04/10/2011 Mexican Riviera Cruise

Hey guys!

I'm new here so I hope this is the right place to post. I'll be on the Disney Wonder for the Mexican Riviera cruise from 4/10-4/17 and was wondering if anyone might be interested in a little meet-up for fishing in Cabo on 4/15 (first day in Cabo). We have tentative reservation with Renegade Mike's (pm me for the URL) and so far it's my dad, my wife and myself. I believe there is room for two more. The price of the charter is $450 before gratuity (15%) and licenses ($12) and whatever else (lunch/food, etc). If two people join and we have 5 total, that's $90 a person. So the two joining would pay $180. We would likely leave between 11:30am and 12pm and return hopefully well before 7pm back to the dock to get back to the cruise ship.

Anyway, if anyone is interested or up for a little fishing, we wouldn't mind sharing a rail. Please let me know ASAP!!!

Thanks,
Jeremy

Did Mindy say that the tequila tastings have been running on Mondays? My question is if we need to purchase a seat/reservation at the tasting ahead of time, i.e. when we board? Do they have limited seating and do they sell out?

I know I read one trip report where several people who paid for a seat at the tequila tasting didn't show up, so the people who were there got to, ahem, empty the no-shows' glasses. ;)

Hmmmm, not sure about this. I thought we just showed up. Maybe someone who has cruised before can chime in.

DW has to finish organizing all the stuff to pack, I have to find a dog sitter, have to put the mail on vacation hold plus other stuff.... 12 days seems like enough time, but with our regular duties in life.. it will fly by! :scared1:
But I know we will be ok :woohoo:
I think we will start the tequila tasting now! :rolleyes1

:lmao:

Don't worry, you will get it all settled.

Has anyone tried printing Mickey ears for their door? I am trying to print the sombrero one and ready to throw my printer out the window. I'm following the instructions to the letter and it's printing too small. I'm using the "print" version and measuring it based on a 7.5" circle. I'm going crazy!!!!!!!!! :scared1:

I know what you mean, these next 12 days are going to be crazy. Just got back in town from being gone 2 weeks for work. I am still working on some of my FE gifts so if some of the new folks want to give us your room number maybe we can drop off some goodies for the kids if we have some extras.

Has anyone ordered a tux on the ship yet? Wasn't quite sure where to look for the form. We reserved one last year for our Western Caribbean cruise. I just bought one for my 9 year old on ebay, which is much cheaper than renting. Now I just need one for my DH.

Any chance we can set up another meet? Maybe somewhere we can bring the kids so they can meet up as well?

That's great! Are you planning any nursery time for your DS? We're considering it, but I'm having trouble thinking through which day/time to book. We don't have much planned yet, which is probably why I'm having trouble deciding.

We booked the nursery for a couple hours (10:30-12:30 or 1:00 which is before lunch and nap time) on sea days hoping to catch some sun / relax time at the pool, and 9-10:30 every night. DS I know will not sit through 2+ hr dinners so after 45 mins off to nursery. The servers will bring the kids food out quickly for dine and play. We are going to wing it, since I am a SAHM he's with me all day, we hope he'll like the nursery. All our excursions are beach and or pool ones... Good for toddlers. If you and DH want to see a movie you might want to book the nursery for that too...

Mine prints too big!

We did tastings on the Magic and had to book and pay beforehand. There was a day or two that were already full when we asked. Not sure if anything has changed since then but I would get your tickets when you get on board.

We had a blast at the Martini tasting so we plan to book the first sea day if anyone wants to join us!

Do you book and pay online? Or once you're on the ship?

We want to do a few tastings but I think we are going to spread them out, since I am a lightweight. Shhh, don't tell anybody.

I won't be able to get DF in a tux for our wedding day, let alone on a cruise ship on vacation. :lmao: I am wearing a dress but he is sticking with polo shirts and khaki's for formal night.

I think we are planning a meet for the first day, after boarding but before the drill. 3pm outside of Tritons? I'm at work and can't read back right now to confirm.

Hey all,

Just wanted to throw this out there in case there's interest.

From the thread I posted in the Disney Meets forum:

I'll have to double-check on whether it's one or two spots. But I think it's likely two.

I printed a donald(of course), a captain Mickey and a tiarra minnie. The first two came out fine, but the last one too big.

All our family is dressing up. We are using this opportunity as family pictures. Me and my son will be in suits and my wife and kids in nice dresses.
We are really looking forward to formal night. In fact every night, our family will be dressed nice, polos, button down shirts, pants for me and my son. I told the kids no shorts or tanks or "fun" shirts for dinner. Those clothes are for the day. Except Pirate night of course.pirate:

Almost there. Ok a couple of questions. Has anyone got that passporter book? Is it worth it? Are they doing that tea party? Do you have a link to the latest navigators? Also here are some tip envelopes I had a designer make for me. Feel free to use them.

OK. I thought it would be fun to see how far people are coming from. Also it probably would be fun to hear how everybody ended up on this boat, not only a Disney Cruise but also this particular cruise. Here is mine.
We are from Oxnard, CA about 1.5 hourn north of the port. This is how we ended up on this boat. Back in 09 we had promised our three kids(5,7 & 9 now) a trip to Atlantis Bahamas(we live in socal) that me and my wife won from our company Herbalife. So we put that in front of them for nine months. In October "09 we realized how much it was going to cost to take them (my wife and I were free) and we just couldn't aford it at that time. We were devestated. So we quickly came up with a plan B. I found out Disney was going t o start cruising in'11 from LA. After some research we decided to book the MR April 10, 2011 cruise, knowing I had plenty of time to save. So I asked my kids (knowing what they would say) if they would rather go to Bahamas for four days or a Disney cruise for a week. Well of course they all picked the cruise even though they had to wait 18 months for it (I do not know what I would have done if they picked the Bahamas):confused3. So ever since then, every time they asked us to buy something for them, and I don't want to, I simply say"Sorry kids we can't afford that, we have to save for the cruise" and they fully understand and say OK with no complaints. I figured that alone has paid for about 20% of the cruise.. I'm going to miss using that strategy.

I'm not sure outside of Tritons is a good place to meet. At 3pm, I think there will still be people boarding right there in the Atrium and the crew does the PA announcement welcoming each family (noisy). I haven't done a Meet before, but I've read a lot of TR's where they used the Promenade Lounge as a meet location. It's just around the corner (aft) from the Atrium and Triton's. What do you think?

I think you buy a "ticket" for a tasting once you board, I'm guessing at Guest Services, which, coincidentally, is also right around the corner from the Atrium (forward). BTW, I am also not a huge drinker, and was planning to truly just "taste" the tequila drinks. We'll see if I can hold to that plan so I can be a little proper for Formal night on Monday!

Ha, cute story! You know, you can still use that "saving for the cruise" strategy for your NEXT Disney Cruise, which you HAVE to book while onboard. Even if you don't have a specific plan (i.e. where/when), you gotta come up with the deposit for just one person for a dummy reservation to lock in the discount and OBC.

We booked this cruise originally on our May 2009 Western Caribbean on the Magic. Actually, I did just as above - I booked a dummy res for just one person (me). I think the deposit was $125 and I booked it for Dec '10, knowing that we would push it out to sometime in 2011. So in late 2009 (Oct?) when the 2011 itineraries came out, we luckily had the kids' school schedules already and booked this one for Spring Break 2011. I booked on the first day allowed, so we got the lowest price, including the 10% discount and $200 OBC. I just had to add DH, DD, and DS to the ressie and pay their $125 deposits. Voila!

We are looking forward to not having to fly cross-country this time. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley (Chatsworth), so I'm familiar with everyone's locations in Porter Ranch, Pacoima, Oxnard, etc. We live up north in the Silicon Valley now.

Good point! It will be kind of crazy outside of Triton's. I have also heard Promenade Lounge is a good place to meet up, so we might want to consider that instead.

Yes, you buy the ticket at Guest Services once you're onboard. They were either $10 or $15 last year, but I don't know if that price has gone up. My DH did a couple and he always just booked the day of the tasting and didn't have problems getting in, although I know they do have a limited number of spots. I'm guessing with all us DISers planning on going, the spots might fill up quickly so may be a good idea to try and book early on! :thumbsup2

We're from Colorado, so flying in, of course :) The flight is only 2 hours and we do it so much that it doesn't feel like we're traveling very far.

We booked our cruise while we were onboard last January. My DH has been trying to get me to go to Mexico for years and I figured a Disney cruise would be a good way to do it. We mostly picked this particular week because it worked in my DH's work schedule and we found out we could book one of the "secret porthole" rooms which saved us some money. The "no kids" decision was kind of spur-of-the-moment as we were talking to the booking person. We are pretty excited to be able to experience some of the adult shows and things we missed out on the last cruise. My DS is totally unhappy with us, but we're planning on booking another cruise onboard this time to hopefully make it up to him :)

I'm going to get magnetic paper tonight and will try to print and let you know how it goes. I've printed them before and they've been fine, so if i'm able to get it to work this time, I can always print out an extra set for you and give it to you when we meet up on Sunday. I'll let you know how it goes!

We live in Pacoima which is 45 minutes north of the port. We went on our first cruise in 2008 which was a combo (land & sea) trip. 3 days at WDW and 4 nights in the Bahamas. We had such a great time, but we wanted to wait for the kids to get a little older so they can enjoy more. They do have memories of the first cruise, but we didn't have much adult time because they did not like to stay in the clubs by themselves. So DW and I talked about going on another D cruise when we found out that the Wonder was comming to L.A.
We were happy we saved the $$ on flights and put it towards the cruise. So here we are going once again in 11 days! :cool1:
