Zip A dee doo dah song removed from DL loop music...

Even worse is the "I don't care what you think" mentality. You can't even say you disagree to some.

This is also an issue in today's discourse. There is no room for discussion anymore.

Wait? You think we’re going to have slavery again in 20 years? Because we‘re collectively not going to remember it ever happened?

While it is absolutely reactionary histrionics to make a claim like that, in a very broad sense the idiom of "those who forget history are doomed to repeat it" is important to consider - however remembering the ugly parts of history and celebrating them are two different things, and some don't seem to recognize the difference.

I think this is the main reason to take it out and not cancel culture. It doesnt make logical sense to keep music in from a ride that will not exist much longer, from a movie you cannot watch anymore.

Not all music in the loops is tied to a ride. They play "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" at MK even though there is only a ride at DL (canoes). They also use the song in many other places, like parades and shows. I want to say "Whale of a Tale" can still be heard in the MK entry plaza, but I am not sure. They stated when this all came up the first time that the soung would be eliminated from the parks in all instances.

The thing is, there's nothing in the lyrics that celebrates an ugly part of history. All the actual lyrics celebrate is beautiful weather.

Nothing about this makes sense. It’s completely emotional. What will Disney look like 20 years from now?

To clarify, I wasn't specifically talking about the song - just a generality. That said, it's the origins of the song that some see as problematic - I don't really personally as I think things can grow beyond that, however those who do have that opinion should also be heard. The discussion is the most important of the process.

That's not a massive overreach or anything.....
It’s not as much of an overreach as you might think when people are forcing other people to think their way and do things they don’t want to do. Such as in DC on Monday night with a roaming mob of protesters trying to force a random diner to raise her hand up in unity with them when she didn’t want to. Where have we seen that before? :scratchin (Hint: 1930’s.)

You are correct.

My friends used Zip a Dee Doo Dah as their recessional music at their wedding. I better go tell them how offensive it is and that need to overdub new music on their video. Her husband is in law enforcement too. Wow, the signs are really adding up. They are HUGE racists. Time to cancel that friendship.
My DD also used the song as her ressional. It was a Disney themed wedding and such an uplifting way to end the ceremony. I assure you no one thought about the origin of the song! So silly

Did you miss the part where it said that if you are not in full agreement with the people who are kind to everyone then they hate you?

I remember when "liberal" meant open minded. Now, it means intolerant.

There is definitely a trend toward that in some circles, though I don't think it's as mainstream as some believe. I have had to remind people that one can't fight hate with hate, and, back to the lessons of history, it is very easy for the oppressed to become the oppressors. That's something we should strive to avoid.

You can be kind to people you don't agree with. There's a difference between "you are a bad person for being aggressively argumentative" and "you are a bad person because you don't believe the same thing as me."

See: Joe Biden and John McCain. Didn't agree with each other politically, but were still good friends.

The ride isn't closed yet.

It will be. Do they play the Mr. Toad song anywhere in MK? I keep thinking yes, but now I can't place where?? How about Fun to Be Free from World of Motion? It might be because I have these songs in my own playlist that I keep thinking they must be played somewhere but I just can't be sure.

So if Disney is totally doing away with Splash (my favorite ride BTW), for the reasons they are, then I suppose it makes sense to expunge the song from the park. Of course I love the song, but if I want to hear it, I can play it on my own.

Someone commented about the inability to have discourse...in this case, WE can have all the discourse we want on the subject. In the end it will have no bearing on Disney's decision, I'm afraid. Disney's gonna do what Disney's gonna do (see also, Pirates of the Carribbean).

That ship seems to have sailed.

Because hate is never productive. Rejection, admonition, repudiation, sure - but hate? All that does is lower the discourse and create more hatred in the world.
ok, that's a good point. Hate isn't helpful. But then again, does Disney hate people who like Zip a Dee Doh Dah? Or did they decide the best course of action was to just stop playing it?

They did bring back a lot of songs from closed attractions in Epcot Forever - though that was a limited-time run. I do think some of this stuff slips into the backgorund loops though. They definitely still play "Now Is the Best Time of Your Life" - the other Carousel of Progress song in the Tomorrowland loop. Of course, COP is still operating, but that particular song isn't relevant to the current show.

Exactly. Some are very quick to call anything "hate" when that is not the case at all. I don't think Disney making changes is reflective of that. However, there are those who do espouse the kind of thing the poster was referring to - actually hating those who disagree with their own virtues. I do not think most people feel that way at all though.

That's why I keep thinking are there songs still playing from bygone attractions. Soarin's old song still plays in Epcot, but Soarin' is still there. I do hear Now Is The Time but CoP is still there. I THINK Whale of a Tale still plays somewhere, but the movie 20,000 Leagues is still okay with Disney. If Disney is doing away with all traces of Song of the South, then I guess the song has to go too. Thank goodness for mp3's!
