WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Anyone near SALEM, NH?

If anyone tries the Cash for Gold place on Rt 28 (527 S Broadway, Salem, NH) interviewed at end of the article, please let me know. I'll be driving right by there on Sunday. I would be interested in knowing what you were paid per gram or pennyweight for 14K. Thanks.

We bought our engagement ring and wedding bands there in 1996! They were really nice and brought us in the back to check out a bunch of diamonds. We also cashed in some old gold there to pay for the rings.

I do live in the city but on the SW side. Irving park is too far. thanks tho.

I just took it to a jewlery store in beverly and they said come back in an hour. I wonder what they will say... I am in dire need of some cash

I felt weird, did anyone else?

On feeling weird, yes I did. I've never done something like that before. But I figured this was old stuff, never worn, some broken, why the heck not get some cash for it. It's not doing me any good.

BCV2003, I am in SW PA as well. If you don't mind me asking where you took your loot to?

I don't have much, but something is better than nothing any day. LOL!

Its a small family run place in West Mifflin, called Kapolka's and its on Pennsylvania Avenue

I used my postal scale to weigh my stuff and I had a weight of about 4.5 oz (including some of the gemstones). When it was weighed they said it was 3.8 oz because he said the scales that jewelers use are different. I didn't really have any concern with the weight and they were going to give me the gemstones back because they didn't really add any value.

BCV Thanks so much. DH works in Pleasant Hills, so I might just send him over tomorrow after work.

Thanks again.

No problem and good luck.

I would call them first and check their hours. Something makes me think they are only open until 5 on weekends (unless you make an appointment) and they are not open on weekends.

I had to go to Harrisburg for work yesterday and I was anxious to find out how much I had so I asked my Dad to take my stuff there. He knew the people there anyways so I figured maybe I'd get a better deal if he took it. Who knows??? The plan was supposed to be that he would call me with the offer and let me decide. He called me that afternoon to tell me how much he sold it for, no choices...lol Although I had estimated on my own somewhere between 1000 and 1400 so I thought it was a decent offer anyways.

Let me know how it turns out for you.

I just called a jewelry store and they said $10 per pennyweight, which still sounds low, especially compared to that place a few pages back paying $24 per pennyweight for 14K!:headache:

I booked a gold party. I get 10% of whatever is brought in. I did sell my gold today, too. Couldn't wait for the party. :lmao: Hey, I wanted new cookware and had to have it today. What can I say? :confused3 :rotfl2: I got $597 for the items minus one charm. Turns out it wasn't real. Cheapskate boyfriend. Anyway, I'm not sure I did as well as some of you, but it's still not a bad haul for things that I had and no longer wanted.

Thanks for all the tips and information. I will have to go searching through my jewerly box to see whay I can sell.

If were to bring some jewerly in how do you know IF you aren't getting ripped off???

Call around and ask what people are buying for. A pennyweight is less weight than a gram, so make sure you know how they are weighing. I had one place tell me to shop around and come to them last with my quotes and they'd beat the highest one. Might not be a bad idea to let on that you're shopping around.

I sold a some bracelets - I think 4 or 5, one pair of earrings and one kinked snake chain - got $170.

I called 3 jewelers here, one paid $10/$12, the other paid $6/$8, and the other guy was kinda flaky - I don't think he even knew how much he was paying!

I've been calculating by pennyweight... 1 oz equals 20 pennyweight; so I think .4 = 8 dwt. I think, based on today's prices, this would be worth about $195??

I've been following this thread and doing my own research. I have a little less than 3 oz of gold -more than half is 14k; a few items are 10k; and the rest is 18k. Today, I went to 2 places: the first place offered me $1220; the second place $800 (although after he realized I knew it was worth more, he offered $1100). I decided to try usgoldbuyers.com. My husband saved an article for me from the Wall Street Journal, and this was the site used by the author. I should get a quote from them tomorrow, so I'll let you know! :)

Okay - I got my offer from usgoldbuyers.com -$1320!! :)

How do they test to figure out if its 14, 18 or 24 kt gold? Or even real for that matter. I have some pieces that I know are gold, but I can't find a marking on them anywhere to save my life.
also, on earrings - where would they be marked?

Looks like goldfellow should get my package today. I'll let you know what they offer me as soon as I know.

I just weighed my stuff on a postal scale and it was 8oz. I guess that's 160 pennyweight. Even at the lowest price per pennyweight I was quoted that'd be over $1100. I plan to take it a few places.
