Hey everyone! My holidy ebay plans hit a wall this week when I was unexpectedly hospitalized for appendicitis! I will have all I can do to get out the things people already bought but hope to be well enough to get at least a little more listed and sold during the rush. I am so disappointed!

Cpl100 sorry to hear about your troubles. Hope your feeling better and hopefully you'll be up and about as usual.

I have 1 auction up and its ending tonight. It has bids on it, so I'm hoping they pay instantly. I'm also waiting for 1 payment from an auction that ended last week. It'll be great if they pay at the same time so I can run the items off to the post office together. I won't be listing any more items for the rest of the month. I have sooo much going on with the holidays I won't have time for anything ebay. I have 4 holiday parties and 1 broadway play to go to, so between looking for outfits, X-mas shopping, holiday baking and cooking I won't be able to manage. I'll be lurking on the boards to see how everyone is doing and I wish for all of you to see more $$$$ then ever before. Good luck everyone with your holiday sales.

Denise

I had one of these last year. It was the womans sister who wrote me and said that her sister had died. (Or at least that is who I think it was.)

Since it was only for a $1.50 trading card, I really didn't think anything of it. Since I had already the filled a NPB paper work(seeing how it taken a month just to get the one e-mail), I just filled out the stuff to get my final auction fees back. Then I left them neautral feedback saying that I was sorry about the woman passing.

Then, I get an e-mail from the woman, asking me what I ment about the feedback that I had left. I wrote her back saying that some one had writen me an e-mail saying that she was dead, so the item would not be needed, and they said that they were your sister.

Well, she ended up sending me cash in the mail for the card. Nearly six weeks after the auction had ended. :rolleyes

We all know that eBay has gone worldwide, correct?

Well - did you know that it also extends to the hereafter??? Yup! And I have the proof !!!!

Back in October I had someone win one of my auctions. She turned out to be a NPB. I sent email after email and because we're both on AOL I was able to determine that she was in fact reading the emails - just not responding..

A couple of weeks ago I finally sent an email stating that I would be filing an NPB the next day and lo and behold, I got a response! It went something like this:

sorry,
she died last week

---------------------------

That was it - no further explanation.. Don't ask me why, but I smelled a "rat", so I went ahead and filed the NPB..

Tonight I was doing some paper work and came across her user ID so I decided to check her out again..

Ummmm...she's been bidding and buying the SAME type of items that she bid on of mine like crazy all week!
---------------------------------

So there you have it - eBay has branched out to the heavens (and probably the "other" place as well)..
-------------------------------------

I'm dying (no pun intended) to leave some kind of feedback in terms of her "death" but just can't come up with anything that's "catchy" enough..

Any ideas?

I'd leave a Neg with, "Bidder allegedly died, but is still bidding. Good to know afterlife has eBay!"

That is 78 characters and you have 80 to work with. Have fun, and let us know what you decide on!

On the back of the Sunday Office Max flier there was a coupon for Airborne Express, offering "ship one package, get the 2nd shipment free (up to $10 value). Valid through 12/6/03.... Hope this helps someone!! Also, they had mailing supplies "buy 1, get 1 free" and "buy 2 get 1 free", as well as sales on scales and labels. Check it out if you need padded envelopes, bubble wrap, peanuts, tape, etc.....P;)

So sorry for your setback! Hope your recovery is easy and you are back to normal very soon!

Sounds like the ebay bug has bitten you pretty hard, and it is a real sign of your integrity that you are concerned about getting your items shipped out. Good luck with that!

Here's some pixie dust for a smooth recovery!

I am hoping you experts can help me. I sold some vouchers on DIS auctions. I need to know what you think is the best/cheapest/safest way to mail/ship them. I went to the post office today, and said I wanted confirmation and insurance on $80, and he said the cost would be around $10, and the insurance would not cover the value of the voucher, just the voucher itself?! I never mail or ship things like this, so I had no idea if he knew what he was talking about. Seems silly to me, but..
For that much $$, should I just use fedex or ups? Some of these are going to Canada.

Help!

Help!

Can you print a shipping label at www.usps.com? That would save the DC fee. Can the voucher ship in the flat-rate Priority envelope? $3.85 plus insurance would be you bill. Please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not the resident expert.

**edited to add:
$3.85 for shipping in Priority flat-rate envelope + $2.20 insurance (on items valued 50.01-100.00) + free DC if you print label at USPS.com = $6.05

Is that true what the mail guy said about insurance? That the USPS would not cover the value of the voucher? If they don't, then there is not really any point in getting it, or maybe I should use someone else?

Well, I have some good news. I enlisted hubby and both boys to help me today and I sent out all the packages (in two trips to PO) that didn't have 'issues'. Issues you say? Oh, like, the address on their envelope is different from ebay's one, sent a check when I don't take checks, I thought I had the money order and made up the box only to find that I'm still awaiting the money order.....

Now I just have to get in touch with those who should have paid by now and haven't and that should wrap it up for a bit.

And it's not that easy to concentrate when they send you home from the hospital with a big bottle of pink happy pills for the pain! lol

So, I've decided to list some more things.

And, yes, you've got it right... The ebay bug has bitten me hard!

Now I'm thinking of looking into that stamps.com thing where you can get the free scale if you join for a month. I know it was posted back a bit!

I'm trying to stop selling on ebay for awhile til the holidays pass, but I just got an email from a buyer who received a collectors plate in 20 or so pieces. I know I packed it right. I put it in a double box with bubble wrap and it was secure. Thank God for insurance. Can someone tell me if I go to the post office to put in a claim. This is my first insurance claim and I'm clueless. Thanks so much, I'll be waiting to hear before I email the buyer. TIA

Denise

I am pretty sure that the buyer will need to go to the PO to file the claim, they need to bring the item with them and I believe the packaging.

I have never filed an insurance claim (thank goodness) so I am sure someone with experience can help you more then I.

Hey C.Ann - I had the same thing happen to me!
A little more convuluted, but another death...
She purchased several *women's clothing* items in one week, paid a little late (within 10 days via paypal), and said she had hurt her ankle, had to have surgery etc., and then won another bunch of items. She was bidding like crazy and had pages and pages of active auction she was bidding on and had gotten about 300 feedbacks (all positive before the second group she won) in a short period of a month. She finally sent an email saying she'd pay. She paid by echeck which didn't clear first go round and then finally was totally rejected. She was then NARU'd. She then emailed saying she would send a money order. Yeah riiiight.. So I waited and waited, and a week or so later I sent her an email asking when she sent the money order. I got a couple emails back saying that her "estate" would have to deal with me. And then I found out that she was a HE! Winning women's clothing...and a cross dresser.
So I bet he/she is still bidding on stuff out there.... I haven't tried to track him/her, but I thought it was pretty interesting.

Bummer, Denise! I can help you - it is the recipient of the merchandise who must make the claim. You will need to provide the buyer with your receipt from the P.O. including the insurance receipt. If it was under $50 in value, it was green. This is where you stated the value of the item, and that is the amount the person will be able to file the claim for.
The buyer will then take this along with an invoice and the broken plate and all packaging to the P.O., where it will be inspected (by the Postmaster?) to validate the claim. I assume then the buyer gets money.

I once sold a vintage lunchbox with Thermos. This is the email I got:
Hi,
I received the item, but unfortunately the thermos arrived broken.
Please send me the original insurance receipt with your signed invoice (No
Paypal payment copy) to the below.

your invoice with
date: 9/28/03
your name & address:
sold to: Susan. Xxxxxxxx
5708 Xxxx xxxx Ave.
Xxx Xxxxxxx, CA 90XXX
item description: vintage metal lunchbox and thermos set
amount: $19.55(please do not break it down)
your signature

I sent all that was requested and never heard another word about it. I had insured for $20, so I assume that by sending the invoice with the lump sum amount, she got back her S&H fees and I didnt have to pay them. I thought it was fair.

HTH Good luck!

And enjoy your holidays, Denise... I'll miss checking out your auctions! "Trendy" - love it :cool2:

I know I sold a set of Hersheypark tickets before and was told that they could not be insured. The postal employee said that something could only be insured for its "physical value" or something to that effect, and that the tickets were only pieces of paper and therefore had no "real value."

Maybe someone else could explain it better, but that's pretty much what I was told at the time.

Hello all,

Thanks for inspiring me to get back on the eBay wagon.

It's been well over a year since I sold anything on eBay. I started selling to get rid of stuff that I didn't need anymore but that I didn't have the heart to throw away.

But then I got lazy with listings and just threw a bunch of books and stuff on half.com which gave me sales every once in a while.

I have a bunch of stuff collecting dust in office/storage room that I keep adding to in the hopes that I would sell it on eBay eventually.

Well, my dh and I started watching "CleanSweep" on TLC. We keep laughing because all the clutter reminds us of our office. Our mess has actually gotten WORSE because I keep adding stuff to eBay but I never get around to it. DH adds to the clutter by collecting computer parts to build his custom computer.

So we decided to do I own SLOWMO CleanSweep (the show's sort and yardsale just looked toooo painful for us packrats). Anyways, we have to throwout, give away, sell, or plain get rid of at least one major item per person (dh and me) each week.

So, besides throwing stuff out to clear out the clutter, it's time to get back to selling on eBay to clear out the office! I've forgotten everything about selling and I think some things have changed since last year? So, where do I go to start up again? This thread, of course!

This thread IS WAY TOO LONG!!! Lol. I read the first few pages a few months ago but I could never catch up. Now I read from the end and work backwards! So forgive me if I ask questions already answered multiple times already.

Btw, thanks to Lollipop Mom for a great website!

So, sparedollar is good to look into? I want to get this thing going quick. Unfortunately, I am a bit of a perfectionist so listings take me a long time. My items aren't expensive so it is not cost effective. Time is money, especially since I work during the day.

At this point, it's not about the money/profit, although, I don't want to lose $$, just want to rid my house of clutter without having to throw stuff away! Need to find new, loving homes for all MY books/stuff.

Thanks again for the inspiration.

Thanks for your help. She's going to the postoffice today(she emailed me & told me). The item sold for 29.00 and I insured it for $50.00. I thought when you insure an item and pay 1.30 for insurance that the item is automaticly insured for 50.00 I didn't know that you can insure for for the exact amount(ex.29.00). Well if all goes well, she'll make a few dollars on the deal. I have to go to a few stores today and I'll make a copy of all my receipts(insurance & paid receipt) before I mail them to her. So after I do that, this mess will be out of my hands, right? Again, thanks again for the quick reply and help(as always)..

Good luck on your holiday sales

Denise

For that much $$, should I just use fedex or ups? Some of these are going to Canada.

If you send it UPS, they'll have to pay an additional fee (could be very high...can someone from Can answer this?). They would not be happy. UPS charges fees for filling out customs paperwork. It' sexpensive to send anythign to Canada, that needs sigs, or confirmation, so that is prob what you'll have to pay : (

I'm not responsible for the typo, but I found this on one of our local tv-station's website:

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOUR HOLIDAY MAIL GETS TO ITS DESTINATION ON TIME... MALE CARRIERS HAVE A MESSAGE FOR YOU: DON'T WAIT! -------- THE POSTAL SERVICE EXPECTS TO HANDLE BILLIONS OF PIECES OF MAIL THIS SEASON. DECEMBER 15TH IS EXPECTED TO BE THE HEAVIEST DROP-OFF DAY OF THE YEAR.. WITH AS MANY AS 900-MILLION PACKAGES MAILED. THE BUSIEST DELIVERY DATE IS EXPECTED TO BE DECEMBER 17TH.
