04/10/2011 Mexican Riviera Cruise

Hey guys!

I'm new here so I hope this is the right place to post. I'll be on the Disney Wonder for the Mexican Riviera cruise from 4/10-4/17 and was wondering if anyone might be interested in a little meet-up for fishing in Cabo on 4/15 (first day in Cabo). We have tentative reservation with Renegade Mike's (pm me for the URL) and so far it's my dad, my wife and myself. I believe there is room for two more. The price of the charter is $450 before gratuity (15%) and licenses ($12) and whatever else (lunch/food, etc). If two people join and we have 5 total, that's $90 a person. So the two joining would pay $180. We would likely leave between 11:30am and 12pm and return hopefully well before 7pm back to the dock to get back to the cruise ship.

Anyway, if anyone is interested or up for a little fishing, we wouldn't mind sharing a rail. Please let me know ASAP!!!

Thanks,
Jeremy

I merged your thread with the meets thread for your sailing since that's where you should have posted this message. Hopefully you'll get some responses/feedback from other's on your cruise.

We're from Colorado, so flying in, of course :) The flight is only 2 hours and we do it so much that it doesn't feel like we're traveling very far.

We booked our cruise while we were onboard last January. My DH has been trying to get me to go to Mexico for years and I figured a Disney cruise would be a good way to do it. We mostly picked this particular week because it worked in my DH's work schedule and we found out we could book one of the "secret porthole" rooms which saved us some money. The "no kids" decision was kind of spur-of-the-moment as we were talking to the booking person. We are pretty excited to be able to experience some of the adult shows and things we missed out on the last cruise. My DS is totally unhappy with us, but we're planning on booking another cruise onboard this time to hopefully make it up to him :)

Interesting. When I first booked our rooms, I had the option of getting the connecting porthole rooms, but I decided against it. Let me know what you think of it. Also we did a no kid cruise three years ago for our ten year anniversary. It was great. I'm sure I'll enjoy it with our kids too.

Will definitely let you know, and you're always welcome to come take a look sometime that week if you're interested in seeing the setup :) We've always gotten verandahs in the past, so this will be a little different for us. I really like the price of an inside room, but don't think I could handle not being able to look outside, so this was a good compromise for us.

I think your kids are a good age to cruise, so I'm sure you'll have great fun. When we went last year, DD was 1 and while she did GREAT, it was a bit stressful :scared1:
Looking forward to a bit more relaxation this time around :cool1:

D'oh!!!!! :badpc:
Do you book and pay online? Or once you're on the ship?

We want to do a few tastings but I think we are going to spread them out, since I am a lightweight. Shhh, don't tell anybody.

This has already been answered but I'll just confirm that the price was $15 each person and we booked at guest service after we got on board. Unfortunately, you can't book this one online yet but I wish you could.
We aren't big drinkers at all and I only like the girly stuff so I guess you could call us lightweights as well!! However, the Martini's were delicious and I'm hoping to try some new ones this time around. We had four samples: Red Apple, Le Creme, Chocolate, & an original dark Martini (which I almost spit back out!! lol). I loved the other 3 though. Gus also was picked to make a full size Lemon Drop (so tasty) and then they brought out a bonus sample called Wedding Cake (yum!!). As you can imagine, we were feeling pretty giddy after all this and then proceded straight to our cabin to pass out!! :cloud9:

As for how we booked this cruise...I mentioned previously we were on the 15 day Westbound Tranatlantic back in Sept and I caught a serious upper respiratory infection that turned into whooping cough and pretty much thought I was going to die for the next 23 days (and 2 months after we got back). Anyhow, we rebooked this on board to help make up for the fact that I spent most of our dream vacation in our cabin. We also booked a dummy date which turned into 5/19-/5/26 on the Fantasy next year! I really wanted to do the WBTA again but didn't have enough vacation time.

Thanks! Getting excited for the cruise. I anticipate being on Deck 4 quite a bit, running laps to work off all the food I'll be eating...!

Gosh, I missed so much while I was at work today!

Hey all,

Just wanted to throw this out there in case there's interest.

From the thread I posted in the Disney Meets forum:

I'll have to double-check on whether it's one or two spots. But I think it's likely two.

We are not big fishers, but good luck! Please stick around and chat with us and come to our DIS meet-up on Day 1, if you are so inclined. :goodvibes

Almost there. Ok a couple of questions. Has anyone got that passporter book? Is it worth it?

I bought the 2008 Passporter book off ebay because it includes the MR itinerary. There really isn't anything in the book that you can't find online but I like it. We are bringing it with us and I'm sure it will be useful.

I'm not sure outside of Tritons is a good place to meet. At 3pm, I think there will still be people boarding right there in the Atrium and the crew does the PA announcement welcoming each family (noisy). I haven't done a Meet before, but I've read a lot of TR's where they used the Promenade Lounge as a meet location. It's just around the corner (aft) from the Atrium and Triton's. What do you think?

I think you buy a "ticket" for a tasting once you board, I'm guessing at Guest Services, which, coincidentally, is also right around the corner from the Atrium (forward). BTW, I am also not a huge drinker, and was planning to truly just "taste" the tequila drinks. We'll see if I can hold to that plan so I can be a little proper for Formal night on Monday!

I like the coupon. Thanks!

SJCruiser

I'm okay with Promenade Lounge. DF and I don't have check-in until 12:30 so I'm not sure if we will make it on the ship and be done with lunch by 3pm!!! But we will try our best to be there, and hopefully see some of you at the Tequila tasting on Monday.

I'm going to get magnetic paper tonight and will try to print and let you know how it goes. I've printed them before and they've been fine, so if i'm able to get it to work this time, I can always print out an extra set for you and give it to you when we meet up on Sunday. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thank you for the offer. :goodvibes A word of caution - try printing a draft version on regular paper and measuring it before you print the real thing. I wasted some precious cardstock last night on my sombrero. :sad2:

I like the girly drinks too. princess: I want to do the martini tasting! But probably on a different day from the tequila tasting! Do you think if I wear my Just Engaged pin, they will bring us the Wedding Cake one???? :bride: :rotfl:

Haha, me too! I'm bringing my workout clothes, but realistically they will probably spend most of the trip in my suitcase .... :rolleyes1

I love reading everyone's stories! I have a pretty detailed story in my Pre-Trip Report but I'll do the Reader's Digest version here.

Basically DF and I haven't been on vacation in 5 years. DF works in TV so his jobs and income are sporatic, and I decided to go to college about 5 years ago and have been working full time and attending classes full time, so we haven't had much spare time or money for vacations. I wanted to take a vacation to celebrate my graduation, and DF got a steady job finally (watch Community, Thursday nights on NBC *shameless plug*), so we started to make plans. When I heard about the Wonder coming to LA I told DF about it and was worried because he is not the worlds biggest Disney fan, he just kind of tolerates it for my sake. But he said it sounded like fun so we started saving and booked it last October! :yay: We got engaged in November, I finished school in December, and Community just got renewed for another season (meaning another year of work for DF), so we are celebrating a LOT of things on this cruise!!!! :wizard:

Congrats on graduation!! I did the same thing and it took me 7 years so I can relate! After almost dropping out after my grandfather died suddenly, becoming caregiver to my 80 year old Gma and working full time I just sat there and cried at my graduation ceremony because I just couldn't believe it was happening.

That's awesome about Community! We love that show. I have to admit, I'm super jealous though. I went to school for Mass Media & Communication and I desperately wanted to work behind the scenes in the Entertainment Industry but just couldn't commit to those loooonnnggg hours since I needed to be home with the Gma. It'll be fun to hear what it's like!!

If they don't hook you up with a Wedding Cake Martini then we'll just have to buy you one to celebrate your engagement! :)

Where in Colorado are you? I grew up in Limon.

Congrats to you, too, for finishing school. Life gets in the way and it's easy to drop out; it takes a lot of strength to continue like you did so you should be very proud of yourself! :wizard:

Awww, I would never expect or want anyone to buy me anything on the cruise, but if Disney wants to spread some pixie dust I will be more than happy to take it .... :rolleyes1 pixiedust:

We're in Longmont. It's amazing how many people I run across who grew up somewhere in Colorado! I don't know if we'll ever leave, I like our lifestyle here a lot and we live near family so have built-in babysitters, which is nice!

Finally finished my FE! :cool1: Just need to add the dowel and we'll be all set! This is my first sewing project but my mom helped a ton, so I think it turned out pretty ok :)

:thumbsup2 Yes, I TOTALLY learned my lesson last time when I wasted a whole bunch of magnetic paper :rolleyes1 So the store was out of paper this evening, but I did test on a regular piece of paper and it came out alright. I'll print out a couple extra just in case anyone needs one!

OK. I thought it would be fun to see how far people are coming from. Also it probably would be fun to hear how everybody ended up on this boat, not only a Disney Cruise but also this particular cruise.

Great idea to get to know each other  I really can't wait to meet everyone and puts some faces with names ;)
So our story is that my husband, 4.5 year old daughter and I are taking our 3rd MR cruise, but first time on DCL. We live in San Diego (only 2 hour drive to the port) and have found cruising to be great with a child, unfortunately on our last cruise, our daughter found the kids camp to be not so engaging and really did not want to spend any time there, leaving my husband and me with virtually no adult time  When I discovered DCL was coming to the west coast, I was able to convince my husband to spend the extra$ to give DCL a try and see if we can get a nice family vacation that includes a little adult time too :woohoo: Funny thing is we have always cruised with another couple and their son who is 7, but he is not into Disney. They would not spend the money for DCL so they leave the day before us on the Norwegian Star and we will meet up with them while we are in port in Puerto Vallarta :rotfl:
I really hope we have a great cruise experience and possibly convince the hubby to think about another:rolleyes1 I would love to have another trip to look forward to in the future....

Being a DCL newbie I have a question to those of you that have been there done that... is there pocket ship maps available somewhere? I am always so disoriented on where things are for several days when I get on board the ship...
Also, is it customary to tip the kids club counselors?

Hmm...good question about the pocket maps. I don't remember seeing any when we were on the Magic. I do remember doing a lot of wandering around trying to find stuff though :lmao:

Tipping the kids club counselors isn't necessary, although there was one counselor that went out of his way to spend time with DS because he was a little shy with the other kids at that time, so we ended up giving him a bag of candy at the end of the cruise as a little "thank you". I do know if any of the non-tipped positions, like the counselors, get monetary tips they have to pool them with all the other CMs in their area. So, any money that the youth activities team gets is pooled among the whole group. I think this is also true if you give non-monetary gifts without a specific name on it.

I have a question for those of you bringing booze on board. Is anyone going to try to sneak it into your checked luggage? I know we are not supposed to ... but my box of wine is pretty sturdy and I don't think it would leak. (Yes I drink wine out of a box, I'm a pretty classy lady.)

I don't remember any pocket maps on the wonder the last time we were on, but we never asked either.. this time I will! :thumbsup2

We are just taking ours in one of those rolling cooler bags.... does anyone know if we are allowed to bring snacks on board (carry on or checked)?? :confused3

We had no problem carrying on bags of groceries from the ports on the WBTA last Sept. We had water, soda, candy and chips and no one said anything.

I'll be in your neck of the woods in a few months. My friend moved to Loveland and I am going out to visit her for a long weekend. Than in August I will be going to Limon.
