XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

With all these San Jose Sharks scoring for Canada, the odds are good that the Sharks will win the Stanley Cup.

USA Silver medal in Women's Short Track.

Yes it was a Canadian judge tonight. I guess I should just stay on my Canadian channel and not go to NBC. Then I wouldn't have seen him talk to the press. Back to my bubble.

That made me laugh...lol

He did the last time, in these games. I think that they made the right call - don't put your hand up there if you don't want to get DQd. That said, it was ticky-tacky and I don't blame him for calling them on it. It looks very suspicious that a Canadian official made the call, and that the call benefited the Canadian racer. IMO, they should never have that kind of conflict of interest. Makes a subjective call stink to high heaven...

:thumbsup2

3-0 Canada

USA vs Canada in the final...12.15 local on Sunday.

Not that I think the outcome's necessarily gonna change, but there IS still one more period to play in this game. I've seen a team be down 5-0 with 5 minutes gone in the 3rd period and come all the way back to tie with like 20 seconds remaining in regulation. They won 30 seconds into OT.

I like watching non-Canadian channels - then I can believe them when they say that a Canadian athlete did something well.

The relay is about to start, let's see what happens this time. Five teams (20 skaters) on the ice - this could be interesting!

SHH! These Olympics are a double edged sword for Sharks fans - with more players than any other NHL team there. Could be a very bad thing come playoff time.

Then again, what I'm I thinking? The Sharks are well known to choke in the playoffs. But I love them regardless.

Sigh...except for the first round of the 2000 playoffs. The Blues were supposed to waltz on through to the Finals that year, but that obviously didn't happen. I was so disgusted by the play during Game 7 that I gave up and went to bed; the cruelest part was that I actually had a dream that the Blues had come back and won. I was so excited when I woke up...until I rewound the tape and saw what had actually happened. :headache:

I have had plenty of nights like that. Not a good feeling at all. I can't wait until the day when I wake up to find that it hadn't been a dream. Someday ... Someday ...

But it will never change the fact they are my team :goodvibes And that I get to say I've been there since day 1.

As Bob Costas said that is 10 gold medals for Canada, the most gold and only 2 days to go.

IMHO, Ohno had a valid point. What he did to the Canadian who fell and what the eventual Gold winner (Hamelin?) did to the Korean who fell were very similar actions with similar results. Ohno was disqualified...fair enough. But if you use that standard, I think the gold medal winner (a Canadian) should have been DQd as well. He was overtaking the Korean, whacked him under the armpit and the Korean lost his balance and fell.

Yet I don't believe the ref spent even 2 seconds considering whether Hamelin had "wronged" the Korean....Nope, the emphasis and focus was all on Ohno. Since Ohno's contact was with a Canadian and the second potential wrongdoer was a Canadian, a Canadian shouldn't have been remotely involved in deciding who should/should not be disqualified. It doesn't pass the sniff test.

Oh wow, so you were with the refs when he was reviewing the videos? You must be since you know where all the emphasis and focus was. Cool, what was your job there?

Valid complaints are brought to the attention of the judges. Whinges happen on message boards and interviews.

Your complaints lose all legitimacy when you use unsubstantiated views as facts.

Not a chance in heck that the Canadian athletes are going to catch the Americans though. American athletes are kicking serious butt at these Olympics. They've got to be nearing/passing records.

If you watch the men's 1000 meter again, you'll see a Canadian push Apolo (the very same thing he did tonight), which made him slip and lose speed. He didn't fall over, but he would have done better than bronze if that hadn't happened.

Don't think it's fair that it wasn't called.

Well, the US has 34 medals (ties most ever for US in the Winter Olympics) with at least 2 more assured (Hockey and Team Pursuit) with several other real chances. I think the most ever by a single country was 36, so the US will at least tie that this year.

Quite a feat!

Okay I know he's in the NHL too, but is anyone else really amused by Satan on the Slovakia team? Great name.

Was the 36 in a non-boycotted Olympics? If so, that is even more impressive.
