Congrats, Tina! I am so happy for you and your husband. Enjoy your time off together, and let me know if you want any SD suggestions. I miss it there :goodvibes

    Charleston, SC

We love Charleston! My husband is a Citadel grad, so we try to get back fairly often. One place that I haven't seen mentioned yet is Cru Cafe - the food there is fresh and delicious. Try to make reservations though, as they get booked even for lunch. I would second the recommendation for 82...

Favorite things to do in TopSail/Wilmington NC

Another vote for the Cape Fear Museum, walking down by the river walk, Wrightsville Beach, Kilwin's, and Sweet & Savory! Other suggestions: Indochine for Thai, Bdobo for a cheap Mongolian meal, Copper Penny for lunch/dinner, or Chops for quick sandwiches. For photography, look at Kristen...

Can't decide- All Clad or Cuisinart stainless steel skillets?

We have a set of All Clad copper core, and love them. They're 6 years old and still look brand new.

    I could use a hug

I'm so sorry, Tina. I know how rough it is to have your husband deployed over the holidays - that is by far the roughest time of the year for me. I hope you get into your new "normal" quickly. Give yourself today to feel awful and then try to schedule something fun to help change things up...

How far away from home did you go when you left for college, the service or just left?

2500 miles (CT to AZ). I moved out to CA after graduation and stayed there for 7 years. My husband and I just moved to NC, so at 12 hours driving distance, this is the closest I've been to family in 10 years or so.

    Teacher's Pencil Sharpener

Yes, and I love it! I went through 2 electric ones before switching to the Classroom Friendly Supplies one. I'm not a huge fan of the clamp, but the sharpener overall works much better.

any jeep or ford escape, ford focus or cmax drivers here?

I drove an '05 Escape in college and really liked it. My parents now have it for a younger sibling, and it is still going strong at 100,000+ miles. My husband just bought the 2013 Ford Focus as a commuting car (he has about a 100 mile commute a day, so we needed something fuel efficient), and...

Can I whine just a little bit?

It's interesting, because I haven't had this experience at all (does it vary possibly from service to service?). We were lucky and were able to stay in CA for 6 years, but when the second tour was up, the billet list clearly stated that if you had been at your duty station for two tours, you...

Anyone have an LG steam front-load washer?

We just bought it about a week ago, and are loving it so far!

    San Diego Restaurants

I second the recommendations for Burger Lounge and Cafe Chloe. I would also suggest Extraordinary Desserts, if you have a sweet tooth. Their desserts are amazing, and if you go to the Little Italy location, they also have an assortment of sandwiches/salads for dinner.

What is your favorite protein snack that can be carried in your purse?

Paleo Kits from Steve's Original - they have jerky, nuts, and berries in them.

    Need advice about Washer/Dryer purchase

We're currently renting and the owners have a Whirlpool Duet set. I HATE it. The front loading washer constantly leaks, and the dryer sometimes needs two cycles to dry. When we move this summer, I'm looking at buying either LG or Samsung.

    (Kids') Triathlon Help

Did you already have a towel laid out on the ground? I like to step right on to that, rub my feet a little, and then put my socks right on. Maybe she was trying to dry them off too completely? I probably wouldn't suggest running and riding the bike without socks in case it irritates her or...

Thoughts or experiences with HS Latin?

I took Latin for 5 years (8th - 12th grade) and agree that it's definitely worth it. Previous posters are correct in the fact that you are [very likely] not going to become fluent in Spanish or French through 4 years of study in HS - so it may make sense to spend that time with the root of the...

    London or Paris Tours

I was going to suggest this too, until I saw the budget for the present was $100. I think our tour last summer was $500 for the day. Entirely worth it, but definitely pricey. I know the company we went with also does wine tastings in Paris, if that's something they'd be interested in -...

    Economical food processor experiences

We just spent seemingly forever trying to pick a food processor. We ended up deciding to splurge and bought the Breville, but a bunch of the Cuisinart ones had great reviews as well. BBB has 20% off coupons, so we saved quite a bit by buying it there.

Cooking Light, Runner's World, and Food & Wine

What was the fanciest hotel/vacation you've ever had?

We just stayed at the Spindrift last month, and I agree! The fireplaces in the rooms were super romantic. We stayed at the Charleston Place in Charleston, SC for a long weekend, on my in-law's DVC points. The suite was amazing. Unfortunately, the Charleston Place no longer has reciprocity...
