09/08/07 Early Check in September 8, 2007 Western

So in a week I will sitting in the Disney Cruise Line terminal patiently waiting to board.;) Let's just say not so patiently waiting.

Can't wait to get on board. I have 3 days off, 3 days at work and I am outta here.

I gotta figure out when I am packing, and what. Just a heads up I do not like packing one bit. I still have to purchase some things so I have enough clothing and things.

Have a great week.

People travel without cell phones?

Got lots of serious illness in my immediate family right now, I don't even use a cell phone, but I am bringing a tracfone and my laptop.
DH tells me today that he doesn't feel good.
Send some PD so that I don't have to use them.

To all my future cruisemates -

It is shortly after 1400 this afternnon, Saturday September 1st. Donita and I are off to 1 of my favorite casual seafood restaurants, Grills. It just so happens that the restaurant is on Port Canaveral. We will be there as the ship is pulling out (almost sounds like I planned this, doesn't it).

My thoughts are that I will wave good-bye to the ship for all of us as next week we will be the ones onboard.

Just a tad excited.

Hope all is well-

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum. My family and I will also be on this cruise. It is myself, DH, DD 9, and DS 2. This will be our 1st cruise and MY 1st time flying. We are a younger family and I'm worried about fitting in with everyone. Everyone seems to be so friendly on here, is it pretty much the same on board? BTW, I'm assuming that DH,DD and DS stand for Disney husband, daughter and son, am I right?

Welcome to the group! I'm confident that you will all have a great time. We are a group that is both young & young at heart, with kids & without kids. Be sure to meet with us at 3 PM on Saturday on the Mickey Pool deck where we all will be introducing ourselves to each other.

Welcome to the cruise!!!
No one is too young or too old for this group!
You'll have a great time on this cruise, ask questions if you have them. There are plenty of Disers to answer them.

Welcome again...

WELCOME TO DIS.. ONE WEEK TIL....

Welcome to the newcomers to Disboards!! :wizard: We are all very excited about our impending departure from reality and arrival into the world of magic! :wizard:

One week...I can't stand it anymore. I'm so excited. All I talk about is my cruise.

Actually, the conversation about traveling without your cell phone; we are only bringing one cell phone for emergency. After checking with our carrier, it is very expensive for international roaming (we don't have an international plan...just nation). Therefore, we are bringing our walkie talkies to keep in contact with the kids while they are doing there thing and we are doing ours. I also just sprung on my boss that I will not have my cell phone with me. He was a bit freaked. I did tell him that I would be buying internet minutes so I would check my e-mails at least three times a day. He seemed pacified with that. :)

I am almost finished packing my suitcase. Have some ironing to do for hubby's, then he'll be packed too. The kids will be next. Have to go shopping tomorrow because DD12 needs a few things yet.

I've got a pretty busy schedule this week, and hopefully can check in here at least once a day. SgtSlovak, you picked up the ball for Lois with the newcomers! Cudo's to you!!

Newbies, don't worry about your age; we are all friendly and love young and old. We are a group where everyone is welcome. ;)

Okay, I gotta get up early tomorrow; DD15 has a double header softball game in the morning at 9:00 a.m. :scared1: I'm not a morning person!

Get ready....get set.....(go Saturday 9/8/07!) :cool1:

Yes, DD means Disney Daughter, DS Disney Son and DH Disney Husband , and of course DW Disney Wife. DP means Disney Partner. Anything that starts with a capital D means Disney.
Sorry, that was for the new people ladyemmaann! I know you know what they all mean!

Less than one week and now I am thinking of all these questions. Our DD (2) is not old enough to go to the kid's activities. I have been looking at the information for Flounder's Reef. Everything I read says to make reservations early. Has anyone used it before?
Since we don't know when some of the activities on ship that my DH and I might want to do (for example, wine tasting), how can we book Flounder's in advance? Will it really be that difficult to book? If we can't get her into Flounder's, is it okay to bring her along? Will the Navigator say when an activity is strictly adults only?

Study this dialog and be ready to recite it to the CM when you board:

CM : What is your family name?

You: Je5

CM: Welcome the Je5 family (wild applause follows!)

You: Thank you. When can I sign up for time at Flounders and where is it?

You board on deck 3, it's on deck 5 port side (on left if onboard facing forward, slightly rear fo ship center). They will probably not have sign ups until around 3 or so, but there will be a line...

That said, it's not really that bad. Here's the scoop. You can reserve time at Flounders 3 times up to 4 (maybe 6 hours each) - you may be able to reserve more depending on demand. There is also a fee, maybe $6/hour??
The specifics may have changed (it's been 4-5 years since we've used them).

You can pretty much take your small child (all children for that matter) pretty much anywhere except: the adults only area/pool on 9 forward, and Rt 66 (did I get the right ship?) after 9p when the subject matter becomes a bit more "mature" at times.

I can't think of any specific times/events that you would want to schedule for, but it's been a while for me... Maybe a dinner, time for a show? Everything's pretty much geared for kids of all ages.:yay:

Don't fret about it. I don't mean to scare you about this (I tend to be a bit retentive about scheduling and planning...) but you will want to schedule early for any "kid free" time :woohoo:

A quick note of cell phones. International charges will be applied to your phone even if it is in the room safe.

Last cruise I had just received a new phone/carrier and i had been fooling with the features, shoved it in the safe when we left coverage area :yay: :yay:

Found out later that someone tried to call while we were at some so carr island, the phone received the call and frowarded the call to VM. Result? Intl charge ding on my bill. It was only $3 0r $6 no big deal, but a learning experience!! Now, unless I'm expecting a call, I turn the silly thing off.

I have heard that there is some kind of relay on the ships now? Anyone know what the carrier is? Coverage & costs?

Ray

does anyone know if we have to bring our own beach towels for off site excursions? this will be the first time we will be taking a non dcl excursion (moby tick tours in g.c.) so i need to know if i have to pack them.

welcome newcomers to the post. if you are interested in having your child email other youngsters on the cruise then pm the primary person listed on lois's roster (grandma4ever). i find that the dis boards are a great way to meet new friends before you even get on the ship!!
