Your Unpopular Opinions

Amen to that.

I'm going to say one that just popped up.

I think we are starting to use mental health issues to not deal with our problems,

yesterday or the day before a women plows her car into a crowd of revelers at a homecoming festival, 4 people are dead including a 2 year old. She allegedly was drunk.
she has been charged with 4 counts of 2nd degree murder.

Her attorney says she was not drunk she is mentally ill.

That is also the go to "my bad" card played with every mass shooting.
That accident happened about an hour from me and it has been all over the local news. They did initially arrest her for DUI, but they suspected drugs, not alcohol. They are awaiting blood test results. They also now believe that it was an intentional act on her part based on statements she made and not just an accident. Thus the murder charges.

As to whether she is mentally ill or not, I can't say. It will be a long while before anyone knows what truly happened.

It always amazes me that 90% of the fans of one of those series can't abide the other. I do prefer Star Wars, but I think Star Trek is tolerable. Apparently I am in the minority...another unpopular opinion!!! Thanks for making me realize it!
I'm even more unpopular. I could take or leave Star Wars and Star Trek, but don't mess with Lost in Space.

I think folks who say that a stay at home parent of kid(s) in school full time (past age 5+) really should be called 'unemployed' have never had kids past age 5 yet.

All my kids are over 5. I work full time...well over 50 hours/week, Dh works full time, and the kids are highly involved in sports, scouts, choir, etc. It's all doable. :). I know no different so, it just works. :)

I hate the books Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. They are not great literature. They are depressing books. I think the movie version of Les Miserables was pathetic and should not have been made. I wish we could deport Justin Beiber and send him to college for a real education.

Not so much religious, as a musical issue.

I love traditional hymns and hate modern Christian music/praise hymns with a passion. It dumbs down church services. If you remove the word "Jesus" from a song and replace it with a random man's name and the song sounds like a romantic one, that's just wrong. I call them "Jesus is my boyfriend" songs. Singing the same sentence 8 times in a row is not a hymn. It's babble. You can't make a modern Christian song into a decent hymn by tossing in the occasional anachronistic "thee" or "thou." In an attempt to be relevant to teens, songs are sung which the teens don't even sing along with. It's just bad church music. I joke that I have to go to Hobby Lobby to hear a decent hymn these days.

Sadly, every church around here, no matter what the sect, has abandoned hymns for those horrible praise songs.

:worship: You took my rant that I was trying not to post. I agree with you 100%

if you've never seen it yet then in MY (likely unpopular) OPINION-you have to grab a copy of the movie 'drop dead gorgeous' b/c you will DIE laughing over a younger denise richards using a life size jesus on a rolling crucifix to whom she sings "you're just too good to be true" for her beauty pageant talent competition:crazy2::rotfl::rotfl:

in my opinion (unpopular per the critics) it's a cinematic classic:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I LOVE that movie! Thanks for the suggestion. The hellions are asleep...I mean the boys are asleep, so I can watch an inappropriate movie. South Park did an episode on it. So funny and sadly very true.

I'll have to watch that. It sounds familiar and I think I may have watched it years ago. But it sounds like too many actual church services I have attended. Too creepy when it's a real church service.

The posts about who is or is not closed on Thanksgiving are popping up on facebook again.
I feel it is pretty disingenuous to get so up in arms over people being denied the chance to have that one particular day off a year "to spend with family" And why pick a holiday which falls on a Thursday and is followed directly by a day when virtually every retail employee must work(other than REI's--I do like that they are closing both Thanksgiving and BlackFriday)? That means anyone who does not live very near family really has no chance to get there for a visit on the Thursday holiday anyway.

I would be right there with you if you were encouraging retailers to close for EVERY federal holiday. More so if you included one regular weekend day as well. But, you know, most of the outraged Thanksgiving folks want to shop when and where they want the other 364 days year. So the whole movement comes across as kind of hallow and band wagonish.

We don't need the Federal Government to design our damn gas cans. They've taken a simple can that only a moron could have a problem with and made it unsafe - all in the name of safety.

(OK, I cheated - that one isn't unpopular)

I will say I am glad for my state (MA) on this one. the only reason I have DH with me on Thanksgiving is that MA won't allow stores to be open or even to require employees to work on Thanksgiving (Christmas too but most places aren't fighting that one) there is a list of types of establishments that are considered essential and able to be open on those days (Like gas stations) and everything else can't be.

We do leave thanksgiving celebrations a bit earlier then most of the other family since he generally has to be at work at 12:30 (Since Target would get huge fines for having employees in on thanksgiving managers come in at 12:15 to open the doors and the rest of the employees get there at 12:30, I think the store opens at 1:00) but other then that we do get to enjoy the holiday together.

However my husband also does get one regular weekend day and only works most other federal holidays if they fall on days he would normally work. So most of the Monday holidays he works but frankly we wouldn't do anything for labor day anyway.

Anyone who thinks science can be used to "prove anything" has no idea how the process works. The media does a terrible job reporting science, often getting things blatantly wrong. But, hey, reading about something for twenty minutes on Google is totally as good as a PhD.

Also, people who think that there is some conspiracy among scientists has never met a grad student who's funding is based on publication. If they can get a paper out of it, a grad student will climb over the dead bodies of their supervisors and co-workers to get information out there.

Mine:

Giving everyone a trophy is stupid. Now giving everyone a smaller participation award is ok. Like how running a race sometimes gives a completion medal then prizes for the fastest. HOwever its not wrong to give the winners something cooler.

Everyone is not equal. Sorry its just not true. Even when your 5. Someone is better at math, someone else better at drawing, and someone else better at baseball. This is all ok and you don't have to be good at everything.

Being PC is stupid. My first lesson I remember on this was in middle school when for Black History Month (note the name) we had to write a report on a "Person of color" but we couldn't call them "Colored People" or "Black" it had to be "Person of Color". So for Black History Month I was expected to write a report about (in my case) someone who helped found the NAACP (CP = Colored People). Without refering to them as Black or Colored. (I also wanted to point out that white is a color so aren't all people "of color".

Which gets me to the PC thing about saying "A student that is blind" instead of "a blind student" Yeah I know there is some BS about the first one being "people first language". However I think this is complete garbage. I'm sorry we speak English and the English language uses a syntax where adjectives go before the nouns they describe. Now if we were all speaking spanish that puts the adjectives after no one would make up this PC bull because we would put the adjectives after. Stop being upset because you speak a language with this syntax. They both mean the same thing.
