"You're Beautiful".... the song

I saw him for the first time on SNL and I could not comprehend why he'd been booked. Don't like him or his songs. :crazy2:

3. Why in God's name did he "ruin" it by droppong the "F-Bomb" in it on the CD.... the radio version is clean.
I find it to be one of the best songs in the last few years. It is a shame he couldn't keep it clean on the CD.... the only song on it with profanity, as far as I can tell. Very good CD, too.

i work for a video company that makes a lot of stuff for local TV, and we recently cut together a concert of this guy. well the producer on the project was not paying attention and we shipped the completed concert out to networks...with all the profanities still in it, clear as day. he just assumed that all the songs were clean without really listening to it....had to re-do the project and re-ship, barely making it in time!

I love that song, and I love his voice (but I'm partial to whiny guy singers like in Coldplay and Keane). The lyrics didn't really add up for me, though. I doesn't make sense from the standpoint of someone he's just seeing for the first time (kinda creepy that way). I'll have to re-listen to it now from a new perspective, and I really want to hear some of his other songs that some of you have mentioned.

I like it, but I prefer other songs on his CD. My main problem with it is that it was VERY overplayed when I was living in London, and right now, as I move back to the US, it is just beginning to get very popular here. (It was popular several months ago there.) So I get to hear it overplayed in two different countries...twice as much.

Didn't like his voice (I just listened to it on the link that was posted, but I have heard it before) It doesn't seem like anything that would be a "good" slowdance song for me...has a kind of weird beat to it.

If he was trying out for American Idol he would not have even made it to Hollywood!

I love the song. Didn't realize the F bomb was in it until I dowloaded the song from iTunes and didn't get the clean version. Interestingly enough, I like it better with the F word. I'm not sure what that says about me. :rotfl:

It's the #1 song being dowloaded on iTunes for quite some time now. Yeah, I guess I'd slow dance to it, but it's not my first choice. I'd rather blast the song and sing it in my car when I'm alone...F bomb and all. :hyper:

I've never seen the video, but my teenage son said it's "weird."

The song annoys me. It is way overplayed here. His voice is just a little too strange for my liking. I can't think of who is it, but there is a female artist that he reminds me of.

Tracy Chapman????

I've never heard of the guy or the song. Listened to the clip that was linked and I didn't like it, from what I heard. The guy's voice is weird.

same here. The clip was enough to annoy me.

I love this song and his voice. I also didn't realize what was said in the song till I looked up the lyrics.

Ugh.. known also as James BLAND by those of us who dislike him in the UK.
It's just a typical 'number 1' song. Any song that proclaims that 'you' are beautiful seems to get to number 1 over here.
He's like the male version of Dido... incredibly bland, no real talent, doesn't even seem interested himself in what he is singing. And, like Dido, way overplayed in the UK.

OTOH, DBf and I did have a hilarious moment the other day when the TV was on and we were hugging - I pulled away and looked at him and said, 'you're beautiful' and after a v.short silence, the middle of the song started up. We collapsed in laughter - it was like a horrendous chick flick moment!

This song makes me want to gnaw my own ears off.

Everytime this song came on the radio today, I just about busted out laughing thinking about the above quote.

He reminds me of Al Stewart of "Year of the Cat" fame.

I'm sorry, I can't hear you.

One good thing about it: Whether you love or hate it, it's an interesting song - interesting enough to merit its own 4-page (so far) thread with people on both sides of the fence. Most songs these days are so boring that they not interesting enough for people to have such strong opinions about.

I like it okay, but I'm sure I would get sick of it if I bought it. His voice does bug me. I thought it was Rod Stewart (whom another poster mentioned) the first few times I heard it.

It was used on an episode of Smallville recently (maybe the one where Mr. Kent/John Schneider died), and now the song always makes me think of Clark Kent and Lana Lang :(.
