Happy 4th Everyone!
I am volunteering as an usher on the evening of 4th at a performance of "Julius Caesar" performed by a company known as 'Shakespeare on the Sound'. Every summer they perform live, free (although donations are gratefully accepted) and under the stars. "The Sound" is Long Island Sound, a body of water between CT and Long Island. I am a member of the town advisory board for SOTS and figured the night they would need the most help would be the holiday. Now we just have to keep the lightning and thunder away (except perhaps, when Caesar "gets it").![]()
Enjoy the weekend!
Here's a thought since we have a holiday weekend ahead of us and might get to spend a little more time online. Who knows we might even get the lurkers to join in.
Disney Inspirations
The theme of our cruise, but what does it mean to you personally? Have you ever been inspiried by anything Disney? Have a very special memory that involves Disney? Let's all get to know each other just a little bit better and share our stories.
Mary, that is so sweet. I am sure you and Mark miss her dearly.Mandy - I think that is a great story and just what I was thinking of. In fact it reminds me of one (and not the one I was going to tell).
Your words about giving your kids special memories. I'll never forget the first time I went to WDW. It was 1976 and I went with my Mom. I was just out of high school and working at my first job. We booked a package through Walt Disney Travel and stayed at the Howard Johnsons in what is now known as the Downtown Disney area. A little back story first. I was born in 1957 (yes you can all quit counting I'm 51). Disneyland opened in 1955. My Dad was out of the picture in my first year and I never met him.
So fast forward to 1976 and we arrive at the Magic Kingdom (the only part of WDW at that time). As we are walking down Main Street my Mom starts crying. I ask her why. She replies that back when I was a baby and she would see Disneyland on TV she never though that she as a single parent would ever be able to experience it or go with either of her kids. They were tears of joy and she had such a good time on that trip. We had many wonderful trips together. In fact we had a trip to the Poly booked in 1997. It was going to be the three of us (me, Mom and Mark). Sadly a month before we were to leave she was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. We had to cancel that trip and she never made it back. However before we lost her we bought her a brick and it is on the walkway at the Poly between the hotel and the Luau.
Thanks to Mom we were able to afford DVC. I know she would approve. My only regret is that she never got to experience DCL. We cruised together a number of times and she loved cruising. I know she really would have loved DCL.
