Your opinion on "age-appropriate" dressing??

Weird, I'm 5'10" and a size 12, which is why I always have loved Banana Republic...to me they seem like they cater to the taller woman. I'm surprised to see petite women saying otherwise.

Harumph.

Here I am on my 49th birthday - my kids take a photo of my in front of the roses each year:

Now ladies, honestly...should I put away those jeans?

Tim Gunn, if you want me to put on high waisted mom jeans, you better have your designers make some in a size 0. Make it work!

You're gorgeous, and NO do not stop wearing those jeans. You look awesome! :thumbsup2

At 5'7" I think that's why I loved their pants so much. They were perfect for me. But the 6 was just a tad to clingy and the 10 was way to big and I couldn't find an 8 to save my soul!

I am pretty sure that most of what is in the outlet does not come from their regular stores (Gap outlet, Old Navy outlet are the same way). However, when I do go into the regular Banana Republic I "LOVE" their stuff, but I do get a bit of sticker shock. I told my daughter that Banana Republic is the old people's Abercrombie and Fitch!!

:lmao: Love it!

There are pricey, I have to admit. BUT - I paid $120 for a pair of dress slacks about three years ago, and I still wear them, they still look brand-new, and best yet, they're still in style! I'd say they're properly amortized!

Maybe I should just go back there and splurge.

Go for it! Blame it on me! :thumbsup2

I think it's strange too, because up until this year, everything was the right length. Now it's all too long for me. :sad1:

I have a client who actually reminds me of Judi :) and she is tall (probably 5'9" or 5'10") and she wears Banana Republic all the time and everything looks good and very classic on her. I would think that being that tall might give you a fit shopping but at that store, it seems perfect!

I shopped at a Banana Republic in PF when I met Judi as a matter of fact. I bought two tops in there for 10.00 a piece and wore them out (years of wear). I actually had to throw my fav (soft pink) away because I got haircolor all over the sleeve! (Darn!)
I think you should try B.R., Christine!

I don't remember us going in B.R.....might have been I was too consumed with those metalic silver platforms I bought at the shoe store....I just wore them the other day and thought about our trip. :goodvibes

You are right, being tall can be a big pain when it comes to shopping, even in stores that have long sizes. I can't wear anything that is boxy in shape, and so much of what is out there is boxy. I can never wear anything at Talbots for that reason, their stuff just seems to be cut to the shorter woman. There are a lot of other stores where I seem to have that problem as well, but Banana Republic, J. Crew and Eddie Bauer have been the exception for me over the years. I'm guaranteed to walk out a heck of a lot poorer than when I walked in. :teeth:

Thank you! Actually, gorgeous is far from what I am. That is a flattering picture but you can't really see my big buck teeth and my lack of chinnage area. And, my hair is nearly uncontrollable - I had just come from the salon that day. :) One day out of every six weeks it looks good.

I just think making pronouncements that "anybody over 40 shouldn't wear XX" is plain stupid, even from a clothing professional or designer.

If any woman on here thinks she shouldn't wear capris or low rise jeans because Tim Gunn says so, turn off your TVs. :happytv:

He's not exactly the person I'd be taking fashion advice from to begin with.

This thread has been very dangerous for me this afternoon. I'm going to blame you all when I get a package from Banana Republic in a few days. :guilty:
