I need some help on shipping to Australia. I have a lot of 5 magazines and a bidder wants to know the shipping cost and exchange rate if she wins and sends a money order. How do I figure this out? I went to the USPS site, but I'm wondering which way do I ship it? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help!

As of today, the exchange rate was 1 Australian Dollar = $.70 USD...the exchange rate changes daily, you really cannot quote her a rate...so if you choose to sell to your potential bidder she will have to do the exchange rate at her bank the day that she purchases her money order. One thing you may want to do before you give her an okay to bid is call your bank and find out what type of money orders are cashable. (I have only done overseas through Paypal, so I can't help you with the type of money orders)
If your magazines weigh in at 4 lbs 1 oz. or more the shipping goes through the roof...if it is under that weight you can probably ship by Global Priority mail box for $27.00, or if they are thin enough to slip into a Large flat rate envelope about $9.00. You can call 1-800-275-8777 to get exact rates once you have a weight and size of shipping container that you will need...I would get accurate and exact info before you quote you potential bidder though....this kind of mistake could cost you a fortune!!

Ebay was having issues with the selling and bidding listing pages. As of about 11:55am PST ebay reported that everything should be working properly, but to expect some delays in updating all items on those pages.

I uploaded 15 items while the listings were invisible and they have yet to appear on My Ebay Selling page. I also relisted a number of items which also don't show.

I had the same problem---nothing on my buying, tracking or selling pages. It seems to be resolved now, though. My andale counter page was also blank during that time and is showing again now.

Also, during that time I was not able to add anything to my tracking page. Didn't try the others.

I have a question. I mailed a package to an APO AE address 10/7. The buyer still has not received it. I've never mailed to one of those before and have no idea where the package was going, but I assume it should have arrived by now. I do have the insurance slip just in case. What do I do now? I've never had to use the insurance before--is it something the buyer has to handle or do I file the claim?

Hope you made out good yesterday - sorry I couldn't get out there..

Hubby packed all the shipping materials..I guess I forgot to tell him you wouldn't be there..so we shared bags of them with some of the crafters who sell on eBay.

Not very windy here..but my sis is having big time trouble with AOL knocking her off.

As far as the APO package not being there yet. It's not trackable, and it could take a very long time. One I sent to a person in the middle of a sea somewhere, had to wait for a mail drop. And drop it they did. He reported it arrived safely, even after being dropped to the ship. I have no idea where he was, but it took about 6 weeks.

When you put someone on your block bidders list and they try to bid, what message do they get. I have an item up for auction. This one person didn't bid yet but has been emailing me questions. Believe, I don't mind questions at all, in fact I encourage them. The more questions asked before a bid or a sell is much better then aggrivatiion afterwards. But, I've described, explained and added more pictures to the listing so this person could see and know more about the item. The item has a start bid of 9.99, not much at all to me, but maybe to someone else. I understand they want to get their moneys worth, but I have a feeling that if this person does bid and wins, I'm going to be in for some kind of trouble after. So, I'm thinking of putting her on my block bidders list to avoid trouble. But, I would hate for the message to say something like " this seller has put you on a block and you can't bid", I think that sounds mean and rude. Any suggestions....Thanks

I don't know what kind of message they get, but I can tell you that I did that with someone that I just KNEW was going to be a problem right from the get-go.. If you think there's going to be trouble I would just go ahead and block them now to save yourself the aggravation later..

On another note...:teeth: It looks like the buyers are beginning to return! YEEEEESSSSSSSS! I put some stuff up Thursday night to run till tonight and with BIN's and things ending now I'm not doing too bad at all! Granted, most of the stuff I'm not getting a fortune for (although I think it's kind of funny that I put one thing up I got for 50 cents in a garage sale and it ended for over ten dollars!! ) but at least I'm moving some of the junk out of here!!

I think from now till Christmas I'm probably going to list every single day and have the auctions end whenever.. If I only do it weekly, there's not that many weeks left till Christmas!! I'll try to keep the stuff that ends on weekdays (other than Thursdays) to BIN's though rather than items I'm hoping will "bid up"..

How is everyone else doing tonight? Hope it's ALL "green" for you!! ::yes::

Everyone, be aware of this please. I believe I just received a fraud attempt by someone trying to gain access to my paypal account. There was a link in the email asking for all kinds of information including my password and even the pin to my debit card!

Remember that Paypal will never, ever ask for your password, so be very suspicious if you received anything from them that asks for it.

I have gotten one of those. I also got one for Ebay. And just a few days ago I got one that said that my credit card was going to canacelled if I didn't retuen the e-mail with all of the info they requested. I just sent them to the spam file to AOL.

Yes, I got one from Ebay too. I just heard from Paypal and it was definitely a fraud one. They want them reported to them so please report yours also (and anyone elses's) it to:

Hi, I have an off topic question. I know this doesn't belong here, and I promise not to make a habit of asking OT questions, but no one I know has used this product and I want to place a bid, but before I do I want to make sure its good.

Has anyone ever used the Tummy Trimmer. Its on the infomercial. It supposed to make your tummy look thinner.

I have so many dinners coming up with my husbands work partners, holiday dinners, friends gatherings, etc. You know all that stuff that comes along with the Holidays, and I want my stomach to look flatter, but I want to be able to breathe when I'm spoken to. All I need is for one of them to talk to me and I drop dead on the floor from lack of air. I'm not a large girl, but my stomach could use alittle help. And I'm too lazy to exercise.

So if anyone ever used this or knows if it works, please post, so I know to place a bid or save my money.

Thanks again,
Denise

I don't know if you have already bid on the tummy trimmer or not, but I just saw one listed in the CVS sunday sells ad. You might want to check that out. This way if you don't like it, you can return it.

I am having a hard time deciding how to list some Toy Story bedding items. Here's what I have to sell (everything is used but in good condition):
TS 2 Reversible comforter
TS sheet set
Red coordinating bedskirt
TS flannel sheet set
TS reversible accessory pillow
2 pairs of TS curtains
2 TS 2 valances
1 set of huge TS2 wall clings or stick ups

Normally I would list everything separately, but I am wondering what you guys think about listing it all as a huge lot? Everything was bought individually (except maybe the comforter & sheet set) so that is why I thought about individual auctions.....any opinions?

Okay. I admit I was a bit amused by other first-time eBayer'S sudden panic when they sold their first items, but now I have joined the group! HELLLLPPPPP!

Not really panic, more confusion. Part of which I created myself, since I offered three shipping options (Parcel Post or Priority mail through USPS or FedEx Residential Ground), all of which were based on Zone 8. I also offered to adjust shipping for addresses that are closer, since I am not trying to make money on shipping and handling, just cover costs.

Here is the confusion (I have never purchased from eBay, so everything is new!). Is there an "end of auction" notice one can send through eBay as opposed to an invoice, since I would like to obtain the shipping information before invoicing with the corect S&H.

And then, do I invoice through eBay or PayPal? I signed up for a PayPal premier account, recognizing through the posts from the experts that accepting credit cards was likely to increase the probability of sales.

All advice from experienced (including those who are new!) is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Karen:

I'm probably the least experienced eBayer here, so take my thoughts with several grains of salt!

This probably is the way I would list them:

Comforter(s) with bedskirt(s), and possibly accessory pillow(s).
Regular sheet set(s)
Flannel sheet set(s)
Window treatments
Wall decor

I would list the sheet sets separately because in some parts of the country we don't (or rarely) use flannel sheets. The window treatments are separated from the other items because window sizes vary drastically (older homes and colder climates seem to have smaller windows, newer homes, particularly in warmer climates, frequently have huge windows). The wall decor could do well on its own if someone wants a "touch" of Toy Story theming (knowing the child will outgrow it soon) rather than an entire room.

Keep in mind that I don't have children whining that they really, really, really, want something, so I think very logically about these things!

Just one opinion. Hope it helps!

This advice is just to help make the shipping easier for you. Why don't you just ship priority and parcel post....this way you could use the shipping calculator that ebay provides. All you would have to do is enter the weight of your item (complete with all packaging) and the calculator will do the rest for you. You may attract more potential bidders/buyers if they know their costs up front. You can also add into that a handling charge. This amount is not revealed through the calculator.........and the reason I suggest this is the next part of your question....

Here is the confusion (I have never purchased from eBay, so everything is new!). Is there an "end of auction" notice one can send through eBay as opposed to an invoice, since I would like to obtain the shipping information before invoicing with the corect S&H.

Once your item is closed and changes from your "sell" page to your "sold" page, and invoice icon will appear next to your sale which will allow you to generate an invoice with the correct shipping immediately....and if a buyer buys more than one of your items, it will automatically combine them (all you have to do is check off each item), and allow you to enter a combined shipping total. Sorry for all of that rambling.....
.Now, back to your question.
What I did before all of this was to send my buyer an email stating the auction, title of auction, total of bid and amount due for shipping. I would tell them that I accept paypal, and would include my paypal address. I would ask them to include all the information on their payment and if they wanted insurance to add that in as well. This would allow them to go to the paypal site and "send money" to pay for the auction.
You can also go to paypal yourself and send them an invoice....just include all the information so that you have a clear and accurate record. You would do this through the "request money" tab on your main page

For the listing of the TS bedroom items....I agree with Taja on her advice....nice and logical, just how I like it too!

I have bought and sold on E-bay for years and love it. If I can't find something I want in a store, I search for it on E-bay. I've only sold small items (new Disney videos, Barbie dolls, etc...) but I've bought antique china and other collectibles often. My brother is the biggest E-bayer I've ever known. He recently sold a car that he restored for $36,000.00 on E-bay. He didn't have any problems. It's pretty self explanatory if you go to the site and register to buy/sell. Good luck!

Someone asked about leaving feedback on the 90th day..I'm betting in hopes of the other person being too late to respond. This was on another list, so I thought I would post it here:

::to leave feedback after 90 days you go to the Feedback Forum and click
on the link that says "Leave feedback for a single transaction". As long as you
know the item number, you can leave the feedback.::

Thanks for the help with the TS items! I had not even thought about someone not needing flannel sheets (since it was 36 degrees here this am!) but that makes so much sense. I am going to list everything today and use what Taja posted-THANKS!

DMRick-thanks for posting that about the 90 mark, I had always assumed you couldn't leave it past 90 days at all..hmmm..interesting. I guess you learn something new every day!! :)

Thanks, Claudia for your advice. I offered the FedEx option because it's usually between the price of parcel post and priority for lighter items--and it's only .5 miles from my office! The post office is on the other side of the runway, so I have to leave the business park and drive around--about 5 miles! Enough whining! I think I'lll go with the calculator in the future, with FedEx an additional option on heavy items.

Okay, down to the nitty gritty question. When I invoice, how do I indicate my PayPal address? Do I just use my login? I've only used PayPal once to purchase a mail order item, and it was over a year ago, so I don't remember what information was provided.

All assistance is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Taja :sunny:

P.S. Karen: Our daily high temperature just dropped into the 80s this week. Last week our overnight lows were in the 80s!
