Hi everyone.

Wow! It's been a long time. My logon says my last visit was on June 6th.

Michele, I hope your foot heals well and in a timely manner. Gotta love the backyard campfires.

Mike, glad to know your a/c unit wasn't as huge an expense as you thought. I remember ours going out on the hottest day of the summer a few years ago. We dropped $1,500 just hours afterward (Tom doesn't do heat well).

Avé & Mary - hang tough, ladies. My maiden name is Dennis, so I'm sure he's going to be a pushover. But my prayers are with you all.

I missed saying goodbye to Eric & Anja--I hope they're having a great holiday.

Denise, your new partner is beautiful. But I'm not familiar with that breed. You said he doesn't look like others that you've seen. What makes him different?

I hope I caught everyone, but I'm not good at taking notes while I read, so if I missed anyone, I'm sorry.

Our big news is---we've moved! I transferred within the company, got a promotion, more $$$. I found out April 15, and moved June 4. It's been a whirlwind few weeks.

But, now we're in the wonderful state capitol of Illinois, and we all seem to be adjusting well. The kids are making some friends, and Heidi has already had friends from up north come visit. School starts July 27th, so hopefully, there will be a lot more opportunities for friendships there. (Yes, Mom is making a friend or two, also.)

We've downsized from an 8-room house with attic & basement, to a 5-room house without the use of the attic or the basement. But, it's just temporary. I'm hoping this time next year, I'll have some bills under control, I'll have some $$ put away, and I'll be ready to buy a house of my own. I think I may be down to 7 or 8 boxes left to unpack. But this is stuff I didn't know where to put in Crystal Lake--so I certainly don't know where to put it here. I brought almost none of my furniture, so I'm gathering pieces little by little.

Not quite single yet--who knows how much longer that'll be dragged out.

We've accepted an offer on the Crystal Lake house. It was on the market all of 3 weeks. We came down from our asking price, but no lower than our pre-determined low. So I'm happy about it. AND the buyer wants to close at the end of July--which means NO MORE MORTGAGE PAYMENTS!!!!

So, things are busy, things are going well. I hope to be on the boards more often.

Love, Marianne

Good to hear from you Marianne. Hope that things continue to go well for you. Eric and Anja should be checking in soon as I think that they were only going to be gone for a week to Vienna.

Rosemary and Rich when you come to town just be careful of all of the construction on the area roads.

Good photo of your new partner Denise. Mike

Good luck to everyone in and around the Florida area.
Glad things are looking up for you, Marianne.
I'm headed up to NJ for my girlfriend's surprise 50th birthday party this evening. It's just a one-nighter, so I hope the storms will not catch up with us until after my return flight tomorrow afternoon.
Less than 2 weeks until our mini-vacation at the Poly!

The Germs are baaaaaack!!!! :wave2:

Will upload some pics later this week. We just returned 30 minutes ago, Anja's unpacking, I hooked up all our gadgets again. When we're abroad only our VCR and the fridge stay connected to mains-travelling to the US even our fridge is unhooked (It's not because of the energy-consumption, it's simple fire-prevention. No power - no danger ;) )
Talking of danger:
We were shocked by the London bombings. One blast took place right under the place we stayed at last year: Between Russel Square and Kings Cross/St. Pancras. And the timing would have made a match for us as we usually left our hotel around that time and used exactly that subway to get downtown :guilty: We saw a lot of footage from the little hotel we stayed at as the police erected a perimeter right in front of it.

OK, gotta watch an episode of Desperate Housewives (The finale of season one) and an episode of our favourite German soap now. Will scan the thread while doing it and post more later.

We L-O-V-E the new doggies!!!!
Pixiedust to Michele & her sons ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Sorry to hear about your a/c, Mike. This could never happen to us: Noc a/c - no bill :rotfl2: Even though we live under the roof (Fourth floor) a couple of fans and clever use of windows and shades combined with proper insulation enable us to keep the inside temp at least 6°C/11°F below outside temp.

Ave & Mary,
we keep our fingers crossed for you and hope that Dennis won't become a Menace.

Glad you had a good time Eric and Anja. Looking forward to the pictures.

We are gardening today (ok so everyone does it in March/April/May) so we are a little slow but neither of us likes it so baseball takes priority. :goodvibes

No excuse this weekend so I'm out weeding weeds that are a tad high. We are also changing things around so hopefully by the end of next summer it will look ok. We are taking out hedges a bit at a time so it's taking a while. We started last summer and are redoing bits each time. A lot of work esp. if you don't like it.

Nancy - I'll come and paint if you want to garden.

Must get back to it. We are putting stones along a path to the pool house at the moment. Bags of stones are heavy.

Fiona

Hey everyone!! Well, it's been quite gray here in central Florida. We've had several very heavy rain bands come through here! Thanks Dennis!! We are under a tornado watch until at least 11pm, and they are calling for the same nasty weather through tomorrow.

Prayers go out to anyone on the northern gulf coast, Ave' & Mary. I think that Dennis is definitely going to be a menace!!!

Eric and Anja...WELCOME HOME! Can't wait to see the photos from your trip!

Fiona...I hate yard work too! Steve works too much to really help me with it. It's got away from me and it's going to take a lot to get it back in shape! The weeds are taking over the flower beds and the bushes just keep GROWING! Now that we have had a bit of rain, the grass looks better and will have to be cut soon. I guess it will just have to wait until I can hobble through it. It's not going to happen this weekend! Although the pixie dust and chocolates ARE helping! :wizard: :mickeybar

Alikat, Ave and Mary...STAY SAFE!! :umbrella: Thinking of you all often and sending pixie dust *~*~*~ and prayers /\ your way! :goodvibes

Hope Hurrican Dennis stays away from all our Florida friends.

Marianne--- Glad to see you posting and that your move went smoothly.

Fionna-- Norm is the gardener in the family. Last weekend he attacked the bushes. We finished all our mulching just 2 weeks ago so you aren't that far behind.

I painted our bedroom today and then with the left over paint did the bathroom downstairs. Now I am offically finished painting. Still need to put the room completely back together, but it is good enough for us to sleep in the room tonight. Need to look for a new comforter.

Norm's company picnic is Sunday at Hersheypark so will be gone most of the day.

Welcome back Eric and Anja.

Off to bed for me.

Nancy

Seems like Dennis will leave our friends in the Panhandle alone. According to the latest forecast it will make landfall somewhere near the AL/MS-border.
Nevertheless having reached letter 'D' this early in the season is IMHO not a very good sign for the rest of teh summer :sad2:

Tracy,
please ask your friends to submit their info to me to show their data on The List.

Happy Birthday to my son Michael and to Art aka Mr, Goofynut. May you both have a wonderful day.   :cheer2: :cheer2: Mike

Welcome back Eric and Anja!
Thanks for all the good weather wishes.

Storm Update: Dennis is now just southwest of us. We are getting very heavy rain and LOTS of wind. Lost power once a few minutes ago, but it came back on. Looks like the "eye" of the storm will miss us. But the folks in Pensacola are still in danger.

Marianne, good to hear from you. Great news about the job and move.

Later,
Avé

Hi gang! Thanks for all the calls and emails. Like Ave said we are doing fine although the wind is picking up quite a bit. You can see local coverage on the web with live steaming video at the following website
www.wmbb.com

So far we still have power, phone and cable!

Don't you get tired in the South fixing all that power- and phonelines again and again. Why don't you bury them once and for all? :confused3
In our evening news they reported windspeeds of up to 180mph :scared1:
We also saw pictures from the Tampa area and hope that Amy & family are well. This one is really scary!!!

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag für Art & Michael Jr  :cheer2: :cake:

Hey Eric & friends - We're doing well here in Tampa. We had a lot of rain & wind yesterday and today. There were some tornados, but none in my area. For now, it's clear, but we may still get some more rain bands through tonight. Chris went out earlier and picked up all the pine & oak branches that were down in our yard. I definitely feel for those up in the panhandle of FL & Alabama.

Good to hear that Dennis didn't cause much harm to you. Keeping our fingers crossed for everyone in the path of the storm.

Hi Everyone!
We made it through the storm! :cool1: No damage to my house or Mary's house. But a lot of people in this area got flooded by the storm surge. And some coastal properties were damaged by the high winds and water.
The real story will come tomorrow, but looks like we did ok as a community.
Feel for the folks west of us. :sad2:
Thanks again for al your thoughts, prayers, and pixie dust. :goodvibes

Boss doc lady is in Orlando, so I'm going to work in the AM at job #2. I'm part of the hurricane relief team. :earboy2:

Goodnight. :grouphug:
