04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Okay... this is completely off topic.

It's April 18th and there is SNOW here. SNOW as in that nasty cold white stuff that comes out of the sky... 2 inches of it on my deck.

GET ME OUT OF HERE!

Ohhh, Disney arranged for that ... trying to either:
a) Get you in the mood for Alaska, or
b) Make you appreciate the WARMER weather in Alaska

:thumbsup2

I suppose that you don't want to know that it 80 degrees here already, not a cloud in the sky. Something tells me I will be missing my normal spring weather on the cruise.

Just a quick note to let y'all know that Vancouver Shuttle operates motorcoaches from Canada Place to YVR (Vancouver airport), for just $14 per person. Operating in similar fashion to the Disney Cruise shuttle (Port Canaveral to Orlando airport), they have shuttle busses departing approxmately every 20 minutes or so, from 8AM until 10:30AM ... then, (I believe), a little longer in between thereafter.

Their website provides slightly different information, indicating fixed departures on the half hour or on the hour. For $14 (cash only if paid in person), Vancouver Shuttle will pick you up from the Disney Wonder, and take you to theVancouver airport (YVR). If you would like to reserve a seat on the motorcoach, you can prepay online at VancouverShuttle.ca (they will charge your credit card, and you can print your receipt). When reserving a seat (via their website), the only options are for 8Am or 10:30AM seatings ... but that is not accurate (pick either time ... and just show up when you get off the ship).

After you disembark the ship ... go through customs ... watch for the signs for BUSSES / LIMO's, then TURN LEFT. Walk to the end ... looking for the RED BOOTH. If you need to reach Vancouver Shuttle ... call 604-841-2121 (Canada) or 888-941-2121 (US).

Steven... I've added this to our Page One, and also to the... guess where... the MEGA LIST! :rotfl2:

Also accessible from our Page One.

Yup.. don't want to know that. I'm putting my fingers in my ears and singing. 'La la la la' Not listening.
Even in Michigan this is goofy. April 9th was over 80 degrees, and today is the 18th and we have inches of snow. YUCK.

Hope you are having fun! We are in the upper 70's today. It was a wild weekend here with the tornados- we missed the brunt of the storms, but the eastern part of the state was hit hard. One passed about 15 miles from us and there was a lot of damage. I'll take snow anyday over those storms. Is anybody having as difficult time as I am packing for the weather? It's driving me crazy! We leave on Sunday and I have been staring at my closet since Saturday:confused3. I guess that I will figure it out..........

And an hour ago it was 99! The pool will be open when we get back, the water is already 76. I am forever thanlful that we live in an area that so far has not had any sever weather, at least not in the 3 years I have been here. No snow in at least 20 years, no monsoons. Judt glorious heat heat heat!

We just got rain from the last storms, but we might get some more snow later in the week. Pixie Dust to all those effected by the tornados!

YEA we finally started packing last night. I thougth I better get my act together since I cooking Easter dinner with 14 of us!:scared1:
Told DH he needed to pick out the shirts that I need to iron ASAP and he is still working on the Alaska cruise FE gifts.
For all you who are fortunate enought to leave for LA early have a safe trip and we will see you on the ship. Sue

Well we leave in less than 72 hours...and we are in full on packing and prep mode. Our spare bedroom is piled high with stuff we want to pack----1/3 of it will probably not come, but we'll see. Our bird (Noble Macaw---a small species of parrot) got groomed and picked up for boarding today and tmw we get the keys and directions to the Cat/House/Fish-sitter (she can't also watch the bird, Sarabi, because she is too high maintenance and not very friendly towards women). We're a little nervous because one of our fish extender goodies has not arrived. It's in transit so we're cutting it pretty close! All our other fish extender gifts and magnets for both cruises are done and packed...as is our fish extender. Pirate costumes and tuxes are packed. Have to go through our boardgames and decide what we're bringing (we're not really night club people, so you'll frequently find us at a table somewhere playing cards or games....so feel free to join in!! :thumbsup2). The easy stuff to pack is set out and ready---underwear, socks, shoes.....the actual CLOTHES are a lot harder to decide upon since we're going to hit so many different climates. And then there's the issue of coats.....we are really strongly leaning towards NOT bringing our winter coats. We're used to weather in the 40's this time of year and can survive in layers and so we're thinking we might try to do that for this trip. I mean, how much time will we really be spending outside anyway? Are we nuts? Our winter jackets are just so heavy and bulky and we don't really want to travel with them or pack them!

I go to the nightclub, but every now and then I like a boardgame, so if I see you I'll join in if your playing cards:goodvibes

I have packed my big coat and unpacked it more times than I care to admit! Looking at the weather in Alaska, it appears to be 30's-50's. That's not giant coat weather to me...I may regret it, but figure that will just give me an excuse to buy a DCL hoodie or something! Right now, I just don't think I want to deal with it.

Thank goodness we're not the only ones then! We like to ice skate on both indoor and outdoor rinks and so we have these "under armour" turtleneck shirts with long sleeves that insulate pretty well and wick moisture off your body. We are thinking we can wear that, under a thermal shirt under a sweatshirt/hoodie with a jacket...adn then gloves, hat and scarf if we need. We've been wearing less here at home the past week and it's the same temperatures here in rochester as it is in Alaska right now about----and it did snow here Sunday AND Monday, as well!!:scared1::scared1: So we're gonna go for broke and hope that with enough layers we'll be fine without big winter coats that take up precious room in our bags (and we HATE flying in those damn coats!)

I know how you feel! We had snow here yesterday too! I went for a walk this morning with my DD and wore my winter coat...it was cold :cold:

I am not packing my winter coat either, hoping layering will work :thumbsup2

So sorry. We also had snow on the pass when we traveled this weekend, but it was 60's and sunny here. Here's the Anaheim forcast - looking better - http://www.accuweather.com/us/ca/anaheim/92801/forecast-month.asp

Of course - Disney always brings the magic!:rotfl2:

I don't think you'll need a heavy coat like you would need in NY. I think your under armor and layers will work great. We decided the same for SF and BC as needed. We are bringing lightweight waterproof jackets that we can layer and fold up pretty tightly. We're all packed!:yay::yay::yay:

Have a great time at DLR!

Okay... I've bounced all over this ship like a tigger. DH & I decided we wanted some natural light, so we are going to surprise DD... hopefully she won't find out until we open the door to the room...

We paid for an upgrade to 1032. We are no longer in 2519. We hated to spend the money, but I'm worried about jet lag and not knowing what time of day it is.

Sorry this messes up the rosters! I will really try to stay put now.

Sounds like a fun surprise, Laura:thumbsup2
Hopefully you will update your FE roster for us :)

I want to move to where you are - where is it???

Arizona, in the Sonora Desert. Which means I do not have a winter coat. I had one for the 5 years I lived in NH between last AZ and this AZ tour, but I donated it and a few others that I had to my Realtor for the winter coat drive. As I am only doing the repo, a zip up hoodie is going t have to do. I will bring a pair of tennis shoes and some socks for walking in Victoria, but I am not going nuts over the weather, I was in Alaska in September, they had already had termination dust, I wore a turtle neck and a sweater over and in Ketchican I wore my fur lined leather jacket, gloves, and ear muffs. Only in the morning. The rest of the time was no outerwear needed. But if it doesn't take up a lot of room, maybe it is better to have it and not need it than not have it and freeze your butt off, if that would only work. I can't believe it, but I did pack almost everything I need today. The remains will go in on Tuesday.
