Zip A dee doo dah song removed from DL loop music...

Well then your way of interpretation is spot on because only the cancel culture sees things in a way that could make everything in the world offensive. There are two sides to EVERY single coin and you could debate anything and make it bad. Re-writing history should be completely outlawed. They're going to be sorry 20 years from now when we end up having slaves again because the younger generation knows nothing of how far we've come....because it never happened. I mean they are well on their way with all of this "you have to be kind to everyone, and if you're not, then we hate you!" mentality. It's like watching that movie The Beach with DeCaprio.

With all due respect, you think the United States of America is going to revert to human slavery because we are going to completely erase 400 years of history within 20 years? So my hypothetical children will own slaves? Is this because some Confederate statues are being taken down and some buildings renamed? Are all museums being dismantled and I completely missed that? This is ridiculous. I mean I understand the point I think you were trying to make, but there is a very huge difference between remembering history and celebrating it.

Back to the song, I would just assume it's because of the whole re-theme, but I've really never paid super close attention to background music in the parks so I probably wouldn't notice one way or the other. I don't find anything offensive about it on the surface, but I don't know enough about it's history to speak for everyone. I think Disney is just going to try to quietly distance itself from Song of the South, which would include the song. And quite honestly, it's just not high on my list of things to be really worried about.

That's why I keep thinking are there songs still playing from bygone attractions. Soarin's old song still plays in Epcot, but Soarin' is still there. I do hear Now Is The Time but CoP is still there. I THINK Whale of a Tale still plays somewhere, but the movie 20,000 Leagues is still okay with Disney. If Disney is doing away with all traces of Song of the South, then I guess the song has to go too. Thank goodness for mp3's!

I think Whale of a Tale plays in the loop outisde of MK - at least it does on the track that I have which I believe to be pretty recent. I'm not sure though and it could change any time too. Then again, 20K has been gone a long time and I know the track is more recent than that.

It’s not as much of an overreach as you might think when people are forcing other people to think their way and do things they don’t want to do. Such as in DC on Monday night with a roaming mob of protesters trying to force a random diner to raise her hand up in unity with them when she didn’t want to. Where have we seen that before? :scratchin (Hint: 1930’s.)

You are correct.
I saw the video/pictures of this today. I’m shocked (I guess not really anymore) that this is happening in our country.

What percent of people in the parks do you think know what movie (let along ride) Whale of a Tale is from? Do you think any of them would get mad if it just disappeared? Would they even notice?

Probably not too many - but Whale of a Tale was never as big. It's also not controversial, it's just an example I can think of where it was included because of the ride then continued after that ride was removed. This was really a seperate exercise to answer the question of "do they ever keep music from removed rides?"

I got you. I think my point is, if Song of the South wasn't controversial, and they just rethemed Splash Mountain because it wasn't relevant to today's audience, and they stopped playing Zip a Dee Doh Dah as a result... is that any different? Is it better? if so, why? When Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was removed, people were certainly upset. Do the majority of them care now, 22 years later? Does the 8-year old who loves Winnie the Pooh care about a ride was removed that was themed to a movie released almost 80 years ago?

Is the problem because of why it's being rethemed? 20k Leagues has a lot of political messaging that likely goes by unnoticed due to poor translations (both of Verne and of the story itself to the screen). It was removed not because of how it was anti-military-state and anti-colonial, but because the darn sub kept needed to be repaired and because the movie stopped being popular decades ago.

I do see your point. The thing is though that Zip A Dee Doo Dah has a much larger footprint than Mr. Toad or my beloeved 20K. It was used so much for Disney shows, etc. and is definitley a part of our collective culture. Most probably don't know it's origin though. At the end of the day, its removal is a very minor thing and won't be worried about 10 years from now, but I can see where it's going to raise a bigger stink than Mr. Toad.

I just went and found the story because I hadn't seen it. That was positively scary!!

Why don't you read the original comment again?
"you have to be kind to everyone, and if you're not, then we hate you!"
Nothing wrong with being kind to everyone. Hating people who disagree with that, not so good.

Actually, the comment doesn't refer to people they disagree with, just people who are not kind to others. In other words, hating people who are being hateful.
