I figured I should post this since alot of people order flowers for the holidays. I went into the 1-800-flowers store in my town to order flowers for the birth of my twin grandaughters.I picked out a large basket with white roses.Very sturdy basket and a LARGE arrangement. I needed it for that day and spoke to the "flower arranger" in the store as to availability for withing 4 hours. I was told it would be no problem and to pick it up later.
I went back to pick it up and it was nothing like the basket I ordered. When I questioned the clerk he kept insisting that this is what I ordered. I ended up finding the picture again and showing it to him. This basket was the cheapest basket I had ever seen, about 1/2 of the size in the picture and there were about 6 roses and a bunch of filler flowers. When I pointed this out his response was "I'll put some more roses in"! Turns out they didn't have the basket, didn't have the roses, didn't have anything to make the ordered arrangement!! I refused to pay for this and ended up getting a refund. My grip is if I had ordered this by phone or online this really tacky arrangement would have been shipped and I wouldn't have had any idea. The fact that I ordered it in person and was lied to really aggravated me. A letter to the corporate office has not been replied to. BUYER BEWARE!!

Thank you for the tip. I am always iffy when I order things online and knowing if the recipent had gotten what I actually ordered and if it was given in a good condition.
I have friends and family that don't live close to me, so have look on that site before for flowers and gifts.

I've used 1-800-flowers online many times and have never had a problem. The recipient always gets exactly what I ordered. I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

Sorry you had a problem with them. I have used them several times and been very pleased.

What a bummer! :( I got a coupon for them yesterday and was going to send my grandma flowers in her new home. I will think twice about it now. It's annoying you can't count on them.

I too use 1-800-Flowers all the time and love them. I always get raves on the arrangements I send. I am so sorry you had this trouble. I would have been angry too.

My son has used them several times for his wife, myself and other relatives. Each time we have been very, very disappointed. He sent his wife 1 doz roses mixed with lilies and the next day half died! Now for $175 you'd expect more! Last Mother's Day my small vase arrangement consisted of the least expensive flower possibe and some ready to expire, as they were not good quality at all. When I complained to the florist, she replied, 'that's what you get for $75.!!! Just recently he sent me a plant. It came all pkg's nicely and when I opened it, I was in shock as it was all of 5" high! I haven't the heart to tell him, as I know they are gifts from his heart.

Glad to hear some are very happy with their service.

Yep, we've had the same problems too. My sister didn't know how to let the man that sent the flowers know how cheap they were. Maybe he hadn't ordered anything better, kwim? We decided to take a digital pic of her with her new flowers and e-mail it to him with a thank you (he lives out of state). He was really upset but wouldn't tell us how much they had charged him. I then gave him the name of a reputable florist in town.

My boss had his admin send flowers to me in the hospital a few weeks ago. She called 1-800-flowers While I was still in the hospital, they called the admin and told her I wasn't. No one else who sent flowers to the hospital had this problem. She then had them sent to my home. No real biggie, my husband brought them to me, but it was very strange. My boss said he'd told her not to use them since he'd had problems with flowers he'd sent before...

I've used them ALOT in the past and that's what ticks me off. I have no idea if the items that I sent were the quality that I thought and the reciever never said anything. I like the digital picture in an e-mail suggestion as a thank you.

I used them twice with bad results.

First time my aunt had a stroke and I sent her flowers in the hospital, I had told my mom that I ordered them. After my aunt went home, over a week later, I asked my mom (who was with her every day, and took care of her at home) if she liked the flowers I sent. My mom said "what flowers?" I called 1-800 and they said they were delivered...

Okay, so I didn't learn, I thought maybe a nurse put them in the wrong room or something so I ordered from them again...

I got a call at work from a former co-workers girl friend telling me that he had been battling melanoma that developed into other forms of cancer and he was about to loose his fight, at 34 yrs old. He had moved a few states away and there was no way I could get off from work and get there in time. I mentioned it to other co-workers and we decided to chip in and send a HUGE floral piece telling him we were thinking of him and signed all of our names to it...all 15 of us. It was early in the day and when I called I specifically requested that the arrangement (no specification for any type of flowers) be delivered the same day. I double checked at the end of the conversation as well that they would be delivered TODAY. Yes, all is fine.

Three days later the girlfriend called and said he was gone. I felt very good that at least at the end he knew his friends loved him and cared about him...WRONG. 1-800 called me the next morning to say they were at the hospital and no such patient was registered there. This was 4 days after I placed the order! I told them of course he wasn't there, he'd passed the day before. I was livid! The operater then had the nerve to say, well would you like these flowers delivered to the service! I told them no way, I want my money back and I want an apology. Got my money back, no apology.

I now use www.ftd.com and they are terrific.

Sorry to hear you've had bad luck with 1-800 flowers.

I have had good and bad with 1-800-flowers. If I had them sent to my MIL in Maine they would arrive dead since Fed Ex didn't make daily delivieries there. It took three deliveries and she wasn't afraid to call and give them a piece of her mind.

My mother on the other hand I've had good luck in the delivery in Mass. Though I don't think the flowers last a long as they should. They have arrived when promised.

I have been using www.ftd.com. They come a local florist in the area so that is nice and you know they arrive fresh and will last longer. I will probably continue using www.ftd.com.

I once looked into sending flowers from 1-800-flowers. As I looked at pictures of flowers on the bottom of one of the web pages it said in more technical terms that what you see is not always what you get! If the florist doesn't have the right flowers or container they have the right to substitute different flowers or containers as long as they are of equal value. Five carnations might cost as much as one rose but that doesn't mean that I was to send someone 60 carnations instead of a dozen roses!

I agree with other posters--use ftd.com or a local florist.

I have used them once. Won't use them again.

I have been sending a lot of flowers lately to my grandmother, who is dying. You know, Grandparents' Day, Thanksgiving, her birthday, whatever excuse I can find. I have used FTD.com and she has always been very happy with what she has received. I toyed with the idea of using 1800flowers once and am now glad that I didn't.

Thank you for posting this. Some of these stories are just unbelievable.
