1 photo pass photographer yesterday at DHS :(

We purchased the photo pass plus last summer and found a shortage of photographers but what bothered me more was that I was missing many pictures. :confused3 Granted they were found, but it took about a week and several phone calls. To be honest, I can't help but wonder how many others were lost that I did not remember taking. Anyhow, just thought I'd let you all know to check your pictures daily if you can! We won't be purchasing the memory maker this year. We'll stick to taking our own.

This discussion is giving me a frowny face. :sad1:

I always make it a point to stop and take a picture with every, single photopass photog we come across. It drives my daughter nuts, but we always end up with a ton of amazing pictures. I'm going to be disappointed if we only come across a couple with long lines, especially in the MK, because Dr. Jekyll won't wait in line for anything, let alone a family picture.

when we purchased memory maker in January we had no issues with downloading pictures that night. I noticed a few were missing when we got home, so I made one phone call and she found the pictures in 3 minutes and uploaded them for me. I saw them online with in minutes.

I hate to break it to you but knees/feet cut off is exactly how they're trained. Feet/knees in shot = awkward/bad.

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

Then they are poorly trained. I just googled photography composition and photography framing tips, and here are excerpts from the top results (I did not see one single article that said it was okay to crop at the knee or ankle, not one.):

Animal and people pictures need special consideration when framing in the camera because it’s important to avoid chopping them off at the knees or ankle.

Try not to amputate people’s arms and legs at the elbows, knees, or wrists with the composition! Try and have the edge of the photograph half way between their waist and knees for example. It is more pleasing to the eye and won’t detract from the portrait. Also, avoid cutting off anybody at the shins. Either include their feet, or cut them off mid thigh, or just above the waist, or just below the shoulders.

In further explanation, if a photographer is going to crop below the elbow they need to show the entire arm and hand, the same goes if a photographer is cropping beneath the knee, the feet and toes should show.

Also try not to cut people of at the joints — the bottom of the frame can cut across a person's stomach, but not their knees. It just doesn't look right.

Good to hear. Wish they were able to do that for me. I also had a problem with them issuing my CD after the corrections were made. It took a good month. In general, I just did not have a good experience so my family decided to do without this time around. Maybe in a future visit we'll give it a go.

In all my photography classes, I learned never crop at a joint.
Funniest thing we ever learned, never crop the ears. Mickey would be happy to know that.

Jcemom, I agree that some are not framed the best; however, you can crop and "save as" (so you still have the original) before adding borders to your photos. At least that's how it used to work. For example, the one of your daughter in front of the castle will be great cropped right above the bottom of her shorts.

ETA: Looking at them again...yeah the one with her holding up the Epcot ball would have been better with her feet in the picture. Cropping that higher would lose the effect of her holding up the ball. Seems like simple photography to me. They certainly could be trained better.

LOL, I'm pretty sure we had a few with the top or side of Mickey's ears chopped off. :rotfl:

Yes, thanks, that's what I did! That particular photographer took close up shots also. I happen to like full length shots too though, and we got very few good ones this trip. In general it seemed that the photographers assigned to character meets did a better job than those at the park icons. The princess photos we got this time were nice. Our Minnie and Daisy shots in Fantasyland were also really good.

I've decided not to buy any more Disney photos. I don't ever like the ones that I am in anyway. I just don't like photos of myself. I take better pictures than the Photopass photographers so I will take the pics of DD from now on. I can get in the free Disney Visa photo with Mickey at Epcot. That's good enough for me lol. ;)

Today there seemed to be more photographers than I saw Friday. They all seem to be on Main St though. I counted 6 today. 5 leading up to the castle and one at the statue.

Photpass photographers are NOT trained to cut off legs and feet, that being said, cutting off feet doesn't bother me lol

We haven't been since 2009 at that time they had photographers at most if the deluxe resorts taking pictures in the evening. We have great pics from Poly, GF and WL.

Does Disney still do this or is it some thing else that they have done away with?

Do they have photographers at the Wishes Desert Party and the character breakfast at 1900 Park Fair? Or is there a list of where to find them? Thanks in advance.

My family and I went last summer and purchased the photopass+. We should have stopped at every photographer we saw, but for some reason we didn't. Regardless, we ended up with 130+ photos.

There were tons of photographers out while we were in the parks. Tons. My sister and I stopped at three different photographers by the castle alone (and not just on Main Street. The different angles of the castle) Glad we did! because the first cm's photos weren't so hot.

In any case, maybe it's the season? They might just put less photographers out during their less busy seasons. It was packed when we went, but they were all over.

The dining locations are:

■1900 Park Fare
■‘Ohana (breakfast only)
■Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
■Chef Mickey’s
■Tusker House Restaurant
■Hoop De Doo Musical Revue

As far as I know, they don't have them at the dessert party.

When I was there in Nov at dessert party no photographers, our waitress took a pic for us though.

I am sorry you had a poor experience with Photopass. Hopefully now that they have memory maker they have gotten rid of the glitches that occurred with photopass. Hopefully.

Feet/knees cut off = Bad

I totally agree with you, the composition is of these is terrible. Chopped off feet is a huge pet peeve of mine too. And the pictures are so cute except for the cropping! Why not photo the whole guest and give us the chance to crop it how we want? Thanks for the heads-up, I guess I will have to ask each photog to get our feet in the full-length shots!

This makes me feel better about deciding against memory maker. I was all for doing this but if they do not have enough photographers around than I'm gonna save my $.

Now see, I disagree. It looks to me that if the photographer had backed up enough to get the feet in, he would've had a hard time getting all of Spaceship Earth or the castle in. (For the Goofy one, it looks like he wanted to get the crashed motorcycle on the left in.)
