My DS wants to see Tulum on our next DCL trip - DD votes for Xcaret. I see that the Disney Excursions are one or the other. If you "do your own thing" would it be possible to do both in one day? I assume that there is a main place to catch a Ferry across. Then I assume that there are tour people waiting there for tourists to take tourists to Tulum or Xcaret? My concerns are to be that far away from the ship should something go wrong with getting back (don't want to be left behind)? How easy/difficult is all of this to do on your own? Also any chance of unscrupulous guides that charge higher prices to get back - knowing that you have a ship to catch? I will be going without hubby so need to make sure I am making a good decision. On the flip side we could just pick one Disney Excursion and stick with it - maybe flip a coin! What do you all think? TIA!

My DH and I did Tulum on our own in January and from Cozumel it was a 6 hour day and only about 2 hours of the 6 were at Tulum - most of it is traveling time. We were on NCL so I'm not familiar with the Disney schedule but I'm assuming it would be tight trying to do both but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. We took a ferry over to Playa Del Carmen and then used the local bus system to get to Tulum - all total it cost us around $60 to do it on our own. The views from Tulum are beautiful and they also have a small sandy beach there.
