WOW - I just sold my old gold........

I didn't have any specific request for them to call me and they did anyway. I think you are okay with that :)

FINALLY just got "the call" from USGOLDBUYERS
$416.00... I'll take it...

I would go ahead and send it but just expect a long delay.
They are like 3 or 4 days behind.
I sent mine last Wednesday just got the offer now.
Goldfellow seems quicker but you have to wait 3 or 4 days
to get their packet in the mail.

Suzanne :goodvibes

If you don't mind me asking, what all did you send in?

Seems like most of us have a lot of extra $$'s.

What can we come up with next. :cool1:

Trust me, I've been scrounging the house, basement and attic for "treasures" the last few days. A) I need to declutter a bit, but more importantly B) my goal is to pay for all of our summer vacation with "found" money.
I've already posted a few things to our local online classifieds and have had a good amount of interest.

Hilton Head here we come!

4Seasons: May I ask where in Hilton Head you are staying? We are looking for a nice family vacation and have looked into both Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach. We have not been to either but we are looking for a clean, reasonable, ocean /front/side/view place - not really for sure. Any advice? Thanks! Lisa In Indiana :flower3:

Okay - to anyone who sent in a package, you can relax! US Goldbuyers will accept every package that comes their way. They usually have a 24-48 hour processing time but they have been so swamped, they don't want their customers to be upset when they don't get their payouts in that time frame so they are trying to slow the flow a little. The manager I spoke to said they have been sleeping at the business for three weeks now to try to keep up and they are just really crazy. Rest assured, your packages will be handled with care.

As for me - he rechecked my order. Apparantly there was a layer of palladium in my school ring - darn that Jostens, that thing was pricey!! - and that throws the machine off when measuring purity. So, if you have a class ring, beware of this! My payout went up $150 just from that being done separately and I'm ending up with $702.44. Now my check is on it's way.

While it has been hard to get someone on the phone and get someone to return calls, the customer service has been great otherwise. I am really pleased that he took the time to recheck my order - even if he hadn't found anything but of course better that he did! He was very adamant that they pride themselves on making their customers happy and was very nice in explaining the process so I could understand it. The experience has been good overall and I would definitely recommend US GoldBuyers.

As always, it's good to know what you are talking about when dealing with stuff like this. A little homework goes a long way. Good luck to everyone. :goodvibes

Thanx for the update! I feel a little bit better! :thumbsup2

Just one thing....You said the layer of palladium threw off the machine and when he rechecked it - your payout went up. Can you explain that to me?
I sent in a Jostens class ring that I think is stamped 10k.

thanx :goodvibes

My ring was supposed to be 14K gold but in his words "Class rings are the biggest rip off ever." Instead of being 14K all the way through it had a layer of palladium between the gold and the stone - he said 50% of the ring was palladium! I guess he sees that a lot. My ring was very large and heavy (no wonder why I never wore it!!). He said that palladium is very close to gold in the eyes of the "machine" (I think there is more info about the machine on the website) but it's not as dense, so it throws off the reading of the entire lot of gold that goes in with it.

If your payout is way less than you expect, I would ask them to recheck it without the ring. I guess any ring or piece of jewelry could potentially have palladium inside it - how would we know? I think he went through every piece of mine individually after that and the purity went from 47% up to 60% pure gold and that's why the payout went up.

Hope that helps! :)

Do you have the name of the person you talked to at USGB? I sent in a class ring that was stamped 10K. I've tried to call to get a breakdown of my offer, but they haven't called me back. This was Friday that I requested it. Not sure if they can even do anything now b/c I got my offer on Friday and accepted. I wonder if I should have rec'd more. I guess it is worth a call to see if they still have my package separate.

His name was Gene and he said he was one of the managers. I'm not too sure there is anything they can do now that you've accepted your offer already but it doesn't hurt to try. Was your offer a lot lower than you thought it would be?

I don't remember asking to be called. I think they automatically call you if you give them a phone number. I know they don't do anything without talking to you first. The man who call me was very nice.
I was just glad to finally know what I was getting.
:goodvibes

What I sent was basically a bunch of junk.
It filled about an inch of a plastic sandwich bag.
A ring, a small watch, some charms, broken chains...
And I'm sure some of it was gold plated or gold fill...
So I am happy with what I got...
I Thank everyone for this thread...
I am $416 richer because of it...

I used Gold fellow and am pleased.:) I only had a small bracelet, two rings without stones and three odd earings. I mailed it out Friday afternoon (after the local pawn shop offered 130.00) and received my quote today of 200.00.

While this amount is not as high as some who have posted, there was not much there to begin with. I was a bit apprehensive about this whole thing and did not want to send too much.

It was easy. I am happy with the amount. Good transaction overall. Also, mentioned I am a disboard member.:thumbsup2 The money will be in my paypal account tomorrow. :cool1:

Thank you everyone for your posts on this thread. You helped me find 200.00!

there was a link I posted to my local paper the other day.. they was a whole article about the price of gold and selling it. The jewelry did say that most is mixed and the only pure gold would be gold bars.

Here is a little bit from it:

But customers should be forewarned -- gold may have hit $1,000 an ounce on the market, but most won't pocket that much cash.

DeConcilio said customers have handed over their used gold jewelry and expected $1,000 in return.

"People do not realize that they're not scrapping pure gold," he said. "(The price) varies up and down. We pay for whatever the karat rating is."

"I think a lot of people really don't understand the process," added Gretchen Braunschweiger, whose family has owned Braunschweiger Jewelers in Morristown for 50 years.

"The biggest thing is, the price of gold that they're hearing is for refined gold, like a gold bar. Almost everything people have in their jewelry box is some kind of alloy, only 14 parts gold."

I received my call from USGB around 8:30 last night. My payout is $582.91 for 5 bracelets and 1 thin necklace with charm. They received my items last Wed., 3/18.

I believe the gentleman's name was Gene and he was extremely kind. He asked if the payout was what I expected, and I replied that I'm satisfied. He also asked how I heard about him and I replied Disboards.

Thanks again to the OP for posting this. I'm pondering whether I want to treat myself to either an IPhone or a pair of diamond stud earrings with my found money!

Thanks for sharing. That sounds like a pretty good payout. :thumbsup2

Thanks! I didn't weigh my stuff so I have no idea what I should have gotten. I posted a picture a few pages back of all my stuff. It's probably too late now. I just wish I spoke to someone there that sounded like they knew what they were doing. Both people I talked to during the process didn't sound like they knew what they were talking about. Oh well, it's still a lot of $ for jewelry that was collecting dust so I can't complain.

I finally received my call from USGoldbuyers Monday afternoon (they rec'd it last Wed 3/19). My payout was $564.92, I was hoping for more but 2 of my items weren't gold (a heavy bracelet and a ring). I'm happy because it's money I didn't have before and it will help with my upcoming moving expenses. If I find any more stuff, I might try goldfellow instead.

I just got my quote and it was $480, I sent in some broken chains, a few charms/pendants and a couple of rings. I thought it might be a little more than it was, only because a couple of the rings were kind of heavy. But I am still beyond thrilled, it is $480 I had sitting around broken and never worn :thumbsup2 I also received the 10% extra for being a DIS member. I just wrote a note on my packing slip.

Just waiting for my check!!!!!:goodvibes

so, what website do I go to for gold fellows? Once I get there, what do I do?? Do i have to call them or something??

goldfellow dot com and click on get started. It very simple. You can have them send you a fedex envelope or you can print at home and go to fedex.

Is this only for Americans? If so, does anyone know a place in Canada? I have found some items and would love to get money for them. Thanks
