You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

Well after spending some time bidding today - rather than selling - I think I may have discovered why the bids and the hits aren't coming in for so many people..

Let's start with the "search" function..

Type something in..
Wait 2 minutes for the search to complete..
Click on an auction..
Wait 2 minutes for the page to load..
Go back to the original page..
Go to page 2, 3, ......oops...now all you get is the word "previous" (in red) and you can't continue on to the other pages..

Find something to bid on..
Wait 2 minutes for page to load..
Place bid..
Sign in again..
Wait 1 minute for page to load..
Sign in again..
Wait 1 minute for bid to be confirmed..
(Repeat all of this as many times as you find something to bid on..)

It's taking FOREVER to try to find anything, load the pages (the few pages you CAN load), and to bid on it.. It's ridiculous!!

-------------------------

Relisting?? I just spent 35 minutes trying to relist 4 items !!!! Loading took FOREVER - then I kept getting blank pages - and I must have had to sign in at least 10 times!!!

------------------

If all of that wasn't aggravating enough, I got emails tonight from a two people who had tried to use BIN this week but because of the every-other-day problems with accessing Paypal they got ticked off at ME and decided not to bid at all!!

---------------------

Has eBay decided to just settle for listing fees, all the "extras" fees, and relisiting fees - and the heck with anything getting sold or not?? The whole eBay/Paypal system is in shambles at the worst possible time and yet it doesn't seem to phase them at all..

What's up with that ???????

I wish they hadn't tried to fix what WASN'T broken several months ago - eBay worked a whole lot better back then!!!

Tell me about it! I made the mistake of "browsing" the little girls' dresses tonight...there are some GORGEOUS holiday dresses listed! (As if DD doesn't already own enough dresses for a dozen girls!?! )

"Luckily" I lost on a couple, a couple haven't ended yet, and I've got a LOT on my "watch" list. Hopefully I'll wake up tomorrow and realize that we don't NEED any more dresses, then delete them...like that's gonna happen!?!

I went kind of crazy last January...what else is there to do then? I bought something like 25-30 summer dresses for her. Then she stayed little and never grew into them! They are now boxed up hoping she'll wear them next summer!

I need to go to bed...LOL

I'm only having the problems you are mentioning, if I use AOL. No problems with road runner, or IE itself. I relisted about 50 things I think tonight..went right through. I also have been doing a lot of searches, in prep for some older things I'm going to put up.

AOL..now, that's another story. Slow as can be.I put in several bids tonight under my bidding name (see folks..you should have two names..and keep one secret from your friends and family, who you don't want to know what you are selling/bidding LOL)...sailed through it with road runner...after giving up with aol (and my aol is cable..still slower and gets stuck).

I also listed a bit last night and had no problems with ebay, just one with TurboLister. After preparing and uploading a few listings, one of them gave me a fee calculation of $20.30 :earseek: !!!

I exited and restarted TL, checked the listing, couldn't find a thing wrong with it... so put up the item in the normal ebay wizard method ( :headache: ), and the fee was .60! Phew! Went back and tried TL again after that and it was fine!

I have a high-speed cable connection and no AOL, FYI. Hope it gets better for you C.Ann, and the rest of you with AOL!

I had no trouble listing or checking things out last night. I have broadband and no AOL. Although AOL used to be 'it' I wonder now why anyone still has it since it seems to have lots of problems including interface problems with several types of web boards. Just curious.

Last night I sold a coat that I now realize I put a low amount on shipping. I know that because I jus shipped a smaller coat and the parcel post cost was about what I listed for this bigger coat. I sent the smaller coat Priority (had collected more in ship fee and figured the person would like it soon). Here is my question... Should I email the buyer that the coat will be shipped parcel post for that rate and see what they say (and offer to ship Priority if she asks for it--for more $)? Or is that a no no, to change the deal after it ends?

Thanks all!

I had alot of items end last night and most of them did really well. This morning one of the winners emailed me and said they were really sorry but they could get the item for less new and so they weren't going to pay. What would you all do?

If you stated the item would be send priority and gave the amount of shipping then you need to ship it priority, regardless of your error. If you did not specify how it would be shipped, then you are free to ship it parcel and give the option to upgrade (I have found that most would rather have it cheap rather then quick). But you do have to follow whatever you stated in the auction.

Thankfully, I just gave a shipping price but didn't state a method!

I decided to email the buyer with an explanation and giving her the option. I told her I'd make an extra trip to the post office if she wants it Priority and charge her the actual cost.

I'm not the expert - but a bid is a contract. I'll let one of the more experienced sellers answer as to whether the buyer can retract the bid or if you can offer the item to the next highest bidder. You will probably find info at www.ebay.com as well.

I would remind the buyer that a bid is a contract and that while this is an unfortunate situation, the person needs to make good on the bid. I would also weigh in my decision whether I had other bidders and if the 2nd highest bid is very close to the winning bid. It may be more convenient for you to simply make a 2nd chance offer and be done with it, then to dicker back and forth and waste your time waiting for this person to pay while your 2nd highest bidder looses interest.

That said, it's best for all the sellers out there if we follow the NPB process so deadbeats are subject to suspension by ebay when they don't follow the rules.

Tell the buyer that if they choose to not pay you will be forced to to a nonpaying bidder alert on them to recover your fees. It is up to you whether you feel you should leave negative feedback. But the important things is to to the NPB and file to request your fees. The requesting of the fees is what makes a NPB alert an actual NPB'er.

I am starting to get scared that the buyer of my magazines won't follow through. I haven't heard from him since I sent him the invoice on Monday. I checked his feeback and he has gotten feedback from auctions that on Wednesday, so I know he isn't out of town or whatever. I understand that it is a lot of money (in total with s/h it came to $340) and that he may have to wait until payday or whatever but the fact that he hasn't even contacted me makes me uneasy.

I sent him an email on Wednesday just to make sure he got the invoice, just in case his email SPAMED it or something.

Does anyone know if you can sent a payment reminder through Ebay for mulitple items? Or will have to send him 26 reminders, one for each item? When I sent the invoice I could send him 1 for all of them. But then again maybe 26 payment reminders in his inbox would get his attention...

What you all said makes good sense! I emailed the buyer reminding that its binding and all that and about the nonpyaing bidder alert. So we will see if they will answer me. How long should I give? My next bid is only $.50 difference! So I could do the 2nd chance, which I have never done before!

I had posted way back on page 253 about an "undeliverable" package I had sent.... well, I immediately e-mailed the buyer about the problem and I got an email response from the buyer today stating..."Oh yeah, my company moved a few months ago." DUH!!! I'm rather annoyed, but I'm not going to let him know that... My email response back was just "Thanks for the address correction. The additional shipping will be $3.23. If you mail me a check today..." I tried not to sound angry or accusatory or anything like that. I suppose it is just an honest mistake. Other than that I am having a GREAT day..... lost weight on the scales at WW and ....DRUM ROLL.... I had an ebay buyer send me an extra $5 for something, stating that her purchase was worth it and she remembers what it was like to be new to ebay. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??? Made my day!!:earseek: :earseek:

to what people will buy??? I have about 47 things up right now with only about 7 bids. I have a great, brand new, hardcover American Girl book that I thought would sell great....no bids! But I have a Barbie, new in box, but the box is wrecked!! I was ready to give it to the Salvation Army, but thought I would give it one try on ebay.... wouldn't you know it has a bid!! I went in a revised the titles on a few items with no bids. Curious to see if that helps. I also made my first ebay purchase a few days ago on a children's item for christmas. It's pretty exciting.... easy to see how people get carried away on the bidding.

There is absolutely no way to know what someone will buy. It depends a lot on who is looking at the time you have it on.

I put a lot of Blues Clues Toys in the early summer no bids. Then I put it on again at the end of summer and it got bid up to $40+.

The second chance offer is like a private "Buy-it-now" listing for the 2nd highest bidder only. When you send that, the person has 24 hours to use it, then it expires. I like it since there is a very specific window in which you will know whether you have a sale or not.

If I was going through the NPB process on someone who hadn't actually told me "I am not going to pay you", I wouldn't rush to use the 2nd chance offer, and I'd wait for the NPB process to conclude before offering the 2nd chance. But in your case, you could do the 2nd chance offer while that person may still have a strong interest, and see what happens in 24 hours.

Now, I have a question, and maybe Doris or Christa or C.Ann know this - If you sell it to the 2nd bidder, can you still request FVF back on the first bidder, since you will have paid the FVF twice, otherwise?

I can help a little with the scenario because it happened to me on the very first item I sold on ebay! How is that for luck? First, yes you can get the fees back on the original non-purchaser. Second, at first I thought it was just for 24 hours for the second chance, but I then later learned you can click on that arrow for a drop down which allows two other choices. When I did the 24 hour one, I was wondering.. what if this person doesn't go online daily? It didn't sell. But the second time I used the three day and the person bought it. So there is a choice there; you are not tied into just 24 hours.

Hi everyone,
Glad to join you all as ebayers....
I'm new to ebay and am hoping that I to can earn some extra $$ for our trip to Disney in Feb. I just started with some items to sell a couple of days ago and am very discouraged. I'm selling books, kids ski suit, kids columbia winter coats, and holiday dresses. The only thing that has a bid is the ski suit. I hope the others come through with bids (only 4 days left). What do you do if nothing gets bid on. Can you end the sale early, or do they give you a break if you try to resell it? Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks!

I'm not sure why you would want to end it early. Maybe you don't realize that you would still pay the listing fees. If it's because you started too low, and aren't happy with the ending price, that would be against eBay's rules, to close the auction early. They only have a few reasons that would be acceptable to them for closing the auction early.

Give yourself time..some of my best bids have come in the last 9 seconds, from snippers.
