You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY Part 2!!!!

In looking at some of the Restaurant Gift Certificates, many of them are offered by Restaurants.com which is a restaurant guide. Maybe the restaurants trade them the gift certificates for advertising.

We own a restaurant in Rhode Island and we have traded gift certificates for advertising with local radio stations.

Not sure about others.

I sold some gift certificates that we just weren't going to use. There wasn't anything wrong with them, though they didn't exactly go for what I would consider "cheaply" as they sold for only a dollar or so under the face value.

I think a lot of people that list gift cards/certificates start them low to encourage bidding - but like jcemom's - most of the ones I've seen have ended pretty close to face value.
I know there are some buying clubs where members can get gift cards at a discount - so even if they go for less than face value, the seller may be making a little $$ on the deal.

Try Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. Even if it doesn't work on that you will LOVE it for everything else!!!

OMG! I used this and the ink marks came off of the Leap Pad! Now I can sell it NWOT! (Just kidding.) But actually it looks new. I must be truthful and say that I didn't think this stuff would work. I had tried lots of stuff up to this point to get the ink marks off (windex, comet, nail polish remover, etc.) How could some little sponge thing work????? But it did. I am a convert!

I don't really have an answer to your direct question. I did buy some Blockbuster certificates on Ebay with no problem though. Have had less success buying coupons.

Coupons!? People sell coupons? People buy coupons? How does this work? What were the problems you were having? I'll have to look into this!

I've sold coupons before, but I had to word it as that the coupons were "free" but I had to do charge a service fee.

I basically did not get much for them, so I stopped it. And believe it or not, one of my coupons auctions got pulled because there was a cigarette coupon in the stack.

I had to separate them into manageable stacks of 50 /100
Then type which each one was and then go from there.

Quite honestly it wasn't worth my time or lisitng fees.

Thanks for the info. I did take a look, and it really looked like the only way you could make some money at it is if you are selling a lot of one type of coupon. Like I saw a lot for a free razor, also some some for cigarettes. So I know that this is something that I will not get into.

But as an owner of three cats, that eat IAMS, I do think I will be checking back often and picking up some of the IAMS coupons that I saw. I saw one for 20 of the same coupon for less than $2.00 with shipping. Not bad! But it will have to wait untill next month, because I go cat food shopping tuesday, and I always get enough for the month. So I don't think they will get here by then.

I only checked out (and bought) coupons once. It was for 20 $2.00 coupons for one item. Several people stated that this item (Electrosol tablets) could be purchased for less than $2.00 at Walmart and Target. So in essence, it would be free. However, I had difficulty every time I tried to redeem the coupons. It turned out that these were the coupons which pop out of a machne in the aisles of Stop and Shop. The first time I tried to use it, I was told that I had to buy the package that cost at least as much as the coupon. (No freebie!). The coupon wouldn't just 'go in' so it was a lot of trouble for the clerk to check out how to do it. The second time it was no problem (larger size). The third time I was told that they don't take the coupon and never had.

Kathy -

Thanks so much on the info for International Shipping. I was just looking into that myself.

You guys are great!! I have a renewed interest in selling on ebay, now that I've gotten all these tips from you all. I hit a tag sale this Sat and bought a bag of 17 red and white transferware -type plates for $5 ! Two of the plates go for at least $20 a piece on Ebay. :Pinkbounc

Do you all find that there is an optimal time for ending auctions? I try to make sure my auctions go over a weekend, and end between 8 and 11 ET. It also seems to me that most of my auctions get bid on in the last few hours, unless it's something very popular that I started out very cheap.

What do you think?

Do you find it's cheapest to buy shipping supplies (bubble wrap, tape, etc.) online on ebay? I can't store large quanties, So buying 1500 ft of bubble wrap at a time isn't an option :) . But it does seem that even smaller quanties can be pretty reasonable. And I do order boxes from the USPS free.

Thanks-

I know this is probably a really dumb question, but I cannot find the answer. I ordered a bunch of priority mail envelopes that I have not received yet. How much does it cost to ship these flat rate envelopes? I figured they would be good to mail small lots of my DDs clothing. Any better ideas?

Can anyone help?
I'm trying to add another picture (a better one) to some auctions that already have bids, but ebay isn't allowing me to add a picture. I tried to change the saved picture (the one I originally put up) but that didn't work either.
Any help out there?

You can not "change" information once there are bids. So you will not be able to change picture 1.

You can add to the description, so you could use HTML to add photos. I am not sure if you can add photos direct with ebay.

Thanks for the response - how do I use HTML to add pics? I'm gonna head over there and try to figure it out, but any help is appreciated.

Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope

$3.85, regardless of weight or destination, for matter sent in a Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope provided by the Postal Service.

I do know that they have been cracking down on them being "flat". Though the "flat" is supposed to refer to the actual rate, they are designed to send thin items, like paperwork. If they are bulky, they may not take them. I find the prioity tyvek bags are the best for clothes. Most smaller items will ship at 3.85 also with these.

If they are bulky, they may not take them.

I've found that they will take them no matter how bulky.... however, if they weigh too much they may refuse insurance (if they feel they will break open if dropped, etc). They also will not allow tape, if the tape is extending the size. My PO wouldn't allow tape to reinforce them, until I brought in the print out saying tape was allowed as long as it didn't extend the size.
Sometimes you ahve to bring in their own rules so they can read them, when the PO starts to make up the rules.

Does anyone use the "Print Shipping Label" link on completed auctions that leads to printing off postage and paying through PayPal? That looks like it would be easy enough but I haven't tried it yet.

When you print postage do you have to print it onto labels or can you print it on paper and tape it on?

Yes, I have been using the PayPal shipping, and it works great for me. I don't do a high volume of auctions, about 10-15 a week. Since I don't have a PayPal debit card, I like this service because I can pay for my postage right out of the account. I also like that they will email the buyer as soon as you've created a label for their package and give them their delivery confirmation number. Another thing I really appreciate is it will print all the shipping types available...Media, 1st class, Parcel, etc... That's a BIG help to me.

At first I didn't think I would want to waste all my ink cartridges on printing up shipping labels, BUT after going to the P.O. one day and having to fill out all the stupid delivery confirmation forms and everything on about 5 packages, I decided I would rather sit in my office chair and print them out to save me the trouble.

I try to factor in the West Coast folks also. Remember, 8am EST is 5AM on the West Coast. I try and give those folks some time to wake up and get some coffee before ending my auctions and have had great success--and lots of last minute bidding wars.
