You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY Part 2!!!!

Are you saying that you end your auctions in the morning? I have always ended in the evening. Have you tried both?

Thanks!

No, sorry, I should have added PM in there, although I thought that would be a given. Or, since it's ebay, I should have written 20:00 - 23:00 ET. :)

Does EVERYONE pay with credit cards? I just opened a different checking account and a new PayPal account to try to avoid taking fees on everything on my Premier account. I've had three auctions end since, and every single one of them tried to pay with a credit card! It's such a pain to have to deny them, careful to not click UPGRADE instead (I know I'm going to make that mistake someday) and explain why they can't pay with a credit card, even though it says in BLACK AND WHITE IN MY AUCTION to EMAIL ME FIRST they want to pay with CC. If they insist on paying with a credit card I send them an invoice from my premier account and eat the fee (again!).

I didn't think it would be such a big deal. I buy alot on ebay and always use bank transfers. Am I the only person in the world who works in cash?

How do you all handle this?

Thanks-

Yes on ebay a lot of customers will want to pay with credit cards, or their check debit card. I just deny the payment and send an email explaining that as stated in my auction I do not accept Paypal credit card payments.

HI, I am finally making my first post, just been a lurker for awhile!

I would really like to try selling on ebay, but I am not sure weather it is worth it or not. With all the fees from ebay, and then from paypal, how much are you really going to make?
I have plenty of things I would like to try. What types of things don't sell well? What does sell well? I have plenty of baby cloths, but not much are great name brands, but they are all in GREAT condition. Any and all advice would be helpfull. Thanks

They do not have to be named branded to sell. Seperate them into "lots" by size and sex (if applicable). This is a great way to get get your feet wet.

As for fees, build them into either your asking price or the handling part of your shipping and handling. Price the items for what you would be happy with, if it sold for that. I mean if you want $10 for something, don't list it for $1.95. Also do some "reaserch." serch for completed auctions simular to what you plan to list, to give you an idea of what it goes for.

When I first started listing I gave my self $10 to "gamble with." Meaning I let myself list items until the fees hit $10. Maybe something like this will work for you.

One thing I really noticed was that my first auction took me FOREVER to set up (not really I am just impatient). But once I had that one set up the rest were a piece of cake. I saved the format including my policies in a word document then just cut and paste it for the new auctions. This saves me a lot of time. I know there are websites that you can use for this but I did not want to pay the fee. I already pay so many fees to Ebay and Paypal. I am not making a ton on my DDs clothes, but they add up and help me clean out the house. I still end up donating many items that I just think are not worth listing. In my experience large lots of good condition clothing sell pretty well.

I don't bother with auctions that don't take credit card..for most items I like the protection I get by using my cc, and also, I dont' keep money in my Paypal, and I don't want Paypal grabbing from my checking account. I also am more apt to make a split decision on purchasing something if I don't have to have the cash.

Nope, I only deal in cash (both ends of the transactions) also.

When I first started selling on eBay, I didn't accept credit cards either and it was a nightmare dealing with people - not to mention all the time involved denying payments, emailing back and forth with the buyer, having to explain over and over why I didn't accept credit cards, etc.. I was wasting precious time I could have been spending making MORE money..

It also never dawned on me - until someone here mentioned it - that I was missing out on all of the "impulse" buyers (so easy to buy on a whim that way) - higher bids (what the heck? Just throw it on the charge card) - and folks that plain WON'T bid if you don't accept CC's.. And then there was MORE time wasted - waiting for payments in the mail - emailing reminders if the buyers never let me know the money was on it's way - waiting to ship the items out until the checks were cleared or the money orders were cashed.. Sheesh - looking back on it now I have to wonder what the heck I was thinking! LOL

So - I decided to upgrade my Paypal to Premier and it was the best thing I ever did!!! More sales, higher bids, instant money - I just LOVE it!!!!! Business definitely increased significantly and the time I have saved alone is worth the minimal fees that Paypal charges.. Just once decent sale on can make up for a WHOLE slew of piddly Paypal charges..

Accepting CC's may not be for everyone, but from my own experience I know that if I hadn't made it simple for my buyers - and simplified my OWN eBay workings - I probably would have bowed out last summer.. Just wouldn't have been worth the time and effort..

And I agree with DMRick - if a seller doesn't accept credit/debit cards I go on my merry way - no matter HOW bad I may want something..

Good luck with whatever you decide!:)

I was thinking about this too. It's been such a pain, and I'm three for three with people paying with CC. I think I'll go back to my Premier account and just eat the (relatively small) fees and build them into shipping and handling.

I just never realized how many people used their credit cards with ebay.

Thanks -

I'm very happy that I switched to Premiere also. I have one person paying me via Money order this week. AGH!!!!!!!! Then you wait and wait and wait, etc. I want that $$ in hand!! I want to have enough cash for my Universal rooms by the end of May.

I do have a personal account also for when I am trading on coupon boards etc.

Well, I finally got off (well, technically on) my rear end and started listing on ebay again after almost 2 years.

I've been saying that I would start up again for months but it took me forever to get that first listing up.

My free 30 day trial period with Sparedollar had long since expired and I didn't want to spend any money on fees since my items weren't big money makers anyways.

Just want to clean my house out. I had way too much stuff. I was an avid romance reader most of my life (pre-kids) and had amassed quite a few books. I didn't want to throw any of my "babies" away. Just wanted them all to go to someone who would actually read and enjoy them.

I decided to use Turbo Lister since it was free. And it's been o'kay. Well, since Sunday, I now have 10 items listed. It's a bit nerve racking though when only one auction has a bid and no one's really "watching."

Hope they all get sold even for the minimum price just so I can get them out of the house!

Is there something wrong with the My Ebay page or is it my computer. Yesterday I had many people watching most of my items although no one bidding yet with still over 5 days left. Today I go on the computer and it says 0 watching for every auction?? Anyone else having this problem. One auction now has a bid and that shows up.

Question for those of you who accept Paypal balance transfers only (no credit cards):

Do you use the Paypal logo in your "Accepts Payment" area?

I do not use the paypal logo but I state in auction description and in my terms of service that I accept Paypal (no credit cards).

I have had several people who are confused on how to pay me. I write in the invoice : "You can send paypal payment to XXXXXXX@yahoo.com" I accept Paypal balance transfers only (no credit cards).

This is still confusing to people. Sometimes when they write and ask how to pay with paypal, I give them step by step instructions: Go to paypal.com Click on "send money". etc.

Some are still confused??? I am just hoping this doesnt get me a bad feedback some day.

But I hesitate to use the paypal logo thing because it shows the credit cards beside it. I think it would be more trouble to explain I don't accept credit cards and have to refuse the credit card payment. (This happens even when you clearly state several times no credit cards!!)

What do you do?? How could I word things better??

Maggie

You can not use the paypal logo unless you accept credit cards. You just have to write it in your invoice and emails. I too have the same problems with buyers. It makes a great arguement to upgrade to a premier but those fees just keep me from clicking upgrade.

I don't think its your computer, its just Ebay. Rember that the new system is still in its beta stage, so their still a few bugs to work out.

When I first started using it. I would have bids on some of my items and it would say no one was watching it.

I'm sure before it goes none bata, this will not be happening.

It is possible to have bids and no one "watching" it. Watching means adding to their MY EBAY watch page. If someone wants something and bids on it, it will go in their bidding section of MY EBAY so there would be no need to WATCH it on the watch page.
I have some right now that have bids, but no one is watching.

I think your problem is that the new My Ebay is in beta, and they did say that you could lose all your preferences, etc, while they are working on it.

Also, people can delete items from their watching page.
