Regarding Labor Day - I think a lot of people are either going on vacation or busy getting their kids ready for back to school. I think I'm going to wait till after to list.

The dress they had on Christopher Lowell was a $2500 dress she bought for $500. The audience just oooohed and aaaahed! I'd look at what they're going for and compare the ones listed to what you have. Who knows, someone the exact size of the dress you have will be logging on just because of that episode!

twinklingstars4u: You really helped me with that PayPal complaint form! I bought something recently from a jerk who never sent it. I filed a complaint after being totally ignored for 3 weeks based on the info MB gave me. I got a response today giving me my tracking number on USPS! Well, lo and behold, the tracking number was non existent OR he just mailed it today... .. lot good that does me since the item was a book to help my son get READY for school! Ugh!

I am so glad C.Ann reminded us about Labor Day! Holidays are a bear! I'm ending everything by Thursday and waiting until Sunday before Labor Day to start listing again. All this while renovating my new home and trying to move!! HELP!!!

I'll be waiting until after Labor Day to begin listing again. I just LOVE reading this thread to see how everyone is doing! The next 10 days should be busy ones for me as I wash and iron all of the back to school clothes.

Next up - researching parcel post for shipping large lots of books, and maybe listing some never used china (wedding gifts still in original packing....from first marriage....why am I saving this stuff?). The china still makes me nervous because I think that it will all end up broken in transit, but that's what insurance is for, right??

Laura, Is UPS cheaper for shipping books than USPS media mail? I just sold about 110 children's books and it cost $16 (right on the dot what I quoted!). I sold them to a lady who was just opening a school in Texas which was a blessing because they were great books and they were just building an inventory.

Just curious because I'm collecting a new group to sell in a couple of weeks. The more I go through Michael's stuff the more I find to sell!

Robin, oops, what I meant to say was that I just need to research the BEST way to send the books. I didn't even think of UPS because so many listings say media mail (oops, again, I said parcel post) - ACK, now I am confusing myself! Basically I have a few AVON boxes filled with Sweet Valley High books that I want to sell as a set(s), but I need to determine the best (cheapest) way to ship it first. It sounds like the $16 you shipped for was a fair deal for 110 books. Great for the school - what a great feeling for you! So far I have strictly used USPS Priority Mail since the shipping stuff is free and I can do the labels at home, so I'm just unsure about shipping any other way. Make any sense? Trying to keep it easy, but it's hard when I keep tripping over Avon boxes filled with books!!

The best and the cheapest way to send books may not the same .

The cheapest way is by USPS Media Mail. The advantage of Media Mail is that it's cheap ($1.42 for up to a pound) and the cost of a package does not depend on where it is sent. The disavantage to Media Mail is it can take a really long time to get to someone if they live far away from you. I live in Wisconsin and it can often take 14-21 days for a book to get to California. If a book is going to Alaska or Hawaii, forget about it! It'll take up to a month! The reason why Media Mail takes so long is because it's the very last package to be loaded onto a truck or plane at each and every stop. It goes on the next leg of its journey if and only if there is extra room. I tell people to expect their book(s) in 7-14 days, but it may take longer.

A faster method of sending books is First Class and Priority Mail. Of course, it is much more expensive. I set up my auctions for Media Mail and allow people to upgrade to faster shipping for an additional charge. For heavy orders that people want faster I also check UPS v/s USPS. The Post Office gets really expensive over a couple of pounds via Parcel Post or Priority Mail and UPS will usually beat them in price.

I am going to set up another selling ID so I can sell fabric and extra stuff but I need a name.

Why do you need another ID? Wouldnt it be better to use the ID you have now that already has a feedback rating?

I hit a small town's garage sale weekend yesterday and picked up some great things....a few that are NWT. But I'm going to wait until the 31st to list anything new except for the books that I'll list today on half.com

You have to check your auctions.

Just received a response from one of my auction winners telling me in no uncertain terms that he absolutely has no intention of paying me for the item. His attitude was too bad, I don't care what the rules are, go ahead and leave me negative feedback and see what I do...blah, blah, blah. Unfortunately for me the 2 negatives he did receive for not paying other sellers showed up in his feedback after my auction closed....or I would have cancelled his bid right away.
Well, there are a lot of great people on ebay.....every now and again one bad one crawls out from under the woodwork!!

I sell handmade boutique type items on my other ID and I don't want the other stuff to clutter that up that's all. Also I can use if for buying. Just a personal decision on my part.

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in a long time (took a break) but I'm going to start back up after Labor Day. One of the items I have is my dd Snow White costume (dress, shoes, and wig). It's only been worn once and in great condition. But I was wondering if I should sell the pieces all together or seperately? Thanks for any opinions

There have been problems with Paypal notices and end of auction notices.. Go to the eBay site - click on Community up on the right top - then click on Systems Announcements - and you can read about all the various problems eBay has been having lately..

You could list the auction as the costume and wig. Add into your description that you will include the shoes for the winning bidder. This way your auction won't discourage a bidder based on the shoe size. And as we all know, everyone likes to think they are getting a little extra something..lol. Of course though you would start the bid at what you would consider a fair price for the entire costume.

I wouldn't sell the costume in separate pieces. I just started selling, but when I put up some school books by themselves they didn't sell or received only 1 bid. I then took some really old ones I never thought would sell, grouped them together and started them at .99. The auction doesn't end until tomorrow and they've received 12 bids for a price higher then I could have ever hoped. I think people like it better because it saves them on shipping. Even if the seller mentions combined shipping and handling the bidder still has to email the seller to ask how much of a discount they will receive. Sometimes I was ready to buy some items together that cost $5.00 apiece to ship to save on shipping and found out the seller was only willing to discount the shipping by .50 on each item!

Costumes are doing great right now. I would definately sell everything together.

My most memorable ebay sale was my son's Captain Hook costume. I bought it on clearance for $2.99, he wore it for 2 years and also played with the pieces for a while. Last September it sold for $53.00!

I check My Ebay on the selling page. It tells you all the infor you need including what items have bids, the totals, what has sold and what has not sold. It's now my homepage.

BTW got a new scam Ebay letter this week...if I logged into Ebay supposedly I'd be entered into a drawing for a SUV. Some of these crooks are so creative they should easily be able to go out and get real jobs.
