WWTBAM Unique Free Offer

Sounds like you guys had a great time. Sorry I missed you. I think I played on the 10th and the 11th..unfortunately never cracking higher then 4th on the leader board. My first trip without being in the hot seat. Such a bummer.

Rob so exciting about the real millionaire. I'm hoping one day of making it there ...I've taken the test once earlier this summer without passing and was supposed to watch a taping and do the test again next Tues. Unfortunately family Dr appointment as gotten in the way so we are unable to go....I'm going to have to reschdule....

Caught the show- Nice work, Rob?

So, inquiring minds need to know, did you use some of the winnings for a Disney trip? ;)

Why the question mark?

To answer your question, I'm sure some of the winnings have went towards Disney trips at one time or another. However, most of the money was put away for DS's and DD's college educations. If I get on any other game shows, I may be a bit less responsible with the winnings.

As a good WWTBAM player yourself, I'm sure you saw weaknesses in the game that I played. The $4,000 question was my second mistake. I knew before the choices came up what the answer was, but somehow I managed to get shaken enough after seeing the choices that I blew a lifeline anyway. Believe it or not, I sat in the seat debating not how I knew the answer, but instead what answers the producers would leave if I used the 50:50. That line of thought lead exactly to the answers that they did leave me and then you may have noticed I looked disgusted (at myself) as I quickly gave my answer.

The reason that I call that my second mistake is because my first mistake happened before I ever went to the taping. I should have practiced with my phone-a-friends. Job responsibilities at the time limited my time and I just never really practiced with them. I should have made the time. That cost me the big money.

However, I had a great time. I do wish that I had went to WWTBAM-PI! before taping for a practice run. That would have greatly increased my confidence level.

By the way, I believe you are in the New York area so have you ever considered trying out for the show?

I'm blaming the NyQuil for that one, picked up a nasty cold over the weekend and was dashing off a quick reply. I didn't even notice that and I know I proofed it. My brain is quite out of order today, apologies.

I guessed that you guys treated yourself to at least a trip, although I suspected that with kids, it was mostly college fund.

That one I caught right away...I was surprised that you used a lifeline on that, but at least you pulled out of it. I can imagine it's pretty nerve-wracking up there, though. I figured by the look on your face that you were not terribly happy with the choice.

Your poor friend must have been kicking himself. eesh. I'd worry about what my friends would do in that kind of situation- they're very bright, but that's incredible pressure.

Not yet, actually. I didn't start watching the show until after the first time we played it at MGM- I'd seen it around, but never really thought about it. I may very well take a shot at it, though. My sister has been saying for years that I should. I have tried out for Jeopardy, though I haven't cracked that yet, either. I actually did pass the test for College Jeopardy, but became ineligible before the taping since I had to leave school mid-semester due to some family emergency stuff.

And to answer your previous question, yes, I was the third draft pick for the fastest finger rounds, so I owe you a thanks for paving the way. I'm guessing you finished on the board that game?

No problem. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, actually it was the 2 questions prior to this one that had rattled me. At the time I taped, I had never seen "The Matrix". I had seen previews and thought I knew the answer, but I was awful nervous pulling the trigger on that one, especially since if I had been wrong I would have left with nothing.

The next question wasn't much better. Was it a food question or a vocabulary question? I knew the word "truss" meant tie, but was it really that in a food context? Again, I went for it, but these two led right into the one where I finally succumbed to using a lifeline. I think I had decided my luck might run out soon by that point.

That probably all sounds pretty strange, but when you are sitting in the Hot Seat crazy things go through your mind.

Yes, I hear he was really upset with himself for awhile. I told him that he had no reason to be upset. The question was a bad one for a phone a friend to begin with as long as it was. And, it isn't like he gave me a wrong answer. That would have been much worse.

Actually no. If I remember correctly, I missed both your Hannukkah question and the James Bond question. I knew that "For Your Eyes Only" and "A View To a Kill" were Ian Fleming novels. I also knew that Goldeneye was the name of Ian Fleming's ranch or estate. However, I should have realized that "License to Kill" was also not a book title. That is the question you missed, right? One of the people that I was with guessed correctly on that one and ended up in the Hot Seat right after you. Unless I'm getting my shows confused. We did go to many shows over the weekend. I had to turn down the Hot Seat once on Saturday and once on Sunday. I was also 1st at the end of at least 2 shows.

I thought overall the questions were a bit tougher this time around. I've heard that they have new question writers, which may explain things a bit. That's okay, just gives me incentive to study that much harder for next time.

If I'd been in your shoes, given the exact same question set, I would have been confident on all the answers and probably would have kept playing, ie, I knew the answers to all your questions and would still have had lifelines remaining. But it's really easy to play back seat driver when you're on your comfy couch at home...

We'll see how I do. I bit the bullet and signed up for an audition. I go in on the 12th of October, so if you've got any advice, I'd appreciate it greatly.

I figured why not, it's a short train ride from my office anyway and I've got nothing to lose but half a day of work to find out if I can do this or not. :)

As much as I'd be honored to be someone's phone friend on the show, I think I'd be really upset too if I couldn't help. But then again, there's no shame in not knowing something that the player doesn't know, as obviously it's a difficult question or the phone player wouldn't be involved at all.

If I do make it, I'm going to really need to give a lot of thought to the people I choose. I have one person I know is absolutely solid and won't crack, but their knowledge set is a bit specialized- the rest are kind of a toss up. But, I'll cross that bridge when I get closer to it.

Unfortunately, yes it was. My line of reasoning was that the older films were probably based on actual books, so I narrowed it down to Goldeneye and License to Kill just on that. I was leaning strongly towards Goldeneye on a hunch, which was confirmed by my helpful stranger, but was of course, wrong.

I'm also embarrassed that I had to blow the 50/50 on the Hannukah question, although I feel somewhat better that my DH didn't know that one either.

I also agree with you that the questions seemed harder this time. Ironically, I got bounced out on another James Bond question earlier in the weekend. I wasn't really in any danger of getting in the hot seat, but at least wanted to finish in the top ten, and got it wrong and was knocked off the board completely. James Bond is obviously my nemesis.

Perhaps I should start watching some Bond movies just in case he follows me to the audition? In all seriousness though, I'm not very well-rounded in television and movies so I should probably try to study up a bit in those areas. I realized that something as silly as reading my husband's Entertainment Weekly would have helped out quite a bit with the answers to some of the questions that came up.

Slightly Goofy,

I'll let OzyMoe tell whatever she wants about her game playing.

Hi everyone,

Whoo...it's been a long week, but I'm finally back up to speed. I met up with Rob, his lovely wife, Debbie, their friend Matt who had some other WWTBAM lovers with him for a mini-meet for the last two shows on Friday night. I just missed seeing Rob in the hot seat, which was a disappointment, but it was still nice to meet up.

A number of us returned Saturday morning. Matt made it in during the morning and so did I. Sigh...I had a dismal round though and was ousted on either the 4,000 or 8,000 point question. I have never seen "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", so on the 1,000 point question I used up my "ask the audience".

In the antimated film, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," Benny is a:

a) taxi cab
b) tug boat
c) helicopter
d) airplane

The second question that stumped me was:

The letter E, appearing on a video game stands for:

a) Educational
b) Easy
c) Everyone
d) Entertainment

I don't play videogames and have had no occasion to buy any these last five years. I used my "phone a complete stranger" and she said, Educational...which I had already half decided in my own mind was right (I was wavering between Educational and Easy lol)...needless to say I was wrong and went down with my 50/50 still unused.

...sigh...next time! *grin*

Debbie also got in the hot seat that day and did way better than I. Our group met some other WWTBAM fans, although I missed you, ladysoleil...did you get in the hot seat on Friday or Saturday?

I must say, meeting up with Rob, Debbie, Matt and his friends was lots of fun!

I believe it was Sunday, though now I completely don't remember because I'm brainfried. We made an unscheduled second trip back to MGM after we decided to skip MK and I believe that was the day.

It was definitely Sunday. When you missed, the mother of one of our friends got in the Hot Seat. She was the one who missed at 32K on the question about how many pairs of chromosomes a human DNA cell has.

Hi ya Ozy!! While I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who either freezes up or gets tripped up on what some people (mostly kids too young to know that the Battle of Hastings was fought in 1066) :rotfl2: might consider 'easy' questions. The ones that I fear the most are the ones about the Boy Bands.

I am mostly back to my normal self now. Getting stronger each day but still weak as can be. Figure they will come out with a great package and I will be too darned weak to go. grrrrrr

ladysoleil, I sincerely doubt that I could give you any advice that you do not already know but I am very good at tests so here goes. If you can eliminate one or more answers as being 'wrong' you will greatly increase your odds of making an educated guess at the right answer. Do they still have the "no time limit' on the tv show? If so, take your time but do not overthink. I have seen many very intelligent people miss questions just because they are so smart that they think several layers above and beyond what a 'normal' person might and get the answer wrong. Luckily I am NOT that smart. LOL Do not be afraid to use your lifelines if you need to as you will not get to the Million if you miss at 16,000. Have confidence in yourself and if you have a pretty good idea that you are right, go with your gut. Good luck and please let us know when your show will be televised as I want to root you on!! :cheer2:

Rob, I just remembered that you are a Hoosier as well. Next time I go would you please lend me your brain. I promise I will return it only slightly used and a bit more goofy.

The test generally uses questions straight from the show. There is generally a low pass rate, but usually a bit higher than the Jeopardy! audition test.

As hard as the test can be for some, the audition itself is harder. At the risk of sounding sexist, women have a decided advantage over men. The reason is purely in the numbers. Not as many women audition as men. However, that doesn't mean if you are a woman you will be selected on the first attempt. Most of the women that I know who have tried to get on the show have accomplished that goal, but many of them passed the audition test numerous times before being chosen.

ladysoleil, expect a private message from me either this evening or later in the weekend. Things have been too crazy at work today for me to put my thoughts together cohesively.

Yes, I'm a Hoosier. If you watched me on Game Show Network on Tuesday night, then you know more specifically where I am located. Not sure that you would want my brain, but I'd be happy to share some strategy tips. Hopefully you will put them to better use than I did on this last attempt. You would think someone who has won the grand prize would have had his act together better than I did this time around, but I think there was just too much going on in my life to focus properly.

Hi there Rob

I am sorry I missed seeing you. Too much going on and I forgot to tape it. I hate it when I do stuff like that.

I am very confident in being able to get into the Hot Seat but a lot of that has to do with the fact that we stay for extended periods of time and I am able to go to several of the shows until I do make it. I once left after a couple of tries cause my brain was not working. My big problem is once I get into the hot seat as, believe it or not, I am sort of shy and get nervous with the walk across that cursed see through floor, the lights, music not to mention all the wonderful people. I do not hear well either and that is a bit disorienting. OK, nuff with the excuses the honest truth is that they ask me questions to which I do not know the answer. One time I was pretty sure but took the audience's answer instead of my own (English Major) gut.

I met a family who were into the Millionaire to the hilt and their tip was that they put some family members in line for the Phone a Stranger line so they would increase their chances for an erudite answer.

I am one of those strange birds who actually enjoys the competition, win or lose. I suffer from withdrawal as my on line trivia game has been disbanded and makes my Thursday nights so sad nowadays.

Slightly Goofy/Linda

Hey Oyzmoe, Only one more day until Food and Wine fest. How are the WWTBAM shows going? Tell us what's going on!!! PLEASE!!! I have to know everything :rotfl: Only 4 more days for us and my skin feels like it wants to bust! :hyper: I would wish it to get here sooner but I still have SOOO much to do :goodvibes

I can't wait to meet you and fellow dis"ers. Until then just watch me dance.  :cheer2: :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc :jumping1: :maleficen :jumping2: :thewave: :dancer: :rockband: :drinking1
