04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

We are also flying on the 27th, we will get to lax at 9:30 am, and we are flying with Disney all the way. 6 more work days till vacation.

We don't get to LAX until 12:30 you got better connections that we did.

Butchart Gardens on your own:

Is this doable in a taxi from the ship? Any idea on the cost? (4-5 People).

.

Seems like it would be pricey to me.

Cab rates in Victoria:
* $3.30 Start rate (Flag) for the first 52.04metres
* $1.92 for each additional kilometre
* $41.39 Stopping/waiting time (per hour)

Butchart Gardens is roughly 23 km from Victoria. (30 min drive).

what time are you all planning on getting onto the ship? what is the earliest we can get onboard? thanx in advance! :flower:

i'm asking on behalf of my dsil (who is not on the disboards), and she was asking...so i hope someone can help me, so i can relay the message to her. this will be her very first disney cruise. she is excited, yet overwhelmed w/all this "planning" that i've told her she needed to do! :rotfl:

Has far as I know, it's the standard "sometime between noon and 1:00pm".

I agree that the taxi cost may be prohibitive (although with 4-5 people sharing it might work out). My last taxi ride to the airport (which is roughly comparable) was $60 (Canadian) one way, it is probably more than that now.

An alternative is to catch the Gray Line tour from the Empress. Tour is 3 hours and they have 10am and 2pm departures (the 2pm departure would be pushing it to return to the ship though). Cost is $56 per adult and includes admission to the gardens.

The Gray line wouldn't work for us as the 10AM is before docking time and we wanted to do a noon tea. So, 'on our own' with Garden admission, tea and taxi round trip (split 4 ways) is looking to be about $90. The DCL excursion is $124 and you get a bit of a 'tour' on the way up and tea time would fall more about the 2:00PM range

.....decisions....decisions.......

another day closer to the trip!

My girls excitement is growing. They made pirate eyepatches for their dolls today :goodvibes

For those flying Southwest ... you might consider rechecking airfare on Southwest.com. We found out our airfare had dropped by $60 to $70 per person (one way), on a $160 fare (PHL to LAX). This sounded too good to be true ... but is in fact, FOR REAL! The only thing I can think, is that Southwest encountered cancelations over the 737 groundings. No matter ... a $60 to $70 reduction over a HOLIDAY is unheard of!

Disclaimer: Southwest does NOT charge change fees ... nor do they issue refunds. Southwest WILL give you a CREDIT towards a future flight, provided you FLY within one year of your original BOOKING date (time for another cruise!). Your results may vary. Enjoy!

Are you sure you can't clear your schedule? It would be so much fun!

My email has been overflowing with comments about my inability to *stand in* for Prince William, for a ceremony on the Wonder. Accordingly, it's time I spill the beans. You see, I have been asked to act as a guide for a NEWBIE DCL cruiser, who will be occupying one of the Suites. I am not exactly sure of the name of the newbie ... but it is some LADY named KATE ... from MIDDLETON, (I think that's in Delaware). For some reason, she's catching a read eye / flight from London, to LA. No further explanation has been given.

I'm wondering where I can see the "kid list" for our cruise??? our kiddos - Willie 11 and Molly 13 will be looking for fun and friends - anyone in this age range???

Our DD is 12 going on 30. She is looking forward to meeting some new friends. See you on board.

We are at the Crown Plaza.

Might see ya there I am pretty easy to spot, look for the guy with all kinds of fish tattoos on his right leg. And do not hesitate to walk up and say hi.

I think we will be there about 2:30 or so.

We get in Tuesday night and are staying at one of the Holiday Inns near LAX, then catching Disney transportation to the port-this ended up being cheaper than getting out to Disneyland and taking the bus with others. One day closer to cruising!!!!

We are - but late to arrive - our flight gets in after 9pm at LAX -

I'm a night owl - are you thinking mini-pre-meet or shuttle over together really early?

We may see you in the AM, looking at probably a 9am shuttle to the port (we'd rather hang around the port with friends than the hotel).

The Westin Hotel in Long Beach. That's where I have been told I am staying. :scared1:

I am a rider, not a driver, so we will see where we end up. It is always an adventure with Michael. He said "first stop.......liquor store". Maybe I will be the driver after all!

Linda - get Michael to the port safely! We will see you there!

We are at the Crown Plaza.

As Scott posted, maybe we can meet up for dinner or the shuttle to the port, I am sure he will go for the 9am or earlier shuttle.

Just a quick note to let y'all know that Vancouver Shuttle operates motorcoaches from Canada Place to YVR (Vancouver airport), for just $14 per person. Operating in similar fashion to the Disney Cruise shuttle (Port Canaveral to Orlando airport), they have shuttle busses departing approxmately every 20 minutes or so, from 8AM until 10:30AM ... then, (I believe), a little longer in between thereafter.

Their website provides slightly different information, indicating fixed departures on the half hour or on the hour. For $14 (cash only if paid in person), Vancouver Shuttle will pick you up from the Disney Wonder, and take you to theVancouver airport (YVR). If you would like to reserve a seat on the motorcoach, you can prepay online at VancouverShuttle.ca (they will charge your credit card, and you can print your receipt). When reserving a seat (via their website), the only options are for 8Am or 10:30AM seatings ... but that is not accurate (pick either time ... and just show up when you get off the ship).

After you disembark the ship ... go through customs ... watch for the signs for BUSSES / LIMO's, then TURN LEFT. Walk to the end ... looking for the RED BOOTH. If you need to reach Vancouver Shuttle ... call 604-841-2121 (Canada) or 888-941-2121 (US).
