We have a family trip planned for May, but my DW and I decided to take a quick get away trip in Feb. The trip is for Friday - Monday and I didn't want to use our points, so I booked POFQ. We have never stayed there, but I posted last week and many of you said how much you like POFQ. After hearing the positive reviews, we were excited to stay there. However.....

Friday night I checked my e-mail and I had a message from David's Point rentals for last minute points at a discounted rate. My DW was already asleep, but I went ahead and made an appointment to call David in the morning. When my wife got up on Sat. morning she said she was a little disappointed about switching resorts. She said that she was really looking forward to staying there since it would remind her of a trip we took to New Orleans together a few years ago. After a while she said that it would be okay if we switched.

On the request to David’s Point rental I stated that we were interested in VWL, BLT, BCV, BWV, or AKV. Nothing against OKW and SSR, just not what we were interested in on this trip. David called MS and they said they had what we were looking for at BWV, Great! I told my wife that we going to be staying at BWV and she was very excited. Then David hung up with MS and had me send payment and then he called back to MS, but now there was no availability at BWV. He said let’s call back in a couple of minutes and see then. Sure enough, nothing available. He said that he would refund my money. I then had to tell my DW that were back at staying at POFQ. I started to think about it more and thought, “Hey, why not do a split stay”. I asked my DW if she was interested in a split stay and she was not keen on the idea. She said it sounded like a lot of hassle. After a little coaxing I had her convinced that it wouldn’t be that bad. I called David back and told him that we were interested in a split stay. He said that he doesn’t do spit stays… too much paperwork.:confused3 I had to go back downstairs and tell DW, hey we are back at POFQ. During the day I called MS to see if there were any openings and finally at about 4 they had a savanna view at AKL. I yelled to the wife to see if she was interested and she was very excited. I called David back and told him that I had called MS there was an open room at AKV and asked if would call them. He said yes and proceeded to call them as I was processing the payment again. Well, in the couple of minutes it was also gone. At that point David pretty much said he was done with me unless I wanted OKW or SSR. He wasn't chasing down any of the other resorts. I also had to do one more walk of shame to my DW and tell we were back at POFQ.

It was kind of frustrating getting my hopes up and then let down. No real point to this post, just sharing!

LOL, well when I first read it, I thought it was a commercial for David's Points Rental.:scared1:

Sounds like you have really been on a rollercoaster ride! I hope you have a good time regardless of where you stay.

We've not stayed at POFQ, but we've visited it, and it will remind you of New Orleans. Enjoy your stay!

last minute points can be a great deal...but you'd better love SSR and/or OKW.

that's just how things work...

I've never been to New Orleans and never stayed at POFQ but I reserved one night at POFQ before our DCL cruise in April because I had a code for a cheap price (better than using weekend points from DVC). I'm really looking forward to it! I won't miss the kitchenette for one night and POFQ looks like a very pretty hotel.

I don't know much about this Dave point deal, but I'm surprised a person who's trying to run a business if it is infact that said he was done with you...and wouldn't go the extra mile in further searches.:confused3

Hope you have a great time regardless :thumbsup2

To be truthful, I was surprised also. :confused3
I have used his service in the past and have recommended the site to many, many people. I don't think I am quite the fan anymore.

I have a little tip to share for eating beignets...
Take a deep breath in and then quickly bring the beignet up to your mouth and take a quick bite. My DW and I were sitting at Cafe Du Monde enjoying a beautiful spring morning and sipping coffee. I reached down to take my first delicious bite in the light fluffy beignet covered in powered sugar and as it just was about to enter my mouth I breathed in a large amount of powered sugar. I thought I was going to die!:scared: By forcing yourself to only exhale is the only safe way to eat a beignet!

I am posting this letter I wrote to DVC just to help you feel better. I really tried to screw up our first DVC reservations and just wanted you to know that I understand the frustration of trying to get the perfect trip. Living 110 miles from New Orleansand having stayed there many times, we have stayed at POFQ once and loved it....definitely has the NOLA vibe.
Have fun on your trip...and remember....at least you have reservations .....somewhere.

Dear Mr. Lewis,
It has always been a dream of mine to be a member of DVC. I have thought about it almost daily for the last few years. Finally my husband, Todd, and I are making the leap and have recently negotiated a contract with George Baz, our DVC Guide. He was very courteous and friendly from the start which held my confidence and attention. He was able to process my request for 210 points at Animal Kingdom Villas quickly and even secured our dream of having 2 studios with savannah views for our first trip this October. He made sure I was confirmed with these reservations and was assured by me all was well. That is when I messed up.
I will try, briefly, to relate to you the horrible decisions I made over the next 24 hours when left to my own devices as a new member. Earlier this year we paid in full for a trip to Pop Century on the Disney Dining Plan with park tickets. My Mother in law received a pin code in the mail and this trip allowed us to take 40% off the room and dining plan. So when George got us the two studios we called to cancel our Pop century reservation. While on the phone it occurred to us that our Pop trip was a value and we should bank my 200 points that I received as a purchase incentive, combine them with my 200 points at my December use year and have 400 points going into 2010. By us, I mean myself and my sweet Mother in law. So thinking that we should stay at Pop and bank points, we cancelled our prized Studios at Animal Kingdom. Yes, I said cancelled, and that was my first error in judgment. Of course, just after this decision my husband walked in and had a royal fit. It seems he was really looking forward to the view and I underestimated its importance to him. “No problem”, I said, I will just call and get them back. That was my second error in judgment. So with that thought in mind, and knowing how easy it would be to get 2 studios with a savannah view back. I called and cancelled my Pop reservation. Third error in judgment, can you see a pattern here? So here we are now with no reservations, Member Services closed for the evening, but feeling as though life was good and easy. Reservations for Animal Kingdom could wait until the following morning. Number four, error.
So this morning I called Member Services and was dumb struck that there were no availabilities. Number Five, will they never end? What was I going to do? We ‘do’ Disney every year and now had nothing, nada, and no real way off getting my beautiful rooms back. Not only had I screwed up my reservation for October but my Mother in law had followed me and she had no reservations either. I truly was in a panic. My husband was going to be furious that he did not have his view, my Mother in law angry that her nice value trip had been wasted. I teetered on the brink of hysterics. How I would get through this and what was to become of our yearly vacation?
I called George, good, sweet man that he is…he rescued me. I know that DVC is a business and that real estate deals are deals. I know that there are probably several Animal Kingdom Villa rooms that are on stand-by, to be released at a moment’s notice to perspective customers when they are thinking of joining your program. It is quite an incentive that can seal a deal and an excellent marketing tool. But that really didn’t matter this morning. I am an educated person, successful in my career, and was scared to death that my wonderful vacation was gone. I had left a message on George’s phone and he called me back. It was long enough between phone calls to Member Services and him to teach me a valuable lesson. Do not mess with special accommodations at a world class resort when you do not know what you are doing.
Between apologies and tears, I begged George for help. Of course I explained what stupid mistakes I had made and he immediately went to work. He was great. He was perfect. He was what every customer wants in their DVC Guide—he simply took care of business and got me those two precious rooms back. I don’t care how he did it---but it was magic to me.
I know this one letter is on a very small scale and may or not be read. I know my DVC Membership is one of many. I know that there are other sales team members that do a great job every day- selling, planning and organizing contracts for DVC. But my George is one in a million. He saved my vacation, the vacation that I have worked all year to have with my family. He saved my relationship with my husband and Mother in law in one phone call. I just wanted to tell you that your team members represent the best and kindest of employees. I promised George that if I could have my trip back the whole world would know it. When you see him please tell him again, how grateful I am to have him guiding my way. Keep up this level and kindness in service and DVC will continue to out shine all other timeshare companies. Thank you for reading my letter. I hope you share my story with others so they will appreciate the good job George Baz does for Disney Vacation Club.

Best Regards from a Devoted DVC Member,

ToddyLu

What is Dave's Point Rental?

His business is renting timeshares...including DVC (or maybe only DVC). He's a new advertiser here on the DISBoards.

OP--we've stayed several times at POFQ and loved it. Until we splurged on CR, were spoiled and had to buy BLT, we preferred it over the other resorts. Not only do we like the theming, we love the small size. I think you will have a great getaway.

Our first ever trip to WDW was at POR in 2004. We loved it so much we bought DVC after only 1 trip to WDW. We have talked about booking a couple nights at POR on cash b/c we loved it there so much. Have a wonderful time!
