Christine..I hurt just thinking of you! Believe me, in a few days, you will be amazed..and just think, you have a good excuse to go bra-less now (inside joke for those who have had their gallbladder out). Be sure to not over do it..be sure hubby knows you need to have take out food every day so you don't over do it (LOL).
Oh..and you know how the doc prob told you you could eat anything? Most of us who have had our gb's out now know that most cheese is a no-no..just a heads up in case you are one of the no cheese eaters also.
I hope you at least asked them to save your smashed up stone..I am positive it doesn't look anything like you might have imagined..gross LOL!!
Glad ot have you well enough to join us!
I'll be in the world Sept 9-16th..and other eBay diser's going to be there at that time? Maybe we can meet for lunch.

Hopefully this isn't to forward, but I would love to see what others have up for sell on Ebay. If anyone wouldn't mind PMing me your ebay name so I can go browse, I would really appreciate it.
TIA

I have a shipping question...

I just sold an expensive antique vase on ebay. I was wondering if it should be sent via UPS instead of the Post Office. The vase sold for $125 and it would be nice to have the insurance built in the shipping cost.

Any thoughts?

Susan

How did your auction say it was going to be shipped? Lately most everything I have has been cheaper to ship USPO, even paying extra with insurance (which the buyers pay for). Insurance for UPS is free for the first $100..but you generally pay more to ship that way, so it's a wash.
Be sure you follow UPS (and post office if sent that way) rules for packing..they won't pay anything if it breaks and you don't.

Ebay works great! I used to collect the "dolls" (I SWEAR they're action figures!) called Living Dead Dolls. They were rather morbid and came in coffins. They have a huge cult following.
Anyway, the manufacturer's were coming out with more and more and more products that I realized these things were taking over my bedroom. I decided to sell them off and did so on Ebay.
For my entire set, I made $1,900! This easily paid for the bulk of our upcoming WDW trips this October.

Woo hoo!

Rick, that is great! I'm curious, though - did you sell the set as one listing, or did you break it up into lots?

How do you refund a Paypal payment? I just started accepting Paypal, and someone managed to pay me twice for the same item, I would like to refund one of the payments.

There is a place when you click on the payment that you want to refund. at the very bottom of all of it there will be a link that says refund payment. Just click on it and follow the directions!

After reading all these great and informative posts and after thinking about "trying" to sell on ebay for a short while now, I might take the plunge. I'm not the brightest card in the deck and everything being said here sounds pretty easy, but on ebay it sounds so hard. Insertion fees, final value fees, paypal fees, I'm lost. I have a disposable digital camera and just 3or 4 items that are in pretty good condition(halloween costumes) that I would love to sell. I've been reading all these posts for days and days and days and I'm getting the bug to do it. I get pretty lost when I read from the USPO site also. I have a dr. scale andif thats ok to use to weigh the items, then I'll use that, if not, then I'll be off to ebay looking for one that you all suggest. . I don't want to cheat anyone and I want to do this right, before I get into any trouble. Right now, just to start, I'm going to freshen all my items up, then I'll try and take pictures of them. I'll get a few boxes, some tape and labels. I'm a computer dummie and all this scares me. I can easily be talked out of doing this, so if you all think that selling on ebay isn't for everyone, PLEASE let me know. To my benefit, I can say that I'm a decent organizer and I don't think I'll have a problem on that end. Its just getting set up on the ebay site that I'm leary about. You all make this sound like a breeze and are having fun while making some $$ at the same time. Well, I've said enough for now, just want to introduce myself and give you all my thoughts....Thanks for listening.....

Welcome!! Now take a DEEP breath! LOL.. I know exactly how you feel - because that's the way I felt 4 months ago.. I was SOOO intimidated by all the info and instructions on eBay.. And I'm not very computer literate - and TOTALLY lost when it comes to digital cameras.. I had a HUGE incentive though.. I want to take my grown DD and my little granddaughter to Disney World in December (as a once-in-a-lifetime Christmas gift) and I had NO other way to come up with the money..

Soooooo.. I went and got a seperate checking account (with a debit card) for eBay - bought a cheapy $30 digital camera (on eBay) - got a 5lb. scale at Office Max - and one day just sat down and did it!!! Now mind you - I had been "contemplating" doing this (ie: PROCRASTINATING) for over a YEAR but wanting the trip so badly is what got me motivated.. I listed just ONE thing - and when it sold for more than I could have imagined I was hooked!! I've had lots of help and guidance along the way - from DMRick (an absolutely WONDERFUL, caring, PATIENT person) - and now that I started this thread to try to motivate and help others, there are more eBay veterans hopping on board that have been a tremendous help!!

You can do this! Really!! Just start with ONE thing if you're nervous and once you do it, you will see it's not NEARLY as complicated as it sounds on the eBay selling page..

And of course, come here with your questions and concerns.. We all have the same goal....................

We wanna go to Disney!!!!!!!!!

Yaaaaay eBay!!!

Hi, dg39, and glad to have you join us. Your timing is good if you want to sell Halloween costumes... you have a good month or so to prepare.

My best advice to you is to start buying on ebay before you try to sell. This will do several things for you:

1. get you started with a feedback score
2. get you familiar with how ebay feels and works
3. give you exposure to how you like to be treated as an ebay customer, so you can formulate some of your own selling policies from direct experience

Think about stuff you need to buy next week or for back to school, then start by seaching for the items you want. This will start giving you experience doing research.

ebay seems like a big maze when you start out, but after a while you'll find that everything you need to know is really there, just a matter of finding it. Oh, and be sure to go the the community forum and read the Answer Center Q&A boards. That has been tremendously helpful to me.

So, start shopping, and if the shopping experience scares you, then selling just may not be right for you. But if you win a few auctions and get comfy with the process, selling may just come to you as a natural next step.

Good luck!

I used to collect the "dolls" (I SWEAR they're action figures!) called Living Dead Dolls.

Oh, I think we discussed you on another eBay board I'm on...and another collector is tempted to put her daughter's set up LOL!

Yes, that is the kitchen sink (along with one of my darling grandsons) in my sig. The vouchers used to include it and we promised it to him before his last trip...he talked of nothing but, for weeks. He loved getting it, made a big dent in it!

I happen to think it's the most disgusting, melted, yucky, mixed together mash of things Disney sells..give me a banana split anytime!

Thanks for the quick responses to help. I have shopped on ebay. Not much around 40 items or so. After a few tries I got the hang of buying and fared that pretty good. I do already have the feedback from the buying. So I guess that part is taken care of, right? Or is feedback for sellers diff.? I'll take your advice and start soon by trying to sell only 1 item. If I can master that as well as buying on ebay then I'll add 1 or 2 more items after (if) that item sells. It'll probably take me a few days to start, but right before I put the item up on ebay, I'll post to make sure I did everything right. Thanks again..........

Well, then you are ahead of the game! Sorry to have assumed otherwise, but I know many people at work who, when they learn that I am doing this, say they are afraid even to shop on ebay.

The feedback rating for both buying and selling rolls up into one number, and if you look at your individual feedback list (click the number next to your screen name on ebay), one can distinguish between whether you were the buyer or seller in a given transaction. The benefit of having feedback established, even if only through buying, is that others can see that you've been around and aren't some newbie setting up an ID with the sole purpose of ripping people off. I'm personally more comfortable bidding in an item listed by an established buyer who is just starting to sell, than from someone brand new with 0 feedback. Others may feel differently, and you'll likely get other points of view here!

We live in a small city with a few different consignment shops. I tried last summer to sell some clothes on ebay, and I found that I didn't have much luck. I tried a few again this summer, and I still didn't have much luck. The stuff I sold this summer was brand new infant clothes with tags attached. The Children's Place brand. I know there is better, but I think it's good quality. I take good care of my clothes. What ends up with stains, does not stay in my house. It is sent off to Goodwill. I finally decided that the consignment shop was for me. However, my shop just closed, and the next big one is so big that I'm afraid my stuff will get lost in there.

So, I'm trying to decide if I want to try the ebay thing again. Right now the stuff that I've decided to give a trial run on are four size 2 outfits. Can you please give me some pointers? One is a Blue's Clues outfit that has purple pants, a white long sleeved shirt with Blue on it, and a satin baseball jacket that I believe has Blue on the back of it. It's in great condition. Is it too early to sell this? The other outfits are two piece outfits and more for Winter or cooler times. Do I sell them now? Should I forget ebay and do consignment again?

Sorry for babbling, just not too sure on this stuff.

Oh, before I quit :) How well do baby toys sell? I have some V-Tech, singing Barney, A Discovery Toys ball, etc. Should I group these or sell them seperately?

Nicole

Well if your opening bid is under $9.99, it's only going to cost you 30 cents to give it a try, so why not? You would probably spend more money in gas going to the consignment shop for a few items..

I'd research the toys - see how the do alone - and grouped..

Good luck - and hang in there!
-----------------------------------------------------

On another note - anyone having trouble with Turbo Lister today? Mine just keeps going round and round with listing number one.. Grrrr.. I wanted to get this stuff up today..

Can anyone that uses Turbo Lister tell me how I might be able to put more than 6 pictures in a listing? I have seen auctions that have like 20-30 pictures in it, which is close to what I am needing to do, and I don't know how I am going to accomplish this. I use an outside picture hosting so that isn't a problem. All your help is appreciated. Thanks, Sandy
