04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

I got in right away only to find both brunch and tea completely booked.

So how does it work for west coast cruises? Do they let you make onboard reservations when you board as they have done for Wonder cruises out of Florida, or do they open reservations at a set time as they do for Magic cruises from Florida?

Yes, they hold back spot for folks that can't get on line. You will want to head to WaveBands as soon as you get on the ship. And even if they are booked up by the time you get there, ask to be put on a wait list! For all the fuss about getting the reservations, it's amazing how some folks change their mind during the cruise because the don't feel like getting cleaned up or their reservation conflicts with other shipboard activities.

On the 2 day they just did this past weekend, Wavebands opened as soon as they started letting people on the ship.

.

What time(s) is main dining on Wonder?
Pardon me for not knowing but we've only had late dining all our cruises (and the most recent ones were concierge and we only ate in our room). We're confirmed main dining- so what time will that mean we'll have dinner and what time show? Trying to book rasul and not sure what time to book it. I don't know why I didn't think about this before now....

And what day is formal night?

I wasn't after Palo, so I'm happy to report I got my excursions. It looks like only one in Victoria is sold out.
Good Night!

Yay! You got the carriage? We did too. Only one time was showing though. I wonder if it only had one time or if the others filled up so they weren't showing? IDK. I'm glad you got it :)

I have a lot to say about my experience at Port Canaveral, almost all of it negative. If things go as poorly for me at Long Beach as they did at PC and they start ressies when they start boarding, then I have no reason for hope.

I'm sorry your past experience was bad. Is there a reason you can't get to the port early? Is San Pedro in Long Beach? I thought it was in LA.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Same.
On right at midnight and zero brunch or teas. I wasn't sure I was going to book brunch or not though so I was only looking to decide... but alas, no choice in the matter.
that's sad for those that really wanted it. I guess they didn't save any open for us lowly silver cc members. Forget about those who have never cruised with Disney before too- apparently.
If I were you- i'd try once you board.... immediately.

Shoot! I was hoping those Mickey jammies would bring you luck!:goodvibes
Maybe you'll be able to get onboard early and book one. It seems like they should let other than Gold and platinum members get brunch ressies.:confused3

On my last cruise, main dining was 5:45. I don't know of any reason to change it for west coast cruises.

Formal night is night 2
Pirate night is night 4
And semi-formal is night 5

Main Dining is 6 and 6:15, I think. On the Magic, it was also 5:45. We have Main dining, too.

Show time is 9pm, I think. We had main before and always went to the show after dinner.

We did Rasul on the morning of our CC day before. Not sure when we want it this time, so I'm waiting on that one.

Formal night is Day 2 and Day 5. Per info to someone's TA - I forgot who the OP was.

I expect to stay at a hotel near the port so I hope I can get there when the port opens. But that's what I did last time, hoping to be in group 2 or 3 for boarding. But...

Although I got there just before they officially opened, we were not allowed in before the first couple buses got there.
As soon as we got rid of our luggage we got in line to have our IDs checked, by somebody with a very weak understanding of English. At least five buses had arrived by the time I got into the line for security.
But only one security line was running - we were in a line that wrapped around to where people from the buses were entering the building.
Those people didn't like us 'cutting' and that made for a very unpleasant experience. But it got worse when I saw they had opened the second security line behind us so people who had arrived later than me were getting inside and getting boarding numbers before me.

Getting there before the port opened, I was rewarded with a number 9. I wanted to get there early because I wanted to have lunch in Parrot Cay - I had been told that the restaurant can fill quickly then they will direct people to Topsiders. Fortunately some people were just finishing as we arrived - although my wife constantly wanted to eat breakfast and lunch in Topsiders, I never enjoyed the experience.

Just the way my day is going. First the weather man is called for 1-2 inches of snow and we get over 1 foot. Now the normal Disney cruise website issues.

First my second saying the second room it was not paid for. Then i made the reservation and the cruise plans are blank. Then i log back in and it says.

Sorry, bookings cannot be viewed once the sail date has passed.

Boy that cruise was fast.

now I stuck on

Sorry, we are unable to retrieve your reservation. Either there has been a system issue or another Guest in your stateroom or another stateroom linked to yours is currently arranging activities in My Cruise Plans. Please try again later.

I give up and hopefully it is booked and i'm going to bed.

Well, we got what we wanted for the most part. I did get a Palo dinner, but not for the night of my mom's birthday. Got it for the first night. I will keep checking to see if something opens up, but its no big deal. We're adults and can celebrate anytime! I got the excursions I wanted too, even the whale one in Victoria. I'll change that to something else if I can get a whale excursion in Alaska, but wanted to make sure my DD got to see Shamu (as she calls all whales) in real life.

I am something a lot of people don't seem to believe exists - a straight guy who enjoys ballet! Before the Palo frustration I was already frustrated because I hadn't been able to talk my wife into going to see the Pacific Northwest Ballet perform Cinderella next month.

But you know what? I will be in the Seattle area the afternoon and early evening of Thursday, Feb 10. I just bought a ticket to attend by myself! And there just happened to be some seats available in the front row!

And you know what else? Three months from today I will be taking a cruise! I even booked a Palo dinner that doesn't interfere with regular dinner, so we could enjoy our own dinner then sit in the dining room with our son if I can't get brunch reservations!

Seeing no brunches available was frustrating, and remembering my attempt to check in last time was even more frustrating. But taking a few minutes to look at some positive things (and spend $105 on a ticket) sure took care of the negativity!

Great night, everybody!

Wow! Hope it goes better for you this time. We can hope. I had a great boarding experience in Miami for our recent RCCL cruise. I think Disney with all their great crowd control experience should be able to make the boarding more efficient.

Way to stay positive!:thumbsup2 I just said to DH that even if we didn't get to do everything we wanted, we are on a cruise and can still have fun no matter what!

I just booked us for dinner on day 5, and a spa treatment for myself. There are still lots of Palo dinners open and lots of spa treatments. For excursions, the only thing closed is the adults only city tour and Empress tea.

No brunch or tea open, but I plan to check back regularly, because I was on the 2-night last weekend and both opened and closed a couple times in the months before the cruise. We ended up getting a brunch, but no tea. :sad2:

I guess in order to get the tea, you have to be platinum or concierge. :sad1:

Sorry you didn't get your mom's birthday. Whale watching sounds great! I hope the whales are moving at that time!:yay:

THis won't make you feel any better but there were little to no brunch ressies for the gold members either. I logged on at 12:03 am on our date and all the brunch and tea ressies were gone.

Current Repo Roster by Room for FE exchange. Per my preference... rules are that there are no rules! (Except all rum must be deposited at my door... oh wait, we are not in the Caribbean... never mind.)

Hillaryone,

Can you add us to the FE list? Please -- Cabin 5512 Dennis, Theresa, Natalie. Natalie is going to be 12 by the time the cruise gets here and guess what ANOTHER HOMESCHOOLER!!!

What day is her birthday? Mine is April 30.. but I am a few years older than 11 :rotfl:;)

Debbie

Oooh Birthdays, birthdays. My son is turning 8 on april 29

I booked Muir Woods for the 2nd SF day, and a Garden tour for Victoria, but may change that.

I want to do alcatraz on the first SF day, we'll probably are going to do that on our own.

You are on the list. :)

I'm making mine write a report about Alcatraz. (As was previously joked, this could be considered detention.) Homeschooling is great!
