements on them as a lot of recipes are still in the imperial measurement. Gas is totally in litres. I can tell you I have a 80 litre gas tank but have no clue what the number of gallons is (and the British gallon is different from the American gallon so it's even more confusing).

I'll agree with Eric - it would be easier if everyone just converted to metric!

Still at work and it's still snowing here.

Fiona

Fiona,

80 litres are 21.14 US gallons or 17.6 Imperial Gallons. A US gallon is 3.785 litres, but I have to admit that I had to look up the correct value for the Imperial gallon: 4,546 litres ;) US to Imperial is 1.201.
Switching a country to metric can be dangerous: Perhaps you remember that Boeing 767 that had to finish a flight as a glider. The pilot thought he had filled her up in kilograms, but unfortunnately it was pounds. So he had less than half the fuel he thought. Fortunately he managed to get her down safely on an abandoned military airfield without any problems. Hollywood even made a nice TV-movie out of this.
And I know what you mean with thinking half metric and half old-fashioned: The Euro replaced the Deutschmark more than three years ago, but from time to time I still find myself converting prices to Deutschmark - Just to make sure I'm not cheated.
In German the power of cars has to be shown in kilowatts instead of hp for more than 20 years now, dealerships may even be fined if the advertise cars with hp values. Nevertheless the average German will always tell you his car's power in hp. HORSEpower sounds so much better than those sterile kilowatts, don't you think so? :earboy2:

We had a light dusting of snow this morning and some black ice. There was a wreck on interstate 40 this am and when the picture was put on the tv it was a Krispy Kreme doughnut truck. Surrounding the accident was 4 police cars and about 6 cops. What is wrong with this picture? Cops and doughnuts :rotfl2: :jumping1: :thewave: Mike

:rotfl2: :teeth:
Must have been cops with bad taste, because cops with good taste would have waited for a Dunkin' Donuts truck :rotfl: Got a picture of this, Mike?

Congratulations to Mary and Jeanne on the sale of their houses. Let the moving begin.

Mary--- Are you also building a new house? I can't remember what you are moving into once you get back to florida.

We are leaving for Pittsburgh this afternoon for the DIII Club Hockey National Championships. DS#2 team place 10th in the country so they qualify for the tournament. Of course it can't be someplace nice (like next year it is in Florida), it has to be in Pittsburgh. So will be off the board for a few days.

Jeanne-- I was wondering how you made out with the snow. Twice with hockey tournaments we were stuck in hotels with blizzards. The hotel was beginning to run out of food. Plus my sons were little 8-10 year olds and it is difficult to entertain 18 little boys for extended periods of times. Running around the halls was the number 1 attraction. Maybe next trip to PA we can get together.

Any one watch Amazing Race last night. I really enjoyed Rob and Amber and found it amuzing how the other teams wanted to eliminate them. The 2 top teams were obsessed with that. They need to worry more about themselves at the beginning of the race and less about what Amber and Rob are doing. Rob and Amber looked really relaxed and just enjoy being there. I did not like the team that finished 1st they were so annoying.

Now, that doesn't surprise me at all...... Krispy Kreme is from NC and we all know how well North Carolinians drive in adverse weather!

PA people: There was a photo in our newspaper today showing the snow in Harrisburg. I'd say we got out of the area just in time!

Arlene: No, I haven't heard anything about the Odd Couple with MB and NL....that would be fantastic! We never did get to see them in "The Producers" since you had to get the tickets so far in advance and we usually travel pretty much spur of the moment. We did however get to see what I would consider the next best thing: It played in LA with Martin Short and Jason Alexander and we were able to catch that one during one of our visits with our son. Which reminds me......AFI is doing a special tribute to George Lucas and they called Adam and asked him to work on it! Don't know when it will air yet, but I'll keep you posted. BTW, if you enjoy theatre, sign on to the NY Times website. They give you advance notice and great discounts on everything that's coming to B'way (including off-B'way). Alot of the things are in preview, but that's OK with us.

The packing is starting to get to me......I dozed off during Amazing Race! I woke up in time for the ending, so at least I know who came in where. None of the couples seem incredibly interesting at this point.

Saw the Amazing Race last night and actually liked Rob and Amber - can't believe I said that. I was actually sorry at who lost because I thought that they could have been an interesting team. It seemed to me though that the first three teams finished way ahead of the other teams and that the other teams didn't stand a chance to catch up to them. I liked the older couple too -- Meridith and Gretchen, I think.

More snow here today. According to the Farmer's Almanac it's supposed to be a really snowy March.

Fiona

I actually like rob/amber also even though I initially didnt like the idea of them being on the show. The other teams are really being mean/snotty to them.I wonder if CBS asked Rob/Amber to be on the show to bring more viewership to the Amazing Race. I also liked the team eliminated..they definetely gave me a few laughs. The older couple is okay although I dont see them winning. The mother/son team could be real annoying and they need to go because of how mean they are to Rob/Amber.

Arlene

Eric, I need your help on something. I'll send you an e-mail to the CF account but wanted to give you a heads up so you check that e-mail :teeth:

Check out your email, Tracy.
What you requested is already in there, I hope there aren't too many typos in it as I hacked in lightspeed into my 'puter ;)

Arlene - Agree with you about the older couple and about the mother/son team. I don't understand why people are people so mean to Amber/Rob when they don't even know them except from TV. I was wondering the same about how they got onto the show -- did they ask to be on the show or did CBS ask them to be on the show.

Also didn't like the guy who kept telling his girlfriend to suck it up -- reminded me of Jonathan from the last race.

Back to work.

Fiona

Okay, gang. I need a how-to. :confused3

I don't like my ticker, because it doesn't count down over 12 months. However, the tickers that do count that far in advance don't have the option of uploading a picture. I'd really like to post the picture.

How do I post a picture into my signature?

Simple, straight-forward instructions, please.

Received a letter from the Veterans Administration today and it contained some good news. I had been exposed to agent orange during my service in Vietnam and I am now eligible to receive a small amount monthly for a service connected disability due to adult onset diabetes. Hey a few more bucks to spend on the cruise.

Kathy has gone to her bosses son funeral tonight. He was 23 years old and his mom found him dead in his bed. He was very obese and a cause of death has not been determined at this time. Mike

Mike,
I wouldn't call having been exposed to Agent Orange good news ;) But I'm glad for you that they at least give you some compensation.

I am SO Bummed :sad2: The offer on the house has been withdrawn. It seems the husband found out his Ex-wife lives next door! While I can understand this reason, I am still upset. At least it was not something about the house that changed their minds!Oh well, something else will come along :teeth: Please send Pixie Dust. Jean I just may need the ST. Joseph after all! ;)
Mike, sorry you were exposed to AO.I hope you do not suffer from any of the health issues connected to it.I also hope the $ is retoactive!!

Mike: Sorry about the exposure to AO. Its great though that you have such a
positive attitude about it...

Mary: What a small world - to find a house and then find out your ex wife
lives next door...sounds like a TV sitcom plot only you dont find out
until you actually move in...

Arlene :cat:

Mary - So sorry about the offer. I guess he didn't know where his ex-wife was living huh?

Still tons of snow here but I don't think we are supposed to get any more today which is nice.

Found out yesterday that none of the partners at work will be there during March Break - week of 14th here. Should be interesting. One of them is actually going to WDW!

Fiona

Mary so sorry about the offer. The only side effect to exposure is TB (two bellies) brought on by a craving for sweets and desserts:banana:. Hope that you get another one real soon. Arlene hope that Andy is over his cold and doing better. Fiona hope that the weather breaks soon for you and it warms up.

Cathy tell Art to not work too hard plowing the snow in the parking lot at school. For extra traction just get some english peas from the school cafeteria to spread on the pavement. In our school cafeteria they were always a little gritty. :cold:
