Thank you Doris... I thought it was going to be today...

After a killer month in listing fees... that will be nice to get a little breather!

(It was my most profitable month on Ebay, and still shocked at the postage fees and Ebay listing fees!)

Woohoo! Free listing day! :) Thanks for the heads up Doris! I was hoping to wake up to good news! :Pinkbounc

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday.

I had a few auctions end last night. Only one of them didn't sell. Of the items that ended, two sold at their opening bid, two sold with BIN.

Free Listing day . . . . . hmmmm:hyper:

Free listing day - huh? Well of course I'm TOTALLY unprepared..

So what did I do? Relisted a bunch of stuff and forgot about the time difference! Anyone on the west coast want to stay up and bid at 4 o'clock in the morning????????????????

My DD & her DH gave me an awesome digital camera for Christmas - and I don't have a clue how to use it.......

They also gave me a nice, big comfy office chair - so I can "eBay in comfort".. Hmmmmmm...I think they want me to make lots of money "because" ?????????????????????

----------------------------------------------------

I'm still overrun with "junk" here, so I think I'm going to take a different route with eBay from this point on.. I'm going to list an item - relist if it doesn't sell the first time around - and after that I'm going to pitch it (or donate it).. I can't keep saving all this stuff or I'll never get my house cleared out! My son-in-law is still looking for a new house with an in-law apartment and I just know that at any given moment the phone call is going to come, "Mom - put the house up for sale.." - and I'll be in a panic!

I did the same darn thing! Ah well, at least it was free and maybe we'll get some non-last-minute bidders *crossing fingers*

My suggestion would be to relist it the third time at a bargain price..since you are going to toss anyway.

The good part about stuff being put up today..is that when we relist next week, or whatever, stuff that didn't sell the first time, and it sells..we get the second listing returned..which means we get to list it twice. I recommend, if you have time, to make todays listings new listings, so you get that bonus!

I'm not sure I think this is ethical (actually, I'm sure it isn't), but one person said she listed stuff at a high price, and got the free listing..then went in and revised to the lower listing, and got credit on her invoice. Gee...could eBay really be that dumb LOL?

OK I'm taking the plunge. You have all inspired my DH and I and we are ready to get started. I've read through this info but have a couple questions.

1. We have a Paypal account which we've used for buying purposes. Do we need to do anything to be able to accept money as opposed to just using our paypal account for buying? Or is your account automatically available to do that?

2. I'd like to get started right away. Is it ok to use your primary account or is that just not safe at all? I would be a little weary of that but would consider doing it for a few weeks until we could get to the bank and open a new account. The other option is the Ebay ID Verify. Is that something to consider instead?

3. With Paypal I noticed your options were transferring money or using their debit card. What do you all suggest?

Any help would be so appreciated!

1. if you want to be able to take credit cards, you will have to change ot a business accoutn, which means you'll pay a fee if they do or don't use credit card. If you don't want to, make sure it's clear in your auctions that you don't accept credit cards. I personally feel it's worth the cost, as I think you get more impulse buyers.

2. I use my primary account as one of my Paypal accounts, and have for years. Several feel it's safer not to. It's really about your comfort level.

3. Although I have a debit card, and I understand that you get a small portion back into your account if you use the debit account when making purchases, I get more back from another credit card I use, than I get from Paypal. So again, it's whichever way would benefit you. I sweep my Paypal account into my checking account and do all my charging using a credit card that gives me 5% toward a GM vehicle.

Hope that helped some. Good luck and much success on eBay!! It's free listing today, so it's a good way to get your feet wet (listing only is free..not gallery, 10 day auction, etc).

Thank you so much. I think I will do it with our primary account  for now. I keep a close eye on our account so I feel I would know if something seemed suspicious. I think I'm ready to get started!!

Got 60 things listed today (maybe 20 were re-lists). That's with having company for several hours too! I'm ready to drop, but it's only midnight eastern... 3 more hours of listing time.... ;) who needs sleep, right? LOL. At least I've got 3 bids already! :Pinkbounc

Lori (who's not crazy, just a little un-well :) )

Very frustrating - I am moving slow as molasses here - why didn't i get this stuff ready when you guys mentioned it a week ago? STUPID!!!! At least I have about a dozen listed.

When is the next one? Mid-summer?

Well, I was some what ready for the free listing day. But I only got 211 items up. I was shooting for 300. I wounder if I really need those 8 hours of sleep?:p Oh well. ;)

But I already have three items with bids. That is a first for me. All my stuff normaly gets those last minute bidders, maybe this is a good sign. :)

I was able to put up a big ticket item. Well, its big to me. I have never listed anything as high as this one item. Sure hopes that it sells. Going to WDW in late Feb, and it could buy my AP, with money left over for my DLR trip in Aug. Keeping fingers crossed.

Well, good luck every one!
Hope all goes well, for all who listed! :hyper:  :hyper:

I am amazed at you all! I thought about it, but didn't get one thing listed! I can't even imagine having 100 things listed, let alone over 200! How on earth do you manage it when the listing ends all on the same day?

I didn't get anything listed yesterday. :( I've been battling the flu and just didn't have the energy or the desire to do it. But I know it was a great opportunity. I am soooo happy for those of you who got some stuff listed! I hope you all do really well.

My DH was so impressed that I was able to make enough money for our 4 day Thanksgiving trip (using NO money out of our regular account) that he agreed to another trip next August! Plus Universal out of our regular funds.

Maggie

But I know it was a great opportunity.

Aww..don't worry about not getting stuff up. Although I put up a lot yesterday, I'll continue to list (although we are going ot Dis the 13th so I have to watch the calendar) on other days. I'll also put up stuff on other days. Jan is one of my busiest months, EXCEPT for when all the "junk" is put up on free listing day.

Thanks again for the help - I managed to list only 4 smaller things yesterday but have a bid on three of them already! :Pinkbounc The first was the most time consuming but after that it was really easy! I must say Ebay has made it super easy to get started. That along with this unbelievably informative thread has got me started. I can see that this may be just as addictive as the DIS boards! :teeth:
I took your advice DMRick and updated my Paypal account to a "premiere" account so I can accept credit cards.
I'll let you all know how I did when my auction closes! :)

I had planned on getting stuff ready for ebay over the past couple weeks but didn't get anything listed at all. And I won't be able to get anything listed for about another 6 weeks (and believe me I "found" a lot of stuff to list) because I am unexpectedly moving. My Mom and Dad are moving to a smaller place and allowing us to rent their old place (for dirt cheap too). So I am just packing up and moving all my ebay stuff. And I am sure while packing/moving I will find more stuff to sell.

Well, I think I had 19 items in the end listed. If I had been smarter to begin with.......I had taken individual pics of my books then I figured out I was smarter to sell them by series (TimeLife). I would have saved about 1 1/2 hrs if I had smartened up quicker. I did list about a dozen postcards (just started at the front of the box and worked my way in). One of those has a bid already. Now I am really irritated that I didn't just start with those. Those are the most impractical things to list when you have to pay but I was a dummy. Also have a bid on the antique eye glasses.

Again, I believe they usually do this 2x? per year? Anyone know when the other time frame is?

People are bidding! :bounce: :Pinkbounc I've got several bids already (one of them on a higher priced item that I've been trying to unload for a while). Woohoo!

I think the other FLD is around July 4th or in June sometime? Maybe? They seem to like to stick it near a holiday when people are busy or unprepared for it.

cpl100 ~ I did 7 day auctions which will end next Friday. I'm off next Thursday & Friday for New Years, so that will make it easier to deal with a lot of auctions ending all on the same day. I check my auctions every evening and when I see that something has a bid, I'll pull it out and start to pack it up so that when everything ends, I'm mostly prepared.

Ugh, I went to WalMart and the mall today. What a nightmare  I'll stick to shopping on eBay thanks! :)

BTW - WalMart is having a good sale on big Rubbermaid totes. I got an 18 Gallon one for $3.97 but there were other sizes on sale as well. Great for storing eBay stuff waiting to be sold! I have a few that I stack in the closet in our spare bedroom and it keeps things tidy! HTH someone!
