WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Can someone explain how this works? I have some gold I would LOVE to sell
Thanks

Paypal lists their fees as 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction.

My breakdown was :

1.7 Dwt 10K @ 9.86= 16.76
12.5 Dwt 14K @ 13.80=172.50
Total 189.26

i just went through my old jewerly and have a bunch of stuff to give to
us gold finders my dh works in nyc so he will go in person:cool1: . they said the london price as of today is $983.25 and they pay you 96% of that amount not bad. the funny thing about it is I had some really ugly jewerly:rotfl2: oh well, more spending money on my april cruise:banana:

I hope he will go tomorrow and I will let you know what amount I get!!

also, i did ask them about 6 years ago I found this 14 k gold bracelet
with 6 diamonds/6 rubies in them. are they real :confused3 I don't know however
i figure since the bracet is 14 k gold they might be. anyway i asked them
what happens if there are stones in some of the jewerly I give them, they said the gemoligist (spelliing:sad2: ) will appriase it for my husband plus the price of gold, the bracelet weigh approx 1/2 oz I do know it will probably be less in their eyes.

I can't wait to hear how much I get!!!!

I just got my statement from gold fellow. Here's how mine broke down:

14 Karat Pennyweight (DWT)11.8 Price per DWT$13.80 Settlement $162.84

18 Karat Pennyweight (DWT)1.8 Price per DWT $17.74 Settlement $31.93

Total- $194.77
Not bad for some old broken jewelry.

I don't see on usgoldbuyers website how much they pay for smaller amounts of gold (under 5 oz.) Does anyone here know? I have a couple of old rings and earrings that I would sell, but they have stones in them. If usgoldbuyers is paying more then I'll use them.

usgoldbuyers told me that I should expect 10% less than their website chart, since I had under 3 ounces of gold.

I had gone to a local place in Chicago first and received a pretty good offer- this was the breakdown for me:
6 pennyweight (dwt) of 10k; price of 15.5 per dwt = $93
15 dwt of 18k; price of $30 per dwt = $450
30 dwt of 14k; price of $22.50 per dwt =$675
total offer was $1225 (I think he bumped it up a little to include a gem stone?)

While I thought that was a pretty good offer, I decided to try usgoldbuyers. I looked at their chart and took off 10% (since this is what they said to expect for less than 5 oz), and I still thought I should receive about $1300 from them. Indeed, they offered $1320. :)

Found out why I was paid more from goldfellow.com than other poster. I've received an email from their owner. Seems they recognized my envelope from my posts here that included the photo of what I was sending. He instructed them to pay me 10% more (or the next level up). And now they've done the same for ncmtnmom since they identified her envelope from her info.

His email says that if you include a note in your envelope stating you are a DISboards member, that you'll also receive the 10% increase.

The DIS obviously banned him for breaking the soliciting rule, so he can't post here anymore. I hope this post does NOT get me into trouble. I'm simply explaining why ncmtnmom & I were not paid the same initially & explaining how others can also receive the extra.

While I'm pleased with my experience with goldfellow.com thus far, I still find it unusual for an owner to post on a message board & to go to the trouble of finding my envelope & matching it up with my account & sending me emails & phone calls. The communication process has been very good. I don't know if its normal or if its because I was vocal about my skeptism, but I'm very pleased for it. Maybe communicating with us small customers isn't so bad after all. lol

:thumbsup2

Thank you to all of you for this great information. I just requested an envelope from US Gold Buyers too. I'll let you know how it goes. I have several chains that are broken and old items from my teenage years. Glad to clean up this stuff and save for our next Disney Trip!
Everyone keep up the posts, it is very interesting. I have about 6 grams of 10K gold so I have no ideal what I will be getting but I am going to also keep looking.

I am happy with what I received from goldfellow! I got twice what they wanted to pay locally.:woohoo: I'm a happy camper!

With 5 kids, a disney trip, and a kid graduating this year things are expensive around here!!

I am sending my gold out to USGoldBuyers- seems like they are paying the most. I'll let you all know. I have a total of 32.1 grams or 1.13 oz. Thanks to a scales I bought off of E-Bay!

Anyone know if they take gold coins too-I have an 1915 2 1/2 dollar gold coin.

That sounds like something to take to a collector and do some research on, and not sell it for the cost of the gold in it.

The Sheraton on Oxford Valley road has people there till this weekend. My neighbor took a bunch of stuff and got 1600.00 for it. They pay cash.

I think they're paying $19 dwt for 14k

I went to The exchange, next to Subway in the shopping center in front of the mall. I had two broken rope chains and two old rings. I got $271 for them, check.

They were paying $22 dwt for 14K

Close enough to each other you could try both and see who gives the better deal.

PM me if you need more infor, it was super easy

Interesting thread. Just a PSA - Don't leave your sizable stones in the gold. These can be popped out and given a value separate from the gold. Also ask to see a jeweler when visiting a jewelry store for an appraisal, not just a counter employee. Call ahead and ask if they have one on the premises. When possible (like those that live near NYC) visit the refinery directly to sell your gold your profit will be greater.

This refinery has a good name for themselves and its worth a free quote.

I sent my envelope to Goldfellow yesterday. I figure anything over $100 is good! I have no idea how much the tacky charms and thin chains I sent in weighed but I don't have the time to scope out local jewelers and this is a quick way to make some vacations money!

I am bringing my gold to work today to weigh on the postal scale. How do I convert ounces to pennyweight ( or whatever other measure ) TIA:confused3

Ok.... just weighed my stuff. 3.5 ounces of gold ( around 25% is 18K ) What do you guys think it is worth????

How do you 'pop-out' stones in your rings? Is it possible to do at home or should we ask the jeweler?

Then, Will the jewelers give them a value and possibly buy them also?

If we send then intact to the mail-away places, will they pull them out and also return them?

(sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for helping all of us!!)

Looks like my goldfellow envelope is on the truck for delivery today. I'll post how I did when I find out!

This is all so exciting! I ordered the cash4gold envelope a month ago but never did it. I'm glad, I think I will send it to the usgoldbuyer place instead. I sold 2 bracelets on ebay last month and did research after I sold them, boy could I kick myself now. I sold a bracelet for $20 that I found online afterwards for $300 and a very heavy "I Love You" Bracelet for $85 which I though was great till I see these prices. But oh well, I hated that boyfriend anyway.
Thanks OP for this thread.

It is possible to take your stones out of some settings. If the stone is small or chips it isn't worth the effort. If the stone is near impossible to get at but obviously worth your while to remove you can have a jeweler do it for you before selling the gold either elsewhere or to them. Pronged settings are easy to manipulate and gold is soft. Since you are scraping the gold, in most cases it makes no difference if you wreck the piece getting the stone(s) out. Small chain nose pliers can be helpful - don't hurt yourself. :)

Sometimes a jeweler will offer to buy the stones and if they don't desire them they wont. Again chips and small stones aren't worth the effort. Be careful if removing stones other than diamonds they break.

Another option when removing stones is to save them and have a new piece made up using them. I have done this many times over!

I cant answer if a place you use will send your stones back to you. Personally if the stone is worthwhile remove it before you send it out or have a jeweler do it for you.

Some places actually add a fee to your bottom line for stone removal.

Refining fees, assay fees, treatment charges, brokering fees, handling fees are ALL questions to ask about when you are being told you are getting back over 90% of your value.

Finally, what I'm saying here really doesn't pertain to those that have a minimal amount to sell. But thats an individual call.

If you are unsure what you have and what its worth get an appraisal from a jeweler. Tell them its for insurance purposes. In some cases this is very worthwhile.
