Woo Hoo!

Just received my first paypal payment. So exciting! I moved it over to my bank account right away. Is that what you all do?

Anyway, just had to share the excitement!

I let my balance stay. I have the debit card, so I leave the money at paypal, use it for postage, and will use the balance for our Disney trip in December.

Thankyou all for the heads up on Christmas.

I'm just finishing up some of my best work ever, and I'm excited to get it moving...I just didn't want to stick it on too early, before everyone was in the "buying" mood! :):)

Good luck everyone, I hope it's a wonderful selling season for you all!!

:teeth: pirate:

:wave2:

I move it. I get interest in my savings, and also, if anyone did a charge back, I would hate to have Paypal do a "freeze" on a large sum.
I get 5% back on car purchases on my GM cc, so I use it for everything.

I don't understand this, can someone explain please. When I joined paypal, I put my cc/debit card on the account. I also have a paypal debit account. Now if someone does a chargeback and there is no $$ in the paypal account, does paypal put a freeze on the cc/debit that you have on paypal. When I have a certain amount of $$ in my paypal account I sweep that into my checking account. Can paypal put a freeze on that checking account also if theres a chargeback. I hope this makes sense. I haven't had a chargeback as of yet, but I'm sure one will be coming eventually and I'd like to know what account they will freeze. And do they put a freeze on all the $$ you have in the account or just the amount in question? TIA

Denise

I'm sure one will be coming eventually and I'd like to know what account they will freeze.

They should only put the freeze on the amount, but Paypal sometimes freezes the entire account while it's being worked on.
If there isn't money in the paypal account they will pull out just the amount being disputed, from whatever account you have "attached" to the paypal account, which is why, if this scares you, you might want to open an account just for paypal, and keep diddly in it.
It doesn't happen often, but I've got some web pages form people who found it very bad when it did happen. One person's accoutn was frowzen,a nd yet people were still allowed to pay for outstanding auctions. She didn't really have their money, since it was frozen, they wanted everyting shipped, but she wasn't about to put out money until it was settled..What a mess.

LIke I said, it doesn't happen often, but I prefer not to keep large sums there..for the above reasons, of if someone were to hack my account.

I know nothing about this site, but it is one put up by a disgruntled Paypal person. I've never had any problem with them, that wasn't fixed with a quick phone call.

I had a MAJOR problem with paypal a while back, or rather an individual I purchased from. I had very little ebay experience, and after 3 weeks still had not received a $300 item and my email were not being returned. I got scared and reported it to my credit card. (I didn't even know at the time that you are not supposed to do that when using paypal.) Soon thereafter, I got an email from the seller (finally!) saying that he had been out of town, had shipped to the wrong address, and come home to my package waiting for him. AND paypal had frozen his account with all his money in it. He sent the package out again, and I received it in a few days. I notified my credit card and paypal. My credit card re-posted the charge to my account...BUT paypal NEVER gave his money back. My credit card claims to have contacted them, the seller contacted them, and I contacted them...numerous times! I even faxed them multiple copies of my credit card statement showing the charge re-posted. As far as I know, he never did get his money back!!! After about 5 months of going round and round with paypal, I just never heard from him again...I think he gave up. It was very frustrating! I have considered closing my paypal account, but I do use it to pay for auctions more than anything, I really don't sell much, and then it is all small-ticket items. But it is so scary to know they can just keep your money like that!

Sorry so long!

Okay....you guys have scared me enough!!!! Just paid my resort bill at Disney with ALL my paypal funds. Checked my account, and it shows that Disney has processed it on my paypal debit card.....after all those stories all I can say is PHEWWWWWWW!!

I think you made a good choice.. I know of someone personally who recently had $1800 hacked out of their Paypal account so it's best not to leave any large sum of money there..

I often leave the money in there at the end of each auction week until I go to the Post Office and use the debit card to pay shipping fees.. Once that is accomplished the remainder gets sweeped out and into my separate ebay checking account.. I then have a zero balance until my next set of auctions end..

We all work VERY hard for our eBay money so it's best to guard it as closely as possible - right?

Oh - and I'm jealous!!!! You've already paid for your Disney resort !!!! LOL ;)

If these stories scare you, try the paypal discussion board on ebay. There are stories there that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up...I don't go on those boards ANYMORE. I never posted, I just would read BUT I would leave that board and wonder if joining paypal was a good idea. So far, I haven't had any trouble with paypal. As a matter of fact, before I got the paypal debit card I wanted alittle more info, so I call them direct, and they were very helpful and friendly. The paypal discussion board on ebay is brutal. And the feedback discussion board is just as bad. If you don't agree with some of the posts and voice it, they get you.......So I stay here, where its nice, quiet and FRIENDLY.

I want to be sure I understand this correctly. If there is some kind of problem which results in a charge back, Paypal will freeze your paypal account. And if you have removed the money they will freeze your bank checking account? Is that true? How are they authorized to do that?

Perhaps I misunderstood.

And if you have removed the money they will freeze your bank checking account?

They won't freeze your checking account...but if you have a chargeback of say, $100, and it's not in your paypal account..they will look at whatever account you "attached" to your PP account, and if there is money in it, they snag it, and put it in your account, and freeze that. You gave them permission to go into your account when you signed up : (

Some people have been successful in having their bank put a freeze on their accounts, and not letting anyone do that. If PP needs money from your account and find you did that, you will no longer be a member of PP.

All that said and done, I've been a member from day one, and never (wood...where the heck is a piece of wood?) had a problem.

EXACTLY - and that is why you should have a separate checking account! I posted my experience somewhere back on these pages, but basically someone tried to take $1600 from me, and when the funds weren't in my Paypal account OR my bank account, it got bounced back....my Paypal account was frozen until my claim was resolved. The good news is that it WAS resolved, but it really was a pain...

Hi guys, I have a question...I just got a BIN and there paying with money order/cashier check. There address has a P.O.Box and under that is an address. It looks like this: John Smith
P.O. Box 123
123 Main Street
(city,state,zip)

Do I address it like that, or do I leave out the P.O.Box #.

Normally, when I get an address it has no p.o.box #.

Unless, when I get the m/o or c/c should I just go by whats on that.

TIA
Denise

Well, even with a $100 minimum in a separate ebay marked checking account, you are still at some risk then. But luckily I did take the advise of those here and set up a separate account.

Thanks for the discussion on this.

Now I am off to search (I hope the function is working today) about for the information about getting those free/low charge delivery confirmation things....

I just wanted to add - before everyone goes into a panic here - that Paypal - when worked in the manner that DMRick and I have suggested - is no more risky than ANYTHING ELSE you do on-line concerning money - and posssibly even LESS risky because you have the option of taking it out of there as soon as it gets in..

I have known people who had money and/or identities stolen simply by using a charge card on-line..

I have known people who have had their every-day bank accounts hacked into because they do on-line banking..

Use Paypal in a smart and secure fashion and you'll be fine.. No need to panic and discontinue your use of it....
-----------------------

Oops! Almost forgot to mention.. After I sweep the money out of my Paypal account it goes to my separate bank account that I use for eBay.. I then leave only enough money in THAT account to pay my eBay fees for the month and the rest is TAKEN OUT and placed "elsewhere" - some place that is in NO WAY connected with ebay or Paypal.. That in turn creates the "can't take what ain't there" scenario that DMRick spoke of..

I would address it just as they give it to you. I have seen this a few time (never from ebay or paypal) and I write it just like it is given to me.

CAnn..be sure to let me know for sure about Saturday..hubby doens't want to bring the stuff with us if we aren't going to see you!
