Tomorrpw morning when AAA rates for 2003 become available I plan on being on the phone to make our reservation for the night before our Magic cruise in Jan. 2003. I am planning on booking the YC!! DD8 and I have always wanted to stay there or BC and we convinced DH this is the time to splurge seeing how it is only for 1 night and we are not going to any of the parks, we can just have fun at that great looking pool!!!! I have a few questions that I posted on the main YC/BC thread but haven't gotten to many answers to yet so I thought I'd try a separate post.
I am planning on booking a Standard View, Non-smoking room. What type of view might we have and is there anything else I should request?
Where do you get the wrist bands for SAB? Will we be able to get ours right away if we check in at 2:00 and our room wouldn't be ready yet? DD is so anxious to try that waterslide!
What time is SAB open in Jan? Mainly wondering how late is it open until at that time of year so that if we decide to make PS somewhere I know how late to make it so we can maximize our swimming time.
Is SAB heated? I know Orlando can get pretty chilly in Jan.
What is everyones opinion of Beaches and Cream. Would this be a good place for us to get a quick dinner if we opt not to make a PS somewhere?
We are so excited to finally be staying at YC that we really want this 1 night stay to be special!

Just returned from Beach Club but can only answer a few of your questions. When you check in, you will be given your room key which also doubles as a charge if you wish. It's like a plastic credit card which shows the dates you check in and are checking out. You need to take this to the towel attendant at Stormalong Bay and they will issue you your wrist band and your towels. The towel attendant is located as you enter the pool from the hotel. So you definitely will be able to swim as soon as you check in even if your room isn't ready. We also swam on the day we checked out till it was time to leave for the airport. We ate lunch at Beaches and Cream. We all had hamburgers and they were good but sometimes I think this place gets built up way too much. It is just a small ice cream or malt shop with a fairly limited menu. Go early or you may have to wait for a table. It was fun to try it. We ate dinner at the Cape May Buffet at the Beach Club and really liked it. Food was great and something for everyone, not just seafood.

We've booked a standard view at the yc three times. The first time, we were overlooking a little pond on the Dolphin side -- very nice, so I'm guessing it might have been an upgrade. The second time, we could see the bus stop and parking lot -- definitely standard. Last week, we got upgraded to water view. Could see Stormalong Bay and the Epcot ball and Illuminations! I had sent a very nice fax telling them how much we loved the resort and asking for nothing specific except anything they could do to make by dh's birthday special. They they said they were upgrading us b/c of that and b/c we were staying a whole week. At check in, I also said I would love a "convenient room." We were beside the small elevator and ice room. I think the room may have had extra sound proofing b/c we couldn't hear a thing.

Beaches and Cream is okay but ridiculously small. Don't be surprised if you can't get in within a reasonable time.

Last week, you only needed the wristband for the big slide.

We always book a standard room at the YC, and many times have been upgraded. We also request a non-smoking room, and many times have been on the 3rd floor, which is a non-smoking floor. We usually request the 3rd or 4th floor.

For a better idea of which rooms are considered standard, go to the YC/BC forum within the resorts forum to find a room layout map. There is a color code that shows which rooms are standard, waterview, etc.

Standard view can be anything from a view of the entrance, to a view of the quiet pool, or small pond by the Dolphin, or a small area of rooms that look out over the gazebo but have no view of the water.

Yes you will be able to use SAB as soon as you check in, even if your room isn't ready. You get the wristbands and towels at any of the entrances to SAB once you show your resort ID (they will give you the card at checkin). During the summer months, SAB is open until 10pm, but I can't speak for January. It is cooler and less crowded, so probably not as late. I don't know if it is heated, but it sure feels like it in July!!!

Beaches and Cream is a great place for a quick bite or ice cream, but it is small and does get crowded. You may have a wait at certain busier times, like peak supper hours, or later in the evening for ice cream (like after 9pm when Epcot closes). Try to go earlier or later for supper, or if you have a little wait, they give you a beeper, so you can go to the arcade next door.

You will love the YC. It is our absolute favorite!!! Any questions, just let me know.:):D:)

Thanks everyone for the replies! I got my AAA discounted rate this morning so I saved us 15% and we're finally going to be staying at the YC!!! Now I'm hoping a code will come along that will save us even more! I booked the standard view and asked for a full balcony and to be put as close to SAB as possible. Even if we do get a view of th eparking lot I am just so excited to finally be staying there and DD is soooo excited to finally be able to use SAB! Now we'll have to start praying for good weather too!
