XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

Can't believe the games are almost over. What night is the figure skating champions gala? You know...the night where all the medalists cut loose and perform a total free skate?

It is on the schedule for Saturday evening. Hopefully it will air live.

I love the Gala!

Good for the Canadian Women. The IOC needs to take a chill pill. This is the same IOC that chewed out Usain Bolt for breaking the WR in the 100m in 2008 with his celebration across the finish line.

Absolutely.

I think they want a bunch of robots with no emotion, no feelings, no expression.

Again, these are athletes who will act like, well, young, exuberant people having the time of their lives.

And as for "behavior unbecoming an Olympian", I think poor sportsmanship, like that displayed by Victor Plushenko, is much, much uglier.

The gold medal game Sunday afternoon is going to be EPIC. I can't wait :cool1:

Anyone excited as I am about the last night of short track speed skating tonight?!

Apolo Ohno and teammates in the 5000m relay - or as someone called it, 45 laps of chaos. With all the exchanges and up to 20 different skaters all on that small oval, it is sure to be exciting.

Apolo also skates the 500m finals - an all-out sprint in an event where anything can, and usually does, happen.

So they are taking issue with the Canadian hockey team but none with Plushenko? :confused3 If so, that is crazy.

I just flipped to the speed skating and heard Apolo bash the Canadian ref. He also said it because they are on Canadian soil as if he was any where else he wouldn't be out....what.

Halmin did the same thing to him in another skate and he was out. Why the double standard. :confused3

Lots of wipes out.

No opinion here but right after the race, the announcers were saying that the contact was minor. The Canadian fell and if he had not fallen, the contact in and of itself wasnt enough for a disqualification. But because of the fall, he figured Apollo would be disqualified. Who knows? It is very subjective. Sometimes it goes your way, sometimes it doesnt. I guess it's just part of the sport

Yeah I hear you I just didn't like Apolo saying it that way is all , like Canadians are out to get him . :lmao: He could have just said that was the sport not bash.

At this point I think I'm getting to the point where I'd be surprised if something wasn't controversial with an outcome. I'm so tired of it already.

I have no idea about this incident though. Primetime coverage from us hasn't even started. Boo.

Totally agree. Saying that he was disqualified because it was a Canadian judge on Canadian ice, is not cool.

Was it even a Canadian judge? I know that the judge from last night (an Australian) didn't work tonight (though he was supposed to) because of death threats after he DQ'd the Koreans last night.

At least Ohno didn't go that far.

Yes it was a Canadian judge tonight. I guess I should just stay on my Canadian channel and not go to NBC. Then I wouldn't have seen him talk to the press. Back to my bubble.

He did the last time, in these games. I think that they made the right call - don't put your hand up there if you don't want to get DQd. That said, it was ticky-tacky and I don't blame him for calling them on it. It looks very suspicious that a Canadian official made the call, and that the call benefited the Canadian racer. IMO, they should never have that kind of conflict of interest. Makes a subjective call stink to high heaven...
