This is probably a truly dumb question. I have never before seen a postal money order but that is what I received in payment for my auction item. Can this be cashed at a bank or must I do it at a post office? Why would a person get this rather than a money order at their bank anyway?

Money orders can be purchased from many different sources. If it's a United States Postal MO it will say that on the front - and you can cash it either at the PO or at a bank..

All others can be cashed at your bank..

Thanks CAnn! I knew of course about regular money orders. I'm glad I do not have to make an extra trip to the post office to cash a money order. Actually, it would be kind of funny to cash the money order and mail the package at the same time. :D

Does anyone ever include a little "goody" or "treat" in the package that they are shipping out. I do....If I'm sending an item that is for a child I usually send 2-3 coloring sheets. I go to a site and make a few copies of coloring pages and include that in with the package, or if I'm sending a pair of shoes, I'll include foot pads, just alittle something extra, along with a note of thanks. I don't go out and purchase anything for the package, just some things I have around the house.(as for the foot pads, my feet always hurt me from the shoes I wear, so I always have extra (new) footpads available.. Oh, and lately I've been selling our old shoes that we don't wear anymore, and there selling..So if anyone is thinking about getting rid of shoes, they do sell...Just make sure to take an extra picture of the sole, because at first I didn't and was emailed for a picture, now I automatically include an extra picture of the soles in the listing...You'd be surprised at what shoes/sneakers, especially boots sell for...

Also, did anyone suffer from the "glitches" in the ebay auctions that ended this past Sunday & Monday? I'm pretty sure I would have done better if ebay was not having problems "again"

I don't think I had any effect..sales went well, and lots of buys on Sunday. Some people said their "my eBay" was showing no auctions, but search seemed to still be up, at least when I looked, and people were able to bid. Heck, maybe I would have done even better, if ebay was working well. People are definately buying for Christmas. For each item I'm selling, I've had at least 25% ask for more. Be sure to use your end of auction notes to your advantage...I put right in my notes, "be sure to check out our........".

One question I have on the auto shipping costs...is there a way to override or change the shipping, when items are combined? For instance, my items weigh 1.3 lbs..if they buy two, will they be charged for 2.6 lbs? And if you add $1.00 handling to each, will the calculater do that?

I may be changing to turbo lister, now that my web site is up, and i have a hosting place, but I sure will miss vendio and all the stuff they do autmatically! Bad time fo year for change.

I have a bunch more packing supplies..are you back to work CAnn? If so, I could drop them off.

What happens is that the page will have all the items your one buyer has won. All their items will show up, the first will be listed with the others following with boxes next to each item that you can click on to add them into the invoice. The shipping/handling box will have the first item shipping listed, but is changable, so you can add the correct shipping/handling. You will have to do a little work now...you must repackage your items, reweigh and then go to USPS site to enter buyer/seller zip to get your shipping cost, then you can add on your handling costs. Great tool though as you recieve only one payment, so you will save on your paypal fees. I believe they do it this was as they are assuming that you will be combing for a cheaper shipping cost.
If you do not combine shipping, then you could just check each listing and add all the shipping costs together.

C.Ann:

Love your "booo....hisss..! :D I thought I was the only one who used it! People think I'm crazy, but it's a way to vent--a nice alternative to profanity!

Claudia:

Thanks for bailing me out with PayPal. Ask me to write a business software application or operate a traditional business and I'm fine. Get me on the internet and the brain dies! :o

Next challenge: USPS Shipping Assistant. I was working with it this morning and everything was fine, then it decided to sit and stare at me (it froze). I didn't have time to fuss with it (had to earn my daily bread), so I'll try it again tonight after dog duty.

Thanks!

Taja :sunny:

then you can add on your handling costs. Great tool though as you recieve only

Thanks. So people, if they buy mulitples, can't go ahead and pay..they have to wait for me to pull up a form (what form..I havent' used ebay's invoice up til now) and change it? When they get the form, is the shipping and handling shown in two different columns?

Sent you a PM.. They're coming to get me to look at the house TONIGHT .. Have an appt. at 6:30 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DMRick: The form she is talking about is the invoice that ebay uses. At the end of the auction, you can invoice your customer. If the person has purchased more than one of your items, they will both show up in the invoice (when using turbolister, you get an end of auction notice sent to you. You have the option of clicking on a send invoice link). It doesn't matter which item you click on , all items that person has bought will show up in the invoice. Then you can choose which ones to invoice and adjust the shipping total. I use it and, it works really slick for me.

Hi everyone, does anyone know when the Christmas buyers really start in force?

Just wondering...

:)

Robin,
Good question! A few years ago, when the economy was better, Ebay was hot from Sept-May, and red-hot Oct-Jan. I am definitely not getting the Christmas rush on my auctions yet--maybe it depends on what you are selling. (In general, I think most people who buy my books are buying gifts for themselves, not for others).

Hi everyone, does anyone know when the Christmas buyers really start in force?

They started this week. I can usually tell, because they write and ask for several of the items I am selling and mention Christmas gifts. Once Halloween is done, the stores are puching it, and it's full thrust ahead for Christmas. We're ready for them!!

Same here, I got a few emails and they mentioned X-mas gifts. So maybe the X-mas buying season has started. Good Luck and lots of $$$$ for all of us selling....

Yes, good luck to all of us!

If I could make the sales year-round that I make in the 2 months around Christmas, I could quit my day job! I like what I do for a living, but I think I would LOVE to work for myself online full time! Anybody here a full-time Ebayer pulling down real money?

Got my first Buy It Now this week and then I got two more - It's so cool to wake up in the morning and see "Instant Purchase Payment" Now that's the way I like it.

Here's to the Christmas sales starting for everyone!!!

Looks like I may be going back to work again - 3 days a week.. My former supervisor called late today and begged me to come back after talking to the "higher ups".. I'm going to head over there on Monday to talk about what my terms are if they really want me back and I'm 99% sure they'll go for it.. I'm looking for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - and I'm pretty sure they'll give it to me.. I also have to make sure that they know that I have 3 airline tickets to Florida already paid for that would require me taking time off to make the trip somewhere between Feb and April and I won't compromise on that.. Either they let me have the time off, or I don't come back..

That still leaves me with Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to work my eBay, so I think it will work out okay..

Now - I have to start getting all of this "stuff" out of my house at a much faster rate because one way or another, I'm planning on being out of here by late spring or early fall at the latest.. I am talking a huge amount of stuff!!!! Any suggestions on speeding up this process? Can I put it in "wholesale lots" - or is that only for "new" stuff? There is going to be tons and tons of stuff that someone else can sell individually on eBay and probably make a decent amount of money on, but I just don't have the time to list it all and wait for auctions to end..

What would you folks do? I sure could use some advice here!

If you really don't have time to put up a ton of auctions..why not have an estate sale? Or an on site auction?

Or..when you think of it, when people work outside the home, they work for 8 hours. Why not spend one of those eight hour days doing nothing but listing? Then you can spend another 8 hour day, packing.

Good suggestions, DMRick! I think for the immediate moment I'm going to at least go ahead and list the stuff individually that I think will sell for Christmas and then maybe make up "boxes" of other stuff (you know - "like" items) to try to sell in lots.. However, I will definitely use the eBay postage calculator on THEM!! Wouldn't want to get beaten up on shipping out a 5 to 10 lb. box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ebay must've started the sub-titles on the auction listings. I saw one. It looks pretty good, but I think I read it 50cents per listing. Too much $$ for me.
