Yankee Candles...Is this crazy?

with shipping this makes them $34 each...I have never heard of those ones...:confused3

Holy cow!! $89 and reserve not met? I think this person is a little crazy

I just got the bidding has ended message. Wonder waht the reserve was. List price for those is around $22 each.

It's just a candle! I've never even heard of a "black band" before.

I did a google search and ebay search. If I interpreted it right-- The black bands are 1st editions, and more valuable:confused3 :confused3

I don't get it. But then, lots of people don't understand that I have $100-$200 baskets sitting around my house.

Same here. but at least our baskets can be used for something. I just threw out a YC jar (the three wick flat one) that took less than one month to burn completely up.

YC did away with the "black band" on their jars about a year and a half ago. As for people spending that type of money, I don't get it.

Right, the candles with the black bands are just older Yankee Candles. I still have some candles here that have the black bands. I actually much prefer the newer label design without the bands going around the jar.

People are crazy; I think some people see the words "rare", "discontinued", and "collectable" and just go nuts with spending their money! LOL

Those candles are $24 each in the store but if they are retired scents I'm sure there are people willing to pay way more or them. I know I miss my favorite but I'm way too frugal to spend more than I would have in the store.

I don't get the appeal of YCs at all. However, they're like any other collectable iteam, I suppose, so it really doesn't surprise me.

I didn't realize green grass was so valuable :) I have a couple left in my candle closet - I'm thinking they need to be on Ebay :teeth: It is a great scent so I don't think I could part with it!

The black band is just the older jar style.

The big appeal is they are discountinued scents. And yes, some people get very attached to a scent and will pay just about anything to get it back.

$80 for 3 isn't bad, they are about $74 in the store. (for 3 jars)

I've seen them SELL for hundreds of dollars on Ebay before. Some really old scents, like "Halloween" and then scents that are retired but loved also sell well, like Patcholi, Stormwatch, Pineapple Paradise, etc.

Here's $89 for ONE candle. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-22-OZ-YANKE...ryZ50406QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I work for Yankee Candle - those aren't rare - they're OLD! Those are retired scents but they show up in the outets from time to time. Depending on how old they are I'm not sure they'd be worth anything let alone what they wanted. That is just nuts. I saw that person's other listing for "rare" Amber Sunset - we had that this past Christmas so it's obviously not too rare!

My guess is that they bought them at an outlet for $15 each & are trying to make a buck by suckering people in to believe they are rare.

Yup I used to work there and hit the outlet all the time. BUT if you don't have a YC near you or access to an outlet you'll pay whatever if you have the money. The beauty of Ebay, LOL.

I'm now in a state that doesn't have YC and I'm in withdrawal, and shipping is $8 parcal post (read--3 months!!!) to get it here. :(

I can't believe someone bid that much on a few old candles. Depending on how old they are, they're probably not as scented as they originally were! Maybe the candles are considered "rare" because most people actually burn them?

FWIW, Yankee Candles are overrated anyway. Gold Canyon Candles are so much better IMHO!

 Oh that's terrible that there's none in your state! Where are you? We have almost 500 retail locations in the US now, and I can look it up to see if there are any coming near you, if you want. Here's a tip to save you S&H - if we are out of something in our store (or any retail Yankee) they have to ship it to you for free. We do a web sale through the store. Now if it's something we never carry (that's only available online) then you have to pay S&H. So if there's something you really want & don't want to pay S&H let me know - I can let you know if we run out of it so I can ship it to you for free!

I'm in Hawaii, so please let me know if you hear about any coming here!! I worked for them off and on for over 7 years and at 4 diff stores in 2 states. I'm not kidding when I say I'm in withdrawal. My friends here joke me because I'm sad because I'm down to about 20 jars now (and about 100 tarts LOL)...

I used to do weborders in the store but we still charged shipping...can I really do a weborder w/you w/o paying S&H? I really want the lg Coconut Bay jars...

Thanks!

It's only free S&H on a web sale if it's something we normally carry in the store (like Clean Cotton) and we run out of it. It usually only happens around the holidays. WE DO carry Coconut Bay IN the retail stores now, just for this spring & summer. Previously we never had it in the stores, just online)Soooo....if we run out of it, then I can ship it to you with no S&H. I'll keep my eyes open! I go in to work tonight 6-9:30, and I work 10-7 tomorrow - ugh. Then we have a store meeting after that til 8:30. Long day. But maybe we'll run out of Coconut Bay by then?? I'll really push it to customers in the next 2 days! LOL!!!

I'm off to work now...leaving behind DS10 who has a nasty stomach bug all day, with daddy. Let's see who else has it til tomorrow!
