just got back from a 3 day quick trip to DL and normally I never go during summer...maybe at the beginning of june but definitely not at this time of year...Not only are the crowds horrendous but the heat will kill me too...so imagine my surprise, after psyching myself up for both of those things to find really neither...sunday was really hot but when the sun went down it cooled nicely...monday was breezier and when sun went down I was cool enough where I needed a lightweight jacket and yesterday was absolutely GORGEOUS the entire day and yes I had to have my jacket last night::yes:: I was in heaven...now for those of you on the east coast, with the exception of FL or something, you will think its hot but I live here in CA and that was NOT hot...so I was as happy as a clam ::yes:: but what really got me is the fact that the crowds were not what I was expecting...now before I begin this let me remind all of you that I live in CA and I have an AP and I am here alot!! so what I say may not be what someone who only comes once a year at the same time feels...any AP'rs out there who went this past few days I would like to here your thoughts::yes:: ..ok now yes it was busy dont get me wrong but Ive seen the very same crowds at any given time throughout the year on a weekend..on both sunday and monday I was able to go on ToT twice without even having to get out of the elevator...nobody in line and no it wasnt closing time...fantasyland as usual was packed but I dont know it just didnt seem horrid to me...and I cant tell you how many times we went by the all 3 of the ice cream shops at DL and DCA and there werent big lines...I had a few times where there were walk ups at Coke Corner and we only made one PS, and it was for carnation but when we got there we didnt have to wait nor was there a big line...everywhere else we ate were walkups and we got right in...except for BB which is always busy anyway...it really was a great trip...oh yeah I wanted to tell everyone that I have been wanting forever to try the cheese corn dog at The Corndog Hut in DCA and just never got around to it...so finally this time I did and if you or your kids like velveeta than this is to die for...and the size of it is the same as the corn dogs and the amount of cheese they put in it is applicable to the size of the hotdog that goes into the regular corn dog...it was really good..

also did toy story mania and it is hecka cute:thumbsup2 ...any questions? fire away:goodvibes

Hi Lynn! So was it less busy and less hot than our April trip? If so, then LUCKY LUCKY you!! Glad you got to ride TSMM. I am absolutely in love with that ride. It's Disney perfection!

hey Callie:goodvibes definitely less hot than our april trip...as far as crowds go I think Sunday and Monday were less crowded than our trip and yesterday was about as crowded as when we were there but not till later in the day...and TSMM is perfect for sure...they really have it together on that one:thumbsup2

Wow I wonder why? Sounds like it was much worse the first week of June when we were there. Guess I picked the wrong week to go, I usually think the later in the month the worse it gets, with all the kids being out of school and everything. Glad you were able to enjoy the weather and low crowds though! :)

Hi Lynn!! We were there this past weekend and even on Saturday it wasn't busy!! Okay, it wasn't empty, but I've seen it WAY busier on a Saturday. We normally go on weekends and we're used to the crowds, but we were sooo suprised! Atleast it wasn't just us thinking that!

I'm thinking it was either the heat that kept everyone away, the crazy gas prices, or everyone was in line for TSMM!!

Glad you had a great time!! :)

It could be that the crowds were worse in early June because the out of state crowds were much higher because California wasn't out of school yet.

No thats not it...JenDisneylandlver is right...only some SO Cal schools are not out of school at that time central cali and at least several nor cal schools got out first week of june...usually by now everyone is out and people are on full force vacation which is why I dont normally go at this time...I went last year at the beginning of june and it was fine...

What a nice surprise when the parks aren't as busy as expected! I hope it is that way when I am there mid-week in August!

Two years ago I went to WDW in July. I was so surprised how light the crowds were in comparison to what I imagined in my head. (I was comparing to memories of busy summers at DL years ago.)

I guess you just never know what it will really be like. I would have imagined it would have been busy with Toy Story opening at DCA. Go figure! :thumbsup2

That's great that you did'nt experience the very massive crowds like you expected!!! I would have been thrilled to be in your shoes, especially this time of year.
I too live in Cali and know that there are certain times of year that I might and I say might dread a DL visit (not real sure if it is really possible to dread a visit to DL:) ). I am so used to being able to pick and choose when I go, and of course if you can do that you pick the times that you know the park will be at it's least quite.
I have been many times in the dead of summer, which around here in my eyes I consider to be the last 2 weeks of June through the 1st week of Septmeber. I usually avoid going during any of these months; however I have been during these peak times and the crowds are usually out of control.....nothing like feeling like you've been packed in a sardine can...LOL
Even though I do not care for the very large crowds of summer time I still do them every now and then because I just have to get my fix of Disney.......KWIM????;)

Anyhow the OP post made me wonder if this trend that she experienced will continue??? I am very curious about this due to the economy. With things being the way they are I bet that this year may be a little off at DL compared to what we are used to.
This economy has taken the middle class folk and made them poor and taken those who were already experiencing poverty and forced them into the deepest pits of poverty. It is so sad to see!!!!!!!
It seems that only those that made an above average income and were rich or well off so to speak, will be the only ones with enough in the bank account to be able to still enjoy DL and other luxuries.

I am looking forward to reports of crowds at DL here on the DIS boards over the summer as I am really curious to see if the economy will take the pleasure of DL from many.

Sorry about the very long post but I was real interested when I read that at this time of year it was mild as far as crowds go. My DH and I have an ongoing debate over the economy and if it will indeed impact wether or not people decide to do fun family things such as DL or WDW.

We went last night to DCA and spent only 45 min in line for TSMM (great ride, btw) and DCA was lighter than any summer night I've been to in the last 4 summers. Soarin' was a 30 minute wait (fastpass was turned off  )

Most LA schools are on vacation and it's started cooling off (temps in high 80's) so those aren't causing low crowds. I'm guessing it's the price of gas ($4.60 here) that might be keeping a couple thousand away each day.

I am guessing it is the economy too. I can tell you now, it it weren't for a wedding and my SIL's baby shower (separate events) bringing me out to Cali... I would have canceled. While I am making ends meet so we can do this trip, I know it is a real privilege to people to do so. Something tells me I may not have a WDW any time soon after though, even though I am a not too far drive there. Would have to be one heck of a FL resident deal.

Do you think this is why they offered the summer fun pass to SoCal peeps? I didn't think they usually offered such great deals during the peak of summer.

I went last night and was surprised the crowds were not that bad!

I went again this morning around 10am and we only stayed for a couple of hours because the crowds were getting to big for me and we have AP's so i never like to come when it is hot or too crowded.

The weather was nice today and last night! we forgot sweatshirts so oh darn we had to buy new ones;)

We are now done for the summer! So we won't be going back until late August!

I also hope it's not crowded in August. We're going for a couple days (one and a half actually) mid-week before our cruise. I've been prepared not to be able to do too much due to summer crowds, but hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised. ::yes::

Not worried about heat though. After nearly 3 months of 95-100 temps (with higher humidity than CA) I think we'll be numb to any heat!!

oh goodie! We are going tomorrow for our FINAL trip with our current AP's. Anyone know if the house of the future ever opened up?
There isnt a grad night tomorrow night is there?

Well, I picked the wrong week then! I was there last week and it was packed! Way bigger crowds than I was expecting. Only Father's Day was somewhat quiet.

Fingers crossed for when we'll be there!
