1/17/09 Magic anyone???

You will see a few tuxes onboard but mostly men in suits.....same with long gowns some but mostly cocktail lenth dresses or pantsuits....if I fit in any of my long dresses I would wear one but alas, I'll be wearing black pants and a gold top on Formal night and on semi-formal, the same pants and a different blouse!! Actually for formal night I will be wearing the same top as in my pic below!! Really as long as you don't look you rolled out of bed you should be fine!!! It is not a snooty atmosphere at all. Very fun and festive!!! Plus, free cocktails during the Captain Cocktail party in the atrium. It will be listed in the Navigator.

I would say easily 75% or more of the ship dresses up for formal night. Your girls will not feel out of place at all!!! It is so lovely to be in the atrium that night and see everyone dressed up, especially the little kids...they look adorable. In 16 DCL cruises I have always seen the majority of people dressed up for formal night.

Thanks a bunch !! :goodvibes They will be thrilled. My 9 year old is so tickled that her dress twirls when she spins around. It's funny because she is usually not the one that likes to dress up. 95% of the time she doesn't even care if she matches.

What kind of camera did you all get for the holidays???? Since we are on camera topic.....here is a link to another thread about the Olympus underwater digital cameras.....I got one from hubby for our anniversary this past Sept. and I took on our Eastern Magic cruise this past October.....

We bought the Pentax Optio W60. I spent days comparing the Olympus and the Pentax and they seemed to be almost equal but I ended up picking the Pentax. I can't wait to try it out. As soon as it came in the mail I dunked it in the fish tank just to get the whole "putting a digital camera under the water" thing out of my system.

Did everyone book their cruise themselves or use a travel agent? We used MEI/Mousefan travel (recommended by Allears). Our agent is Coleen Bolton. She does a great job. Going on the cruise is the only time I use a TA. I am a DVC member and do all my travel stuff myself.

I've never used a travel agent before, but this time I had a friend who just started as a travel agent so I wanted to send some business her way (and also get an onboard credit). So I let her do my reservation. So far so good! She even did all my booking while she was vacationing in Disney World.

Are most of you dressing up for formal night? I've been reading that a lot of people don't dress up even for formal night. My girls were excited to shop for a special dress to wear on the ship. I just don't want them to feel like they are overdressed. We don't have full length prom gowns, just the normal length "social" dresses and I've got my hubby in a suit (he hates to dress up).

I can't believe I am so last-minute on all of this. So far I got a suit for my 7 year old son, a fancy dress for my 5 year old daughter, a somewhat fancy dress for myself, and we haven't quite figured out what the husband will wear yet. He got a nice suit, but we can't decide if it should be for formal night or semi formal night.

I have no idea what I am wearing on semi-formal night. I'm gonna try and pull something together from my closet. My daughter already has a dress. My husband has enough stuff that he can pull something together. And I don't know about my son yet.

Wow I really need to get going on this shopping business. :scared1:

I was wondering something the other day. Is it bad to share stateroom numbers on these threads? No one has really mentioned their stateroom number yet so I wasn't sure if that was frowned on around here. I was just curious if any of you would end up being my ship neighbors.

Oh---and after the cruise we were planning to just drive the 10 hours straight home that same day. But now Disney's come out with these unbelievable military promotions and we don't have school until Tuesday so I could technically spend 2 days in WDW after the cruise. So I'm trying to talk the husband into it lol.

Here is a link to my webshots page that has a ton of our past DCL cruises on it....the first one on the list is from this past October's Eastern DCL cruise.

Hey, great pics !! When did they put Minnie underwater? We've only been on 1 4-day cruise with Disney and that was in 2006. They only had the sunken Mickey then. Only 12 more days :yay: I can hardly contain myself.

I have been on these boards for years and I often see stateroom numbers listed...it is more of a personal preference if you want to share yours or not. I have seen cruise meet threads where whoever wanted gave out their cabin number and a list was made for everyone...it is all your level of comfort. I can tell you I have not heard of any incidents happening due to someone giving out their cabin number. I don't have my cabin number yet.

Your hubby can wear the same suit for both formal and semi-formal...that is we do. I do pack another dress shirt and tie to go with but it, but he wears the same suit. For Palo he wears dockers and a dress shirt.

Funny, we I first got my camera it was in the fall but we had not yet closed our pool up....I waited until mid-day when the sun was high and jumped in with the camera....I was freezing but wanted to try it out!!!

I believe it was fairly recent...they told us they switched out Minnie for Mickey....not sure when Mickey will be back....

Yeah that's true. He already has multiple ties and shirts. So maybe he can just do that.

Well, my room is 7548 if anyone is near me and wants to share.

Do any of you know a good time to get the professional family portraits done? On our last cruise (Wonder) it seemed like the lines were always so long we never bothered with it. Are the lines ever short? We really want some nice pictures of us all dressed up.

Lines are usually steady all night but it takes some planning but the best time is when they first open (usually before the early seating). Keep looking at your daily navigator for exact times. The lines do move quickly....though, if that is any help and the results are so worth it!!! Some of our best (and only) family portraits are on formal night!!!

Was trying to get my kids to come on this cruise but all their college/work schedules got in the way.....hubby can't get vacation in January so my cousin will be traveling with me. Our kids pretty much grew up on DCL and still love to cruise but do prefer the nightlife now on other lines.....sorry to leave them behind but mom needs a Disney fix!!! They understand my addiction

Here is a pic from a family cruise on Carnival back in 2005.

For all those with kids that will attend the Kids clubs. There is a ceremony near the last days of the cruise in the Theater. Here are some pics:

For all you cruise veterans, I just went on line to see what cabins they are still booking. When I pulled up our cruise it said you can still book in all categories (4 - 12).

Common sense would mean that our cruise isn't fully sold out. Is it possible that the shipping will be relatively empty? What does this mean?

Sorry, but I'm in full scale anal retentive vacation mode right now. If it doesn't have to do with the vacation, I can't concentrate on it. That includes work!!:rotfl2:
It better get here soon!!!!

I'm having the same problem! I am at work and can't concentrate ... I'm paranoid about my flights getting out and missing part of my vacation ... all I can think about! At least 2 weeks from now we'll all be relaxing on the ship! YAY!!! :dance3:

:

Less lines in the buffet, shorter lines for photos...better seats at the theatre....available loungers by the pool....one can hope!!! it really does not make that much difference. I have sailed full and not so full. Once I heard that they had to combine the two dining times to fill the dining rooms as they did not have enough people for both seatings....but that was due to a hurricane and people could not get to the ship.

In regards to availability:
I checked and it showed some specific rooms for Cat 7's, 5's, and 4's but the rest were now showing as GTY. I would assume this means that they are down to a low number if any of those categories left. It may not be a complete sell out but it will probably be very close.

Lines for photos:
Somehow we found a great time to get pictures on formal night...I just don't remember when. One thing to note is that they set up in multiple locations. We found one just outside the promenade lounge. Not sure if they are doing that anymore since they have the photopass kiosks now.

Wow a lot of topics getting thrown around.

The last cruise we were on someone set up a web site (I am not that computer literate) and listed all the vital info-kind of like what was done here. Anyways, my stateroom (as I have said before I think) is 8548. Not a big deal.

Formal and semi-formal...whoever brought this up should be ashamed of themselves (only kidding). Because this is one of those topics that get really heated in forums. Everyone has an opinion. My opinion, and it is mine and I don't hate you if you don't agree, is that everyone should make somewhat of an attempt to dress up. I won't get into the argument pro or con but will tell you that we enjoy dressing up as a family. So, we (DS and I) will be in tuxes and the ladies (DW and DD) will be in dresses/gowns (whatever it is that you women wear (LOL).

As for cruise availability, the DCL web site is still showing they are selling all categories except for Cat 7's. Granted that may only be the 8 rooms they have available. But, things are still available with less than 2 weeks to go.

Everything is about the cruise here too. We were very excited today because my daughter, who broke her wrist 3 weeks ago, was able to get her cast off. The wrist is still a little sore but the Dr. said the break, really a buckle of the wrist bone, was healed. So, we are anxious to get there.

Gee - thanks for the help! :lmao: (I kid)

Anyways, my stateroom (as I have said before I think) is 8548. Not a big deal.

Is that directly above 7548? If so, we're right under you. So I don't want any horseplay up there!

Oooh just looked at the map. 8548 is a little further down. Guess I'll be below someone else!

Gee - thanks for the help! :lmao: (I kid)

I'm good at that :)

I believe what we did was skip the show and went during the show. the more I think about the more I am sure that is what happened. Since it was the Golden Mickeys and we had just seen it 6 months prior we skipped it. Everyone was either in the show or at dinner so we walked right up and got pictures taken.

I can't believe we'll be leaving in a little over a week. The last thing we have to do is get some cash out (doing that today) and get our clothes from the dry cleaners. Well, and then pack I guess. That would probably help. :)

Our day of departure (next Thursday) is finally on the 10 day weather forecast so now I can watch it and start figuring out what to actually pack/wear!

Jim

It is time to go now? I leave a week from today, but it feels like this will be the longest week EVER!

I'm trying to find travel sized detergent ... any suggestions where to look? Apparently they don't sell it at costco ... kidding. Anyway, I'm going to check one more place and if they don't have it I'm just going to spring for buying it when we do it. I'm spending more time/gas trying to find it than the actual amount I'd be saving.

Well, we're having the kids wear their new sandals in the house to get them worn in, and trying to get them to stay up a bit later to get their clocks changed a bit! Any other suggestions?
