Never been a Mel fan anyway but it is rather well known that he has anti-sematic views.

Well, at least he apologized. I'm not saying he's right....but, at least he can come out and admit he was wrong. There are a lot of celebrities who would not do that, and with Mel having at least 6 children...apologizing is something he definitely needed to do.

I didn't see the film either and I also remember the out cry of Jewish groups saying he was going to be making them out to be evil, etc, etc. I didn't believe it and was always kind of a fan of his, but no more after this. With the views his wacko father shares with the press about the Holocaust never happening and other assorted nonsense, I have to agree with perdidobay. "The nut doesn't fall far from the tree".


Alcohol has a way of getting rid of the "built in censor" that most rational people have in their minds. There's things we all like to have said at one time or another but not to this degree or with that much hatred, at least not me. There's no excusing what he said and a simple apology isn't going to cut it. He went way over the line and I can't see how he's going to recover his former image.

It is disgusting. Of course he apoligized. His career would have been over if he hadn't. A nicely drafted statement by his PR people...brilliant.

Mel did a movie screening of The Passion of The Christ at my church I attend, a couple of months before the movie came out in theaters. Regular attenders of our church were not allowed at the screening. Only a handful of church pastors and church staff were allowed to be there. Anyways, at the screening, Mel did a Q and A session about the movie. He also brought up about that he is bipolar. A friend of mine from church(who is also on staff at church) told me about this. Also, our pastor had shown a 5 min video clip at church, of part of the Q and A session with Mel,talking about the Passion of The Christ(the video clip was shown at church about the time the movie came out). Mel's hair was messy and disheveled, which I thought was a little strange .
Maybe Mel suffers from Bipolar disorder . He probably was in a manic state when he was arrested with the DUI. Probably not taking his meds I guess . Sounds like he has a lot of skeletons in his closet.
I hope he can get the help he needs. He is very gifted as a director and actor.

I also feel he put himself out there making Passion and no matter who did it, they were going to be raked over the coals... period, subject God=all kinds of crap. I think he is quite a guy for doing it, knowing the crap that people will make up about the movie, him, his family.. ect... and they did. He has had a tough time since, trying to live life without all the crap from the freaks... so much so he hasn't been out much and I am sure he isn't feeling very good from all that. JMHO

I didn't like him when he made Braveheart, a rather inaccurate film, in which he claims Wallace slept with Prince Edward's wife Isabella, implying that he not the prince was the father of her son. In fact Wallace was executed in 1305 she married the prince in 1308 and her son was born in 1312 SEVERN years after Wallace died.

That's what I thought when I read about this as well. Or perhaps his personal anti-semitism was more widely known and lead to folks looking for it in the film more closely. I also think that alcohol often removes inhibitions - so if this is the real Mel - then the real Mel is pretty ugly.

Alcoholism is a horrific disease. Mr. Gibson says he is an alcoholic. He's also a mysogenist pig. I don't know if there's a recovery group for that. He'll be needing to do some image recovery work though. What a swell guy!

I've enjoyed his acting career but they're movies, not him and not factual. He entertains me, he will never be my friend and let's HOPE the misguided voters of our country are never moved to elect him to any office.
