Your ULTIMATE SURVIVAL GUIDE to Disney World at Christmas Time! UPDATE x2 10/21

Chapter 88: I'm on a Mission to See it All!
December 30th, 2011

When we pulled into the Contemporary, this little boy said, “Daddy, why did they just say ‘Welcome Home?’” hahaha oh little boy. You have so much to learn.

lol that sounds almost like my nephew we took him when he was 4 and the first night coming back to the resort it said welcome home and he busted out crying. So after we are like freaking out trying to figure out whats wrong He didn't fall or anything, it's our 1st night surley he's not home sick already, we finally got him to tell us and he said I don't wanna go home. :) lol poor kid 4 years old and already had the disney bug.

That charm bracelet is so cute!! Ahh I would probably get too hungry wearing it though!

Ahhhh i love the themed Christmas trees! Especially the AK one!
There is so much detail in them you can just stare at them for hours!

The Dapper Dans are so amazing! They just make me so ridiculously happy :goodvibes And their jokes are the best! Everyone loves corny dad/grandpa jokes!

Thos 'edible' clouds look so pretty!

Main Street at dusk is incredible! It's so magical when the castle lights start to come on! :goodvibes

I do love this trip report - makes me want to go to Disney for Christmas. And as for the tales of the Bay Lake Tower? We may now be looking at possibly DVC - ing and making that our home. How beautiful is that view?

THanks so much for your detailed trip reports, they really are beyond helpful.

Thank you! I would definitely consider it - this was our most magical trip ever! If you can make Bay Lake Tower your home that would be INCREDIBLE! I am so happy that it is ours. :goodvibes I don't know how much availability is left there, though. You'll have to check it out!

Aww you're welcome! Thank you for reading them and for the compliments! They are much appreciated!

Prior to this TR, all I thought about Disney at Xmas was huge, miserable crowds. Maybe it isn't do bad after all.

If you plan it right, it can be the best trip of your life. It definitely was for me! :wizard:

The Dapper Dans are literally my FAVORITE. I just love them with my whole heart!
Yes!
I know, I love it!

Great updates!!! LOVED the tree photos in AK. How clever! Gave me some wonderful ideas for our Disney themed tree in the family room. :thumbsup2

And how adorable is that food necklace?? Putting it on my "to shop for" list for our next trip because I want it for my daughter...the Disney cupcake queen.

Super cute photos of the Jammin' Jungle parade...Christmas edition!! I seriously want Minnie's jeep in my real life. How stinking fun would that be to drive around town???

Looking forward to more!!

So many updates!! Yay!! The hayride seems like something totally awesome, especially at christmas! But I do agree that the bus system there SUUUUCKS, boourns! I'm glad you guys made it back in time for another ride on TSM, you certainly got your fix on this trip haha.

You guys definitely saw it all! It all just looks so awesome,a great way to start a day with a VIP Jungle Cruise, that's great! I have to agree about the dole whip, the just pineapple is way too much for me, I always have to add in some vanilla, helps so much and makes it way tastier!

It was a really awesome experience! I'm glad you understand about the busses haha. Thank goodness everything worked out - even if we were SUPER crunched for time.
We tried our best! I was happy with all that I accomplished on that trip! And yes, that's definitely the way to eat a dole whip :thumbsup2

Chapter 89: Castle Lighting and Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater!
December 30th, 2011

It kept getting darker and darker and the CASTLE LIGHTING CEREMONY was about to begin!

dsc1043z.jpg

Every night at dusk they have the castle lighting ceremony and you are NOT going to want to miss it. I got VERY emotional when I watched this. It was one of those “Disney is incredible, there is nothing better, and everything is perfect” moments. I was so touched and I just bawled like a baby. It was SO beautiful!

dsc1054t.jpg

Basically the storyline was that Mickey and friends were arguing over how to decorate the castle. They thought it looked bare compared to the rest of the park. Some of their ideas were to make it look like a wreath, a candy cane, a present, popcorn, etc. Then Cinderella, Prince Charming, and the Fairy Godmother stepped in to help.

dsc1056g.jpg

Cinderella said she wanted the castle to shine like her glass slipper, so it was decided. The castle sparkled so beautifully.

dsc1066m.jpg

When Prince Charming and Cinderella came out I just lost it. Seriously, this show just hit me. It was only about 5-10 minutes long but it was one of the most magical things I have ever seen. Wow. Well done, Disney. You’ve captured my heart again.

dsc1067v.jpg

Christmas Tip #51: DO NOT miss the castle lighting ceremony at Magic Kingdom! It happens every night at dusk – the exact time will be on your Times Guide. It is absolutely magical beyond words.

dsc1062d.jpg

I posted on twitter:
Oh my gosh. Wow. That castle lighting ceremony made me cry like nothing else. #SObeautiful #merrychristmas <3

Once that was over, we fought our way through the crowds to the park exit.

I know what you're saying. "Whaaat? You’re not staying at the Magic Kingdom!? You just got there!

Nope, we had other plans in mind! I had a dinner to go to that I was anxiously awaiting!

We took the Ferry to the TTC. We waited for the bus and there were MICE under the bench. No, they were not Mickey or Minnie. Real, living, breathing rodents. IN DISNEY. All of the ladies standing around the bus stop were not big fans of that scenario.

One of the ladies we were chatting with said that while she was sitting on a bench, a squirrel came up and started scratching her leg like it was trying to get her attention! These animals are not afraid of people at all!

We took the bus to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! We met up with Dad and Jonathan at the gift shop under the hat. Yes, they FINALLY ventured out of the room and decided to have dinner with us on this night. It was a big deal.

Where were we dining on this glorious night?! SCI-FI DINE-IN THEATRE! Folks, it had been WAY too long since I had gone to Sci-Fi. I literally don’t even remember the last time I dined there. I was ridiculously excited!!

dsc00022xu.jpg

I posted on twitter:
Time to watch cheesy old movie clips and eat lots of food that is very bad for me (: #yay sci-fi YUM!

We arrived a few minutes early for our 7:30 pm ADR. We were seated within 5-10 minutes.

dsc00042gx.jpg

We sat in the first two rows of a pink car! Then this couple from England sat in the very last row.

dsc0009cc.jpg

dsc00102wa.jpg

dsc00122kv.jpg

Our waitress’ name was Veronica. She was very nice! She took our orders and we started watching our movie clips.

I posted on twitter:
Thank you sci fi for informing me how to avoid getting carbon monoxide poisoning. I love this place <3

BAHAHAHAHA "public displays of affection will not be tolerated here." oh sci fi you have the frumpiest random advertisements :P

dsc00182ec.jpg

Soon, Veronica brought us our drinks. Dad started off with a Strawberry Milkshake:

dsc00162xn.jpg

And Jonathan got a Chocolate Milkshake. He was a little disappointed because it was way too thick. However, Dad’s was the perfect consistency. Oh well.

dsc00152zm.jpg

Dad decided he wanted to get a salad for an appetizer. That dressing was AMAZING! Yum. Oh my gosh. Sci Fi, I love you. It looks like a balsamic vinaigrette of some sort.

dsc00142zq.jpg

Then... it was mealtime. I WAS SO READY FOR THIS.

For my dinner, I decided to order two appetizers. I got artichoke dip:

dsc00242ln.jpg

And onion rings.

dsc00252ma.jpg

Seriously, why WOULDN’T I do this!? These are two of my absolute favorite appetizers in the world and I would never be able to choose between the two. So I got both and ate them all and regret NOTHING. Sci-Fi honestly has the best onion rings on the entire planet. And that artichoke dip was PERFECTION! Like… this was probably one of my top favorite meals of the trip. I was just in heaven.

Mom got the Angus Chuck Cheese Burger. I imagine that it was delicious. Sci-Fi is known to have fantastic burgers! She also got a cucumber salad for her side!

dsc00212te.jpg

Jonathan got the Angus Chuck Double Cheese Burger. He really liked it! I doubt he finished the whole thing because it was HUGE. I had a bite and it was AMAZING.

dsc00232lr.jpg

He wanted to show you the actual size, so here’s a cheeseburger side view photo:

dsc00262tt.jpg

Dad got the Shrimp Pasta for his dinner! He really liked this dish. I sampled some of that too and MAN it was good! Sci-Fi was just winning for us on this night.

dsc00222sg.jpg

For dessert I got the Red Velvet Cheesecake that was recently added to the menu. It looked different than I expected, but it tasted SO good!

I posted on twitter:
I GOT A FREE GLOW BRACELET WITH MY RED VELVET CHEESECAKE! Best dessert ever!!!

dsc00282u.jpg

Jonathan got the Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake which he really liked! He’s not a big dessert person, so the fact that he liked this was a big deal.

dsc00272ou.jpg

Overview of Sci-Fi Dine-In:
Waitress: Veronica
Service: Good! She was really nice and made sure we were all taken care of! 4.5/5
Atmosphere: This restaurant has one of the best atmospheres in all of Disney! I LOVE those movies so much and they have the funniest little ads. 5/5
Food: I don’t care what any review says, I thought it was excellent. It’s nothing fancy but it’s GOOD! I absolutely was in love with my dinner. 5/5

The couple behind us in our car talked to Mom and Dad throughout the meal. The guy was in the insurance business just like my Dad! What a coincidence! The flight to WDW took them 9 hours since they were from England. They didn’t get to go on Toy Story Mania, so Dad let one of them take his spot on our five person fastpass after dinner! They were so excited!

We headed right to Toy Story with our new friends once we finished up. I told the cast member we could be split up and we got sent up the short line! YEAH YEAH workin’ my toy story magic.

I didn’t do as well this round… I think my arm was getting tired or something. It was still pretty good though!

dsc00292bv.jpg

TOY STORY MANIA RIDE COUNT: 9

Our new little English friends offered to buy us drinks for giving them the fastpasses but we passed. They were so cute and I hope they had fun!

We walked through the Osborne Lights and then headed for the exit. We got on the bus and rode home.

I posted on twitter:
My Dad just said "forgetta bout it" when he saw the line for the TTC bus and I just went into the whole Stacey spiel. #disneyfreak

I made a little friend on the bus named Julie and she was chatting with me about how Selena Gomez and Justin Beiber broke up. (did that even happen?) I also told her about how Katy Perry and Russel got divorced. She was really cute. She was in 3rd grade and was home schooled. Her mom studied theatre and loved Shakespeare!

We got back to the Contemporary. Dad and I were going to go to the Magic Kingdom to use our Space Mountain fastpasses, but we were too tired. We gave them (as well as an extra Splash Mountain fastpass we found at the TTC) to Julie’s family since they were heading to the Magic Kingdom. They thanked us!

We went to the room and Jon’s ear was hurting him. I watched Stacey, tried to catch up on my trip journal, and went to bed!

I posted on twitter:
MUST WATCH STACEY AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE BEFORE I HAVE TO LEAVE.

LOL have we ever wondered what Stacey's uncle Phil looks like? I have.

Then I tried to go to sleep. Then suddenly I heard this EXPLOSION outside. So Dad and I got up and looked out our window and Fantasy in the Sky fireworks were happening right then!

Oh my gosh, this was absolutely incredible. I was SO awe struck that I didn't even want to take myself away from it to go get my camera. (Don't worry, I photographed them on New Year's Eve! This was only the preview show.)

Looking at it from Bay Lake, you could see how the fireworks were shot from SO many different places absolutely SURROUNDING the Magic Kingdom! It didn't even feel like real life.

The fireworks were constant and they were BEAUTIFUL. My jaw just dropped. I couldn't even BELIEVE it!

Christmas Tip #52: They perform the Magic Kingdom New Year's Eve fireworks on December 30th as well. So if you want to see the preview show, they will be set off on this night!

I posted on twitter:
JUST SAW FANTASY IN THE SKY FROM MY WINDOW. HOLY GOD. OH MY GOD. My dad was just like "are we in heaven right now?" OH MY GOD.

It was seriously one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Dad legitimately was asking if we died and went to heaven. I wouldn't be surprised if we actually did.

The mice would have freaked me out! Disney squirrels are very friendly squirrels. When I worked at DHS and would open the merchandise carts before park opening squirrels would sometimes come right up and tap me on the foot/leg like they were trying to get my attention. I think they were used to getting fed by some cast members. Another morning I was opening up the Star Tours gift shop and a squirrel ran in, jumped up on a shelf, grabbed a full candy bar and ran out with it. Too funny! I had to mark it on our spoilage sheet so that the managers wouldn't think someone had stolen it and I'm not so sure they believed my squirrel excuse. haha... sorry for the rambling, but your story about the mice/squirrels just brought back those memories that I haven't thought about it ages.

Loving your trip report! I'm head over to check out your new one:)

Aww! I didn't even realize the Dapper Dans had Christmas outfits, that is too cute. I have to say, I love their normal outfits so much more though. Ca-LASS-ic.

I have to ask... HOW do you fit all the things you buy at Disney in your suitcase for home? Cause I love how you buy a lot of gifts for people and stuff but I don't know how I'd do it. Do you bring an extra bag or ship stuff home or just somehow shove it all in?

I didn't even know there was a Toy Story Mania deer pin, but life seems all the more beautiful now that I know this exists.

So happy to see all your parade pics! When we saw it, that was when my camera had died, so I have none! And aww, I love the Winnie the Pooh stockings on the back of Goofy's float. Didn't notice that before.

AHH I love those trees so much. So creative. And what the eff @ there being a bottle of booze on the CBJ/Frontierland/mystery tree. LMAO.

YAY another TR by you for me to read!! WooohooO! I like how you are currently running THREE trip reports. No one's mad.

Umm I teared up reading about the castle lighting. Omg I am so emotional about Disney I can't even talk about it. FLAW. LESS.

YESSSSSSS SCI FI MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT OF ALL TIME. I WILL BE THERE SO SOON. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. AHH. And of course you ordered my usual. Perfect food. Perfect place. PERFECTION ALL AROUND.

Lmao. They put a free bracelet on top of your dessert. Only in Disney.

That was so kind of your dad to let them take his spot for TSM! Aww.

If only Stacey's uncle Phil knew how famous he really is. :rotfl:

Hahaha oh my goodness, those stories are awesome! That is way too funny. Those squirrels are crazy! When did you work at DHS? Were you on a college program?
Thank you so much! I hope you like hearing about Hilton Head!

Aww! I didn't even realize the Dapper Dans had Christmas outfits, that is too cute. I have to say, I love their normal outfits so much more though. Ca-LASS-ic.

I know! They're adorable. I enjoy both outfits... I think the Christmas one is perfect for the occassion, but yes, the regular one is very classic!

I have to ask... HOW do you fit all the things you buy at Disney in your suitcase for home? Cause I love how you buy a lot of gifts for people and stuff but I don't know how I'd do it. Do you bring an extra bag or ship stuff home or just somehow shove it all in?

I honestly don't know. I have diagnosed myself with a Disney shopping problem... it's bad. :p Ah well. But I think what I usually do is just get a big shopping bag for any of the extra stuff and then use it as a carry on. It works!

I didn't even know there was a Toy Story Mania deer pin, but life seems all the more beautiful now that I know this exists.

RIGHT!? My two favorite things!

So happy to see all your parade pics! When we saw it, that was when my camera had died, so I have none! And aww, I love the Winnie the Pooh stockings on the back of Goofy's float. Didn't notice that before.

Thank you! Aww man, that stinks! I would be so mad. I know, that was adorable!

AHH I love those trees so much. So creative. And what the eff @ there being a bottle of booze on the CBJ/Frontierland/mystery tree. LMAO.

Bahaha the Country Bears are drunks! Don't you forget it! :lmao:

YAY another TR by you for me to read!! WooohooO! I like how you are currently running THREE trip reports. No one's mad.

Yeah, right!? And I'm going to have another one to start in October. It's okay though - this one is completely written and I just have to post the rest, hilton head's trip journal is typed up so I just have to edit/add pictures, and I only have to write half of the May one. AHH this is a full time job. :rotfl: But I like it.

Umm I teared up reading about the castle lighting. Omg I am so emotional about Disney I can't even talk about it. FLAW. LESS.

I KNOW. That was literally the most beautiful show I've ever seen.

YESSSSSSS SCI FI MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT OF ALL TIME. I WILL BE THERE SO SOON. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. AHH. And of course you ordered my usual. Perfect food. Perfect place. PERFECTION ALL AROUND.

I'm glad your trip report gave me that idea... because HELLO why order an entree when the appetizers are better!? Plus YOU CAN GET TWO! It's perfect.

Lmao. They put a free bracelet on top of your dessert. Only in Disney.

They're perfect.

That was so kind of your dad to let them take his spot for TSM! Aww.

I know, he's an angel!

If only Stacey's uncle Phil knew how famous he really is. :rotfl:

Bahaha I know! What a guy.

I agree, the castle lighting is the best thing ever. I will totally miss seeing that this year!

I'm with Jonathan... I was disappointed in my chocolate milkshake from Sci Fi as well. It tasted like a freaking Wendy's frosty... ehhh. My sister got an Oreo one and loved it. And this was two years ago so I guess it's a normal thing!

SCI FI IS AMAZING. I totally agree. People give it bad reviews? What is their deal??? Booooooo.

BAH FIREWORKS BAH. Seeing them from BLT has spoiled me forever and ever. I'm sure you can agree with that hahaha!

So firstly, get ready for the LONGEST comment ever!

Yay, can't wait to start reading your Hilton Head trip report! I loved seeing all your pics on instagram! BTW, you and Preston are SO adorable, you seem so happy and I think that is so sweet that he supports and gets into the disney obsession! :-) I know you must be excited to see him all the time once you go back to school!

I LOVE all the character themed Christmas trees in AK! They are so cool! I can't believe how much park hopping you guys did that day- sounds fun but tiring I'm sure! I am so glad you posted about your SciFi dinner- we LOVE the atmosphere there but weren't crazy about the food- now I know what to get! I am a huge fan of spinach/artichoke dip, so I think having appetizers for your meal is an awesome idea! I am also intrigued by that red velvet cheesecake!

Hearing about yours and marDgreen88's experiences at Bay Lake Tower makes me want to stay there SO much! The views seem so amazing!

Every night at dusk they have the castle lighting ceremony and you are NOT going to want to miss it. I got VERY emotional when I watched this. When Prince Charming and Cinderella came out I just lost it. Seriously, this show just hit me. It was only about 5-10 minutes long but it was one of the most magical things I have ever seen. Wow. Well done, Disney. You’ve captured my heart again.

dsc1067v.jpg

That looks beautiful! You know, if I meet Cinderella and Prince Charming at the Christmas party on my next trip, I'll tell her, "You made the right choice."

Fantasy In The Sky sounds amazing! Disney fireworks got me every time we saw them anyway, especially Wishes, but I bet the New Year's Eve ones are just the best.

So funny that there were mice at the bus stop (OK, not if you were there, I bet), DH and I commented that the only wildlife we ever saw around the transport areas were the little lizards! I always used to love looking for the little mice in the Tube stations in London, and you never see them any more. Maybe they have emigrated!

When we were sat waiting for Off Kilter in Epcot, we saw a couple of tame squirrels jumping onto a guy's knee and sharing his popcorn. We were sat next to a guy who used to work at a vet's surgery in the area, and he was telling us that all the Disney squirrels are called "Steve", and that they are the best looked-after wild animals in America. Apparently Disney pay the vet bills for any animals on their property, and he had treated a couple of squirrels from the cast member accomodation areas that CMs had taken in.

Love all your updates. That castle lightening ceremony truely is amazing!

Wow another TR- very impressive! Can't wait to read about your time there!

The castle lighting ceremony looks amazing!!
I LOVE that photo of Cinderella and Prince Charming! It gorgeous!

Awh maybe the mice and squirrels are just trying to be friendly... like they are in all the Disney movies! It really makes me think of the scene where they are all cleaning the apartment in enchanted :rotfl:

That food all looks so delicious! And any desert where you get a glow in the dark bracelet is already a win in my books :thumbsup2

That is so sweet that your dad shared the FP!

Ahh i love the kids that randomly start chatting to you on Disney transport.
So cute! Last trip I had a little girl explain to me the plot of every single 'icarly' eppisode ever. It was cute! Lonngggggg but cute :lmao:

That is so amazing you could see them from your room!
I don't blame your dad for thinking he had died and gone to heaven!
It's a common thought in Disney :goodvibes

I agree, the castle lighting is the best thing ever. I will totally miss seeing that this year!

It really is!
I'm sorry that you were. It must just be the chocolate!
It's one of my top favorites! Yeah, they do. Because the food isn't super extraordinary. However, I'm kind of obsessed with it.
Oh I know, girl. I know. :rotfl:

I don't remember where the uncle Phil thing came from. Was she talking about one of the fish at the Seas or about something else?

She was like "that kinda looks like my uncle phil" when she was pointing at the Gorilla in Kilimanjaro Safaris.

So firstly, get ready for the LONGEST comment ever!

I believe that it was like $14 or $16. A little pricey for me when I knew I wouldn't wear it constantly, but I thought it was very cute!
Ahh make sure you see them next time! They are my FAVORITE!
Thank you!
I believe that Flynn Rider buses are used for training, perhaps?
It was! :lovestruc
Ahh I hope you love it as much as we did! The atmosphere is awesome in there!
Then I'm sure you'd love it!
I have lots of pictures coming your way from New Year's Eve!
Thank you!

Aww thank you so much! I'm glad you're looking forward to it! And ahh we are REALLY happy. :goodvibes I'm so lucky to have someone like him! Haha yes he loves the whole Disney thing. Yesterday when we were on the phone we talked about Disney pins for 45 minutes straight! :rotfl: And he said he's considering doing the college program. :thumbsup2 Clearly I'm having a good effect on this boy haha. And yes, I can't wait to go back to school! He's flying in ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!

Oh yes, it was REALLY tiring! But it had to be done! Oh yes, the appetizers are the way to go at Sci Fi! That was one of my top favorite Disney meals! And that cheesecake was divine!

Ahh Bay Lake Tower is beyond incredible! I hope you get to stay there someday!

That looks beautiful! You know, if I meet Cinderella and Prince Charming at the Christmas party on my next trip, I'll tell her, "You made the right choice."

Haha good idea!

They were STUNNING! I was just a mess. It's hard to describe how incredible they were!
Haha yeah there are so many little creatures running around Disney all the time.
Oh my goodness, that is SO interesting! Thank you so much for sharing that! Hahaha I am not surprised at all that Disney pays for vets to take care of their animals... everything needs to be perfect, even the squirrels! :rotfl:

Love all your updates. That castle lightening ceremony truely is amazing!

Thank you! I agree!

I know! The trip reports are never ending - but that's a good thing, right? :thumbsup2
Thank you! I love that picture too!
Hahaha Disney animals are always friendly, of course!
Definitely! I always love free things! haha
Oh I know, they're precious. My Mom ALWAYS starts chatting with people on the busses haha. We've had plenty of conversations similar to that!
Yes, it was amazing!! Hahaha it didn't even seem real!

Even if I do get a chance to watch the castle lighting in November (I better!), I will bawl my eyes out and it will be nothing new since I cry like every 2 seconds in Disney anyways.

I cannot think that I have ever even been to Sci Fi! Why, I have no clue. I need to go. Like, now.

I have an obsession with artichoke dip and I heard it was REALLY good at Sci Fi. I NEED TO TRY IT.

SO IT’S NOT JUST ME WHO WONDERS WHAT UNCLE PHIL LOOKS LIKE. I kinda want to meet him…but Stacey is like the #1 person I want to meet. Then Uncle Phil of course.
