The next question wasn't much better. Was it a food question or a vocabulary question? I knew the word "truss" meant tie, but was it really that in a food context? Again, I went for it, but these two led right into the one where I finally succumbed to using a lifeline. I think I had decided my luck might run out soon by that point.
If I'd been in your shoes, given the exact same question set, I would have been confident on all the answers and probably would have kept playing, ie, I knew the answers to all your questions and would still have had lifelines remaining. But it's really easy to play back seat driver when you're on your comfy couch at home...
We'll see how I do. I bit the bullet and signed up for an audition. I go in on the 12th of October, so if you've got any advice, I'd appreciate it greatly.
I figured why not, it's a short train ride from my office anyway and I've got nothing to lose but half a day of work to find out if I can do this or not.
Yes, I hear he was really upset with himself for awhile. I told him that he had no reason to be upset. The question was a bad one for a phone a friend to begin with as long as it was. And, it isn't like he gave me a wrong answer. That would have been much worse.
As much as I'd be honored to be someone's phone friend on the show, I think I'd be really upset too if I couldn't help. But then again, there's no shame in not knowing something that the player doesn't know, as obviously it's a difficult question or the phone player wouldn't be involved at all.
If I do make it, I'm going to really need to give a lot of thought to the people I choose. I have one person I know is absolutely solid and won't crack, but their knowledge set is a bit specialized- the rest are kind of a toss up. But, I'll cross that bridge when I get closer to it.
Actually no. If I remember correctly, I missed both your Hannukkah question and the James Bond question. I knew that "For Your Eyes Only" and "A View To a Kill" were Ian Fleming novels. I also knew that Goldeneye was the name of Ian Fleming's ranch or estate. However, I should have realized that "License to Kill" was also not a book title. That is the question you missed, right?
Unfortunately, yes it was. My line of reasoning was that the older films were probably based on actual books, so I narrowed it down to Goldeneye and License to Kill just on that. I was leaning strongly towards Goldeneye on a hunch, which was confirmed by my helpful stranger, but was of course, wrong.
I'm also embarrassed that I had to blow the 50/50 on the Hannukah question, although I feel somewhat better that my DH didn't know that one either.
I also agree with you that the questions seemed harder this time. Ironically, I got bounced out on another James Bond question earlier in the weekend. I wasn't really in any danger of getting in the hot seat, but at least wanted to finish in the top ten, and got it wrong and was knocked off the board completely. James Bond is obviously my nemesis.
Perhaps I should start watching some Bond movies just in case he follows me to the audition? In all seriousness though, I'm not very well-rounded in television and movies so I should probably try to study up a bit in those areas. I realized that something as silly as reading my husband's Entertainment Weekly would have helped out quite a bit with the answers to some of the questions that came up.
